God drat, that Joanna scene They said the driver was probably going to live, I wonder if he's gone as well or if he'll link up with Tyrell somehow. The way everything was put together was great too, from the song choice to the lighting & camera movement to the murder/suicide fakeout. Holy crap.
When he got shot the first thing out of my mouth was "awww gently caress come on, I love that actor, don't kill him!" and then Joanna got shot and I was like "ugh it probably just grazed her head." and then the driver shot back and I was all "yaaaay he's gonna live!" and then it cuts to Joanna's skull and I'm like "hahaha gently caress her I'm so glad the driver's gonna survive and chill with Mr. Robot and Tyrell again."

Yeah the music of this episode and the way it builds up and cuts out is so loving good.

Joanna's death was a good scene but obviously done because her character has outlived her usefulness rather than for any plot reason lol

otherwise, an awesome episode! IT'S BEEN

I actually thought Joanna was going to be around a while because of the implications of her being from super rich Swiss Illuminati and possibly trying to breed the Antichrist/Jesus but I guess Esmail dropped that a long time ago

As soon as Tyrell said he loved Elliot at the end of Season 2 I wondered if they would take an interesting route with how he would deal with his wife and child.
Turns out they're taking no route at all!

Yeah it's a shame, I thought she was an interesting character. I guess we'll have to see if her death is in anyway meaningful for the show or if it was just to get rid of her.

How do I get in on this free stuff?

Also did Angela ever meet maleWong or only femaleWong? Because I only remember her meeting femaleWong and if thatís the case then I think maleWong just confirmed that your stupid theories about them being two people are stupid since he said he met her and stared into her big beautiful eyes.

She only met WhiteRose, once. That being said, Wong could easily be lying about meeting Angela... but that doesn't matter because yes, the theory about them being two people is real dumb.

Because obviously they are the same person except the female counterpart is first in the timeline and the male counterpart is from the future.

There was some really lame stuff in this premiere. That narrated walk along the sidewalk felt just so clumsy, it definitely feels like the writing is going downhill.

God drat, Eliot is a crazy person and a lot of poo poo is happening in his head. How is it clumsier than any one of the dozens of monologues he's shared with the viewer (as his invisible friend) already?

SulphagneSocialist posted:

Seriously Esmail needs to do his legwork on it if this is really going to be a story where the solution is hitting a big science fictiony reset button and, I don't know, the big twist is that they create our timeline instead, because that's seriously trite. I keep thinking back to how this started as a movie script and I could imagine that being the end of the movie.

Or maybe a good way to deal with people like Angela is to plant a seed in their mind that for some reason or another, they find believable, in order to get them to go along with your plans.

I mean, Angela was pretty hosed up from what happened when she was a kid, and she bonded with Eliot over it. It's shaped a lot of who she is and if you give someone like her the thought that all the evil could just be undone like it never happened- that's really enticing.

Part of the reason I enjoy this show is that I have no idea where it's going. Still, I doubt the conclusion is going to be a "big sci-fi reset button."

Another big hint dropped about shifting realities during the first therapy scene. Krysta had no idea about Elliot getting pushed out of the window as a kid, even though he was convinced he had already told her. So are they now in a timeline where that initial conversation never took place?

It's gonna be so disappointing when it turns out Esmail's been playing us with this alternate reality crap the whole time. I can just hear Elliot in voiceover saying: "Wait, is that what you thought was going on? Really?"

Not to mention forgetting whether or not you told someone something that you've talked to a lot wouldn't be out of place for someone that isn't mentally ill.

Yes, but not everything that happens can necessarily be put down to Elliot being crazy. There's enough peculiarity happening when he isn't around to lend credence to elaborate More Going On theories.

But at this point it's ambiguous enough that it could still just be a total mislead, that's what makes it fun.

Of all the horrible theories put forward by the Mr. Robot reddit, this one always struck me as the stupidest. Yes, Whiterose and Zhang being split into two people by timelines or whatever is so much more believable than her being a trans woman. Especially by a show as tightly-buttoned and heteronormative as this.

True, and sorry for my tone. I think this points more to Elliot working through his issues with his dad. Mr. Robot taking the shape of his dad, Elliot re-enacting his dad pushing him through a window - eg. the pier scene in s1 - Elliot seeking revenge on behalf of his dad, all of this points to an abusive relationship between Elliot and his father. The signifying incident being the day Elliot's dad pushed him through the window. To me, what was notable about that scene was how Elliot viewed that day as a normal (even happy) day. That doesn't indicate alternate realities to me, it indicates severe childhood trauma.

I kinda took that scene as he was confusing her with the audience. He doesnít talk to many people in his life, let alone discuss his childhood. Heís using his imaginary friend (the viewer) as his therapist, so when heís confused because he thinks heís told her the story before, itís because heís already been through it with his ďfriendĒ. Iím probably way off but I didnít think into it that much because Iím not sure I want to see time travel and alternate dimensions in a fairly realistic show like this one. Elliotís mind games are plenty. No need to go completely off the rails.

She says at some point that she was only willing if Elliot talked to her more and stopped lying. That sounds like something a mental health professional with a fair amount of dedication and care for her patients might do. Sets boundaries, opens Elliot up out of guilt, and keeps him from going untreated.

I've had literally the exact same thing happened with my counsellor and I'm pretty sure I've not switched to an alternative reality. Some things are just such integral parts of your past that you assume you've brought it up at some point.
