You can play with people online, pretty sure even with randos but maybe a BYOB 4 player random map night would be fun.

No idea on cross play, so might need to group by console.

Also, with my Latin American keyboard layout, I don't know where the plus key is and how to get off the ground.

But just selecting a mission made me feel like I was 11 again, so gaming goal accomplished.

Laptop keyboards aren't going to be good for that, + as in from the number key pad? That probably doesn't exist if you are on a laptop smaller than 15.6 inches, which is the magic number when a num key pad is included.

You might be able to fix the issue with the F keys with Fn, but some laptops are really lovely about that, unless they are intended for business. Business laptops tend to behave very close to a desktop.

If you are only missing Number keys you should be able to fix that cheaply though if you can spread out a little.

USB numkey $9 (Blue Tooth is $30 ish if you need that)

F keys don't seem to have a separate anything. Closest I could find was a macro pad where you assign whatever keys you want to it but it was $50, might as well just get a USB keyboard.

If you have other unused keys though AutoHotKey can be used to remap the keyboard a bit.

I usually bind to an F key and have it run a script but remapping is very simple.

So say you want to make the computer press b every time you press a the code is simple
code:
a::b
p::f2
That remapped a to b and p to f2 you will have to install AHK and will want to name the script something like
That time I went to flight school.AHK

You can get really fancy with AHK
This clicks every 5ms when you hold F9 (it's an autoclicker I named clickyF9)
code:
F9::
    While GetKeyState("F9", "P"){
        Click
        Sleep 5 ;  milliseconds
    }
return
You can also make game bots if you want to get really fancy.

I left that way from like 25-30, I just started getting back into them remembering why I liked them, which was a distraction that I could think / do other things while grinding.

Turns out they are great if you combine it with an easy to watch TV show, currently playing Octopath and watching Killjoys at the same time. Pause the show when you get to an event watch the show and move around the map when you need to level or get to the next boss. I have no idea how I'm going to play Kingdom Hearts 3 after this since PS4 requires a TV and the switch doesn't.

I guess I could throw my laptop on the table for streaming a show? JRPGs need some other activity to make the grindy bits engaging.

My solution does mean you need a Switch, but it seems like most of this thread has one.

If you haven't played Crypt of the Necrodancer, it's a really fun rhythm based roguelike with excellent music. I'm not even that big on rogue-likes, but the combination of the great music and learning the ways each of the enemies move so that you can juke around and defeat them is a blast from start to finish. The boss fight against King Conga is one of my favorite things in all of video games. It's so so so good.

I caught the super hard never intended to be won mode played at a GDQ. I was planning on picking this up because I loved Donkey Konga (and still hook the bogos up from time to time). Are there friend list leader boards? I'd love to compete with BYOB for high score!

New one is good, it's pretty much the first game with some features from the second with a nice random mode and up to 4 player. The split screen can be confusing at first (it splits based on where you are from the party so in 2 player you will be both top and bottom at different times and it happens rather naturally but sometimes you look away from the screen and the other person moves and now you are confused for a second.

Switch version had some slowdowns in 2 player when I played launch day, probably going to play some more this weekend. Been busy with Baba is You and Octopath.

I haven't played it yet, but I remember spending a few hours to consistently beat the very first knight in Demon's Souls the first boss was a giant rear end in a top hat and I ended up starting over with fire spells for my first run. Took me awhile to do that run, did a melee only run after and that took maybe 2-3 days and I had very few deaths. Being a From title I assume it's similar in once you learn the mechanics everything is balanced and fair it's just learning the move set.

MonHun in similar in that you are stuck in animations, pressing a button is a commitment. Spend some time learning how different swings also move your character. Pay attention to how you dodge learn how far that moves. For a new enemy don't just charge in spend time simply evading it. Learn how it attacks, how it "thinks". Just keep dodging / blocking until you have a plan. "this attack has an opening" eventually it becomes second nature and you just run up to them and quickly dispatch them because you know all their openings and how to punish them.

If you aren't sure you can land a blow without taking damage don't take it keep watching. If you aren't comfortable with your move set yet well take a stab at the best looking opening and try the shorter ones later.

It's funny to say you are murdering them when you store them because you are, pokecenters don't heal your pokemon they change the health information, which is apparently very complex and the pokeball can't do that (I refuse to believe in the decades that have past they couldn't integrate that into the device, they are clearly a marketing gimmick to get you to spend money even though they are free).

Pokemon is not a world that is well thought out technology wise and it's hilarious to actually think about how that technology would function as described.

Have you tried Cuphead? People like to waaaay overplay the difficulty. It's a game with a few dozen bosses and no levels before the boss. You are dropped into the boss fight have fun, you will likely need to try 10-20 times to learn the bosses move set but really it's not difficult. The run and gun stages, take them slow, you can also skip them, but this is how you get coins to buy alternate weapons.

Lapis Labyrinth has a ton of flashing lights, it looks like anime wifu garbage but really it's like playing a reverse bullet hell game that takes place inside a slot machine. You attack very fast and enemy projectiles move so slow you almost forget to dodge them (seriously like 20 seconds to cross the screen slow, and you have only 5 minutes per stage, you are most likely to take damage by dodging into a stray bullet or melee damage). It does suffer from a few too many levels per tile set since it's randomized and with the limited number of screens by the time you reach the boss you will feel like you have played this level before. You're going to have to be able to put the anime theme aside to enjoy it, like with Disagea. It's also by Nippon Ichi so it shouldn't be too much of a surprise. I really wish there was a character model available for each class that wasn't so embarrassing looking. If you like Sonic 2 Casino stage, this is basically that but an entire game.

There is a Mon Hun on Switch, It just got translated to English, I have the Japanese cartridge version, which is Double Cross, I know it was localized under a different name.

Daemon x Machina demo scratched the Monster Hunter itch, and I'm really not sure why but maybe check it out. It doesn't really play like it, but hey free demo of a game coming out later this year only thing to lose is time!

Speaking of demons the Switch has tons of them! Download some and try the games out. Kirby, Yoshi, Dragon Quest Builder, all have demos. Not all demos let you carry progress over though so once you know you want the game head to the eShop and buy the full game. You can usually just google Dragon Quest Builder Demo progress full game and you will get someone else asking if it carries over along with the correct answer (DQ:B does not carry over, the demo runs on pre-release version of the game)

Coming Soon:

Cadence of Hyrule: Crypt of the NecroDancer Featuring the Legend of Zelda looks fantastic, it's listed as June 2019 and everything else has a date on Nintendo's site. Nintendo loves to do "and you can play it right now" at E3 to announce that they timed the game launch to the E3 conference, this is very likely going to be one of them.

Mario Maker 2 is listed as June 28th and Dragon Quest Builders 2 as July 12 both being another installment to a really chill game.

Where did this week go?

Someone told me to grab auto chess for my phone, it's a seriously 1 more game type of game with 20 minute long games.

It apparently started as a dota 2 mod and they are migrating to mobile and Epic store for PC for a bigger cut I assume.

Theres a lot of strategy to the game, I blew through the first few games by focusing on race and class synergy but whatever my current match making ranking is I am getting murdered. I had a good game and believe I figured out my short comings instead of going for a race or class you go a bit of everything and the first good unit you get you play everything that boosts them and start selling off stuff that doesn't while buying more stuff that does.

I'm sure there is more than that, 6 beast 4 glacial is hilarious though with all that attack speed.

If anyone else is currently addicted to this there's apparently a team mode that is pre made groups only bo idea what the team size is, I'm not even sure it's popular I think 8 player free for all is the primary mode.

Elite dangerous was on sale this weekend and I got it on a whim in case it was fun and then I spent 18 hours playing it. Turns out it's fun to be a space trucker

I like X4: Foundations more for a space trucker game.

Elite Dangerous is the superior dog fighter game. Just let me build massive space station complexes around the universe and run my space empire, then start mass producing warships and even capitols then start producing space weed in a secure pocket of space and hire runners to sell it for me so they take on all the risk to help fund my war effort.

Last time I put serious time into X4 was around launch were the game sort of fizzled around build an army of ships because there wasn't much to do, and all ship yards were NPC owned and got jammed up. (You can now own private shipyards, they have added a ton of content, there may still be a lack of things to do with your army after you construct, train, and hire everyone but that's still a good 200 hours of gameplace X3 was known for having 2,000 hours of play). The first expansion is expected to significantly expand the universe, the game is also mod friendly so mods could very easily do that too.

Elite is much much better at combat unless you want to feel more like a general commanding armies and sending them to various sectors, you can join the fights yourself but you are only risking a Game Over due to the scale of the battles you aren't going to add much. Well that's been true in X3, X4 doesn't usually see battle that large yet it needs a better neutral buffer between friendly and hostile forces to allow for larger army building. It doesn't fall apart until the 100-200 hour mark though and once you know what you are doing you can get back there all the quicker or use one of the better starts you unlocked for the next major patch if you want to start fresh.

If you can afford a joystick + throttle + peddles both Elite and X4 are so much more immersive with them. Having to use every limb to move the a spaceship in combat is the only non-VR experience were I've gotten a little lost and been really sucked into the game and gotten a slight hint of feeling like I'm moving. With Elite you can even add VR if you want to go all out, I don't think X4 plans on supporting VR for another few years.

Also why did everyone buy a Switch over the weekend? I know 3 people that have told me they bought one last weekend now. What prompted this? I've been telling all of them to get one since launch when I fell in love with the feel of the console and OS. It's fun to just hold and go through menus on that thing. The game library is important for value but if I had to pick one console UI I'd have to use forever and everything else would be ported to and hardware upgraded, it'd be the Switch. It's nearly perfect (could use folders still, but I don't find the auto sort that bad if something isn't on the main menu I likely don't plan on playing it, or just played a bunch of demos and should just delete them). I'm sure it's an actual problem for people that share the console with multiple people, but at that point just buy carts so it's easy to pop it in and it's the first menu item.
