Seven episodes in, and I'm sad at what a wet poo poo this series makes Gotham look like in comparison.

bobkatt013 posted:They will most likely go with the junkie part or something similar as it is part of one of Daredevil best and most famous storylines. Yeah, Born Again is largely an good story with some lovely Frank Millerisms and hey, maybe a Captain America cameo. I do think it's better 3rd season material instead of 2nd, though.

I look forward to learning that Kimmy Schimdt is also in the shared Marvel Netflix universe.

While on the topic of the costume, did anyone else feel like there was a bit of a tonal shift the moment it shows up? I mean, for nearly the entire 13 series run, Daredevil had a pretty unique voice and style, but the moment that suit shows up, the whole thing feels like a generic '00s superhero movie, complete with a bland fight (and weird, toy commercial-esque close ups of his weapon). It's not enough to even knock the episode down a half point, and it's certainly not the worst part of the series ("I don't think can fall in love you"), but it was a bit jarring. Still, Daredevil owns. I'm working my way through a second viewing and I really hope we get AKA Jessica Jones before the end of the year is out.

Full Series Spoilers Finished the show this afternoon, and I loved it. I really like the character of Jessica Jones, and that she has my favorite street level powerset (largely "naked" super strength) made the series a lot of fun. To get the Daredevil comparison out of the way, I think the former show was largely more focused and solid until that terrible ending, and Jessica Jones has its issues sprinkled throughout. They're both good though, and I cannot wait for the Defenders. Kilgrave was an amazing villain. His justification for being a lovely rapist was the perfect kind of "do you really not see why it isn't okay to make this other people's problem?" selfishness. He was a completely terrifying garbage dick. Luke Cage was awesome. I'm hoping he still gets his own series with Iron Fist. I think my favorite moment in the entire season was when he told Kilgrave he and Jessica were lovers, and you can just see the jealous impotence in his eyes. I hate the Nuke subplot. I was all the way on board with Will Simpson being a guy who screws things up with good intentions and bad judgement, but the attempt to bolt on the super soldier history failed. Him shooting the detective and literally burning down their victory was the low point of the series. My only other complaint is the part where the weird sister rallies the support group and they free Kilgrave. Stop letting your villain get caught if you're going to rely on really dumb poo poo to set him free, writers! I think I'm going to go and rewatch this and Daredevil, episode for episode all next week.

As much as I dislike the cameo cavalcade that is Alias, (comic spoilers)If they had actually had Kilgrave pretend to kill Rudd's Scott Lang via ant death, it would have been so amazing.

Xealot posted:From a feminist perspective, Kilgrave is such a perfect antagonist, too...it's shockingly efficient. He's a rapist, a domestic abuser, he infantilizes Jessica in a gilded cage version of her childhood home, he embodies the objectifying male gaze by surveilling her with cameras at every turn. They even have Nice Guy male entitlement when he explains his fuckery as a romantic gesture. Which is why it's so satisfying when he's visibly deflated when he meets the person Jessica chose to be with. It's such a perfect moment in this show.

I think that 13 episodes might be a bit much for The Punisher, but if I were Netflix, I'd be gearing up for a 4 episode miniseries for the character. Maybe even for Elektra too.
