The First Session Or, the One In Which We Found a Puppy Lia the Thief, Melia the They found the house itself stripped bare, save for detritus and gore. Seeking further, Varakyn and Doro headed down to the basement, but the old staircase collapsed beneath them. Harold and Lia quickly made their way down on a rope. Moments later, they were set upon by rats of unusual size! Fortunately, the group made quick work of the rodents. The cellar was scorched and bloodstained like the rooms above, but Lia found four intact casks of the wayhouse's famous sour ale, a net trap, and two flasks of oil. Meanwhile, alerted by its mournful keening, Varakyn found a dog behind a rubble blocked doorway. With the help of Doro, she managed to earn its trust, and named it Freki. Their new canine companion proved useful immediately, alerting them to a secret room where the proprietor, Ronwald, had secreted some arms and armor, and a chest full of silver. Tired from the journey to the wayhouse, and worn from worry over what they had found, the companions chose to tap one of the casks, and then rest within the hidden chamber, intent on renewing their investigation once they had recovered their strength. Loot: Three casks of sour ale(2D Silver Each), two flasks of oil, a sword, a helmet, a shield, a crossbow, a chest of silver(2 Pack Slots Worth) MVP: Varakyn Teamworker: Doro

I have a few suggestions/notes: On the Action Economy of the Game - Torchbearer uses the Mouse Guard/Burning Wheel model, which means you need to spend money to make money, essentially. If you are saving fate points or persona points or you are not using your traits/beliefs/instinct then you need to get with the program! There were some failed rolls and stuff last night, and part of the problem may be that the difficulty levels for tests and the like are keyed to people knowing how to get best advantage. On Traits - Remember these exist, and remember they can give you a bonus if you like! If you are not using it it is not getting used, and if it isn't getting used you are not going to be able to do a lot of stuff. On Checks - You should be taking these. You can't do anything in camp or in town, including recover from injury or other conditions, unless you have some checks in the bank. You do this by using a belief to assess yourself a penalty on the dice; in exchange you get a CHECK and that means you get to do something in the camp/town phase. You need these. On Helping - You get, generally speaking, one roll per game turn unless you are in a conflict. One roll. So players who are not making that roll should maybe think of ways to aid the player doing the thing. On Fate and Persona Points - You need to spend these to level up. You get more every session for decent RP and suchlike. Spend them!

END OF SESSION TWO Earning Fate Points There are three ways to earn fate points. Each player can earn up to three fate points in one session. Acting on Your Belief - If you take action in service of your character’s Belief during the session, you earn one fate point. You may get this award once per session. Working Toward a Goal - If you work toward accomplishing your Goal (but don’t accomplish it), you earn a fate point. You may get this award once per session. Benefiting from an Instinct - If your Instinct grants you a roll and the outcome of that roll benefits your party, you earn one fate point. You may get this award once per session. Earning Persona Points There are five ways to earn persona points. You may earn up to four persona points in one session. Playing Against a Belief This is a difficult one. It’s hard to quantify, but if you play against your Belief in a dramatic fashion—if you make a decision in the game that’s counter to what you believe—and you let everyone know about your inner struggle through your performance of your character, you earn a persona point. You cannot earn this reward and the Acting on Your Belief award in the same session. It’s one or the other. Accomplishing a Goal If you accomplished your Goal during the session, you earn a persona point. MVP MVP stands for “most valuable player.” The MVP award goes to the player who made the crucial roll so the party could face down the big problem besetting it in the session. The group as a whole decides who gets the persona point for being the MVP. Only one player can be the MVP. Teamworker The player who worked the hardest to keep the group together and in good shape earns a persona point for the effort. This award goes to the ones who help despite the risks, who spend all of their gear for their mates and sacrifice their goals for their companions. The group decides who gets this reward and only one player per session can receive it. You cannot earn MVP and Teamworker. Embodiment If you roleplay in a believable and entertaining manner throughout the entire session—if you use an accent, describe all your actions in vivid detail or bring your Belief, Goal, Instinct and alignment into play in a new and entertaining way—you earn a persona point. The group decides who’s worthy of this reward. It can be awarded to more than one player, but it cannot be awarded to everyone. If no one really captured their character during this session, don’t give out this award for this session.

Recap After everyone rested and relaxed at the campsite - topped off by another cask of ale to ward off thirst -we continued on our search for the cause of all this destruction. Lia and Harlod became cross with each other - a recurring theme. We ran into branching path after branching path, and there were a few obstructions - at one point, Lia and Ulfilas went to scout ahead, and by some misadventure managed to fall through a trap. This summoned a band of Kobolds, but we easily drove them off and continued on our way. A treacherous slope got in the way of us as well, but with some help from Lia and a stout rope, we were able to traverse it. After finding a room full of the loot from the inn - smashed tables, broken crockery, and etc. - we started preparing to lay an ambush for the Kobolods. However, this was interrupted when the Dog - the Dog's name is up for debate, still - found his old master, in the form of a little girl named Elsa, hidden among the rubbish. She told us that the Kobolds meant to cook and eat her father - the innkeeper - and that we had to hurry to save him. I tried, and failed, to get the dog to track his scent, but we still stumbled into a grisly scene - A man tied to a butcher's block, his foot severed, as he was tortured by over a dozen kobolds made up in some strange mockery of a human court. What happened next... --- I didn't miss anything, did I? I forgot to turn on logging so I was going from memory. -- Belief No Goal Yes Instinct No 1 Fate Point Earned Against a Belief No Accomplishing a Goal No --- Votes - Lia for MVP, Ulfilas for Teamworker - Emobdiment votes: I'd probably say Ulfilas and Harold, at least!
