And here I thought the republican primary would be the biggest train wreck of the season... Did I already say that?

Anyway. This is unraveling at least 6 months sooner than I expected. I guess DS accelerated it.

Former employees are always temping to listen to because presumably they have the "inside-track" but really most former employees I've met are just shitbags mumbling about how they got screwed over. Does it mean they can't be right? No. But they're incredibly suspect as the only link to the truth. I mean if unanonymous reports from people higher up on the food chain who weren't fired came out corroborating this kind of thing I would accept that.

Maybe that's because you just talk to shitbags? Most of the people who just left jobs that I talk to can't stop talking about how great their new job is...

CEOs, and other powerful/high profile people, do that all the time but they usually use surrogates. CR not using a surrogate is an example of incompetence.

Wait. Citizencon is 9 days long? WTF are they going to do for 9 days? What, is it an hour a day? Real conventions for real things and even entire industries, like, say, gaming, don't last that long.

Roflan
Nov 25, 2007

Oh, ok. I still think it's ridiculous to have a convention about one game that that is years from release and has no previous fanbase... I expect it'll have a lot in common with that infamous tumblr-con-- the one where they passed around the hat asking for donations to pay for the hotel convention hall.

I would love to effort post about the psychology of suicide but probably shouldn't. All I'll say is that if someone is in the position where they might commit suicide over the failure of a game then they were suicidal before their attachment to the game and were using it as a means to ignore the true source of their pain.

Therefore: The failure of this game won't make anyone commit suicide. But some suicidal people might be obsessed with this game.

Roflan

Don't you have to buy a game on Steam to review it? Not that I would put it past SC faithful to give 10$ to their worst enemy as a way of telling him off since they think revenge donating is a good idea. But, really?

What ongoing service does CIG provide for which you would need to agree to a new TOS? If you payed for something in 2013 and they updated their TOS in 2015 but you've never thought about SC since, why should you care about the new TOS?

I tried playing Elite Dangerous once on a friends account. I gave up when the landing and docking tutorial didn't work and docking seemed impossible. Game is too try hard for my taste and has too many bugs.

I bought it during the summer sale when it was 45$ and was so insulted by the combination of obtuseness of controls plus lack-- youtube tutorials that I immediately returned it. Seriously, no tutorials would have been better. I did, however, rebuy it after the price drop and when it was on sale for 25$ and gave it an earnest go and it's actually not that bad once you get used to it. It certainly isn't buggy. But I think the lack of a real introduction/tutorial system is definitely hurting them sales-wise and they should think better of it...

Why is the main thing they're showing off an FPS-- a genre that is over-saturated and over-represented when what everyone supposedly wants out of SC is a space game in a genre that until SC generated a ton of hype only had EVE and a game whose main villain force was called cocks?

Roflan
Nov 25, 2007

I know the answer is that it's much easier to make an FPS than a space sim. It still seems ridiculous how easily the faithful are willing to accept what is certain to be a third rate FPS in a space sims' place while they wait.

That is, if it were to ever come out. Which, of course, it won't.

Banks have the position that 'the credit must flow' so they are strangely consumer friendly when dealing with customer/vendor disputes. Because they don't want CCs to get the reputation of being hard to use. At least that was the initial thinking. I'm not sure if that's what's still driving it.

I've seen that one work before.
