Final Hint: While I don't think I've met this goon, I'm almost positive I've seen him at various events over the years - potentially Hunahpu Day or FOBAB or something. He appears to be well traveled for beer events.

I hope it's a bottle of Pliny and it totally goes 100% bad and undrinkable in the next week! LOLOLOL.

Also: that wax job on the Umatilla is hilarious. I half expect there to be a wick coming out of it.

Yeah, the wax jobs on the bourbon barrel aged Umatilla are a little odd, I'm thinking this is the first barrel aged release the brew hub has done and they might get better at the wax stuff. They didn't do alternate labels for barrel aged, just the silver wax.

Also, the wrapped bottle isn't an IPA, or a young beer at all, so another week or so won't hurt it.

A bomb-proof box from Wisconsin, courtesy of Wet Tie Affair showed up today!

The kitties were also impressed by the packing job...

I sent a box to him in a previous BIF, and he must have liked it, because this is the haul he sent to me this round:

From left to right:

Revolution "Fistmas"
What's a Christmas box without a Christmas beer?

Homebrew "Black IPA"
Homebrews are the best beer box bonus.

Surly "Abrasive"

Central Waters "Bourbon Barrel Stout" (2014 and 2015)
I love verticals, I always try to include one in the BIF boxes I send out. These two plus the Seventeen will help myself, friends and family stay quite merry for Christmas.

August Schell "Dawn of Aurora"
A "starkbier" Berliner Weisse that was aged in an almost century old cypress lagering tank. Sounds tasty!

Central Waters "Seventeen"
This was the gift-wrapped beer. I was going to wait until Christmas to open it, but Wet Tie Affair's thoughtful note spoiled the surprise of what was inside :) It's a blend of barrel-aged stouts released at the brewery for their 17th anniversary.

O'so "Wheat You Talkin' 'Bout Willis?" (Brandy Barrel)
A brandy barrel aged wheat-wine? Sign me the gently caress up!!!

Toppling Goliath "Pompeii"
I've never tried anything from TG, but i've heard nothing but good things. A Mosaic IPA (my favorite hop) seems like a good place to start!

New Glarus "Scream"
New Glarus "Berliner Weisse"
New Glarus "Milk Stout"

It wouldn't be a Wisconsin box without New Glarus beer! I haven't tried any of these, and it sounds like these are some of their most solid offerings. My first taste of New Glarus was less than glamorous (but still good!) and I've had a few bottles from them make there way to me and I've loved all of them.

Thanks for the great box, Wet Tie Affair! Cheers!

Here are Hatful's notes on the beers:

The Dock Street beer was aged in a red wine barrels with Wu Tang Clan playing on a loop non stop

I haven't even had the Burley Oak Lord pHunk yet because cryme told me it probably needed a little time after he opened one of his. I hope it's decent.

The De Garde bottle is from the anniversary party earlier this year. It's very very good.

Tired Hands Freedom From the Known is the closest thing to the Emptiness series they've done since opening the Fermentaria. It's excellent.

Silva Stout was included because I was freaking out about what I was going to send and I happened to have a bottle sitting nearby where I was packing and you didn't have it checked in on untappd. Totally random.

Ourison is SaisonHands aged in oak foeders. Sort of like HandFarm lite. I haven't even opened one of my bottles yet but I've heard good things.

Troegs Impending Descent is one of their better beers and should really be a seasonal rather than a scratch beer at this point (so I can buy it without driving out to the brewery). It's a really great rich roasty stout.

Telemachus was like the only F&M bottle you hadn't checked in outside of a few of the older releases that I only have single bottles of. I haven't opened one in a while but it was a really nice orange-y honey-forward golden barleywine earlier this year.

Conshohocken Day Without A Dawn is either a Black IPA or a Hoppy Stout. Whatever it is, I like it. Also : cool can.

The 3 homebrews are:
Brett Cardigan - 2014 - My first attempt at a cider is a 100% brett fermented cider with cherries. Earl Gray tea was used to add tannins and it was aged for a month on a heap of sour cherries. The resulting cider was like cherry pie filling. It was the perfect fall beer. Comforting like a cardigan, hence the name. This particular bottle has aged a year so the cherries have faded a bit and the brett is more pronounced. But I still like it. Intentionlly uncarbed.

Coffee Blueberry Oud Bruin - 2015 - This was a total mistake that I kept loving with. Started as a brown ale that had a weird overpowering woody hop flavor so I blended in a new batch of lightly hopped wort to temper the hoppiness. The resulting beer didn’t have the roasted character I was expecting so I added cold brew coffee. But I still wasn’t happy so I decided to just sour it with flemish ale yeast. I’m actually pretty happy with how this turned out even though it’s a very weird beer. It never carbed.

Sour Pale - 2015 - This is my first attempt at making a hoppy sour. The base recipe was a very light mosaic and lemon drop pale ale. It was fermented with Yeast Bay Funktown Pale Ale, aged for 3 months, then dry hopped with Australian Summer. I’m incredibly happy with how it turned out. I just wish I had made it earlier in the year so I could sip on it in warmer weather

You might remember Schell from the "crafty vs. craft" controversy a few years ago. They've been a medium-sized brewer in the MN/WI region for a long--rear end time. Basically, they're the independent equivalent to Leinenkugel's. As part of their traditional German styles, they added small run Berliners. I had Dawn of Aurora at last year's FOBAB and loved it. I liked Starkeller Peach a lot, too. And I have a friend who I grab a sixer or case of Schell Dark for every time I see it because he insists it's the best cheap beer on the planet.

From left to right:

Oceanus Procellarum ( I think..) by Harvest Moon - I had a hard time reading the name of this beer but everything you need to know about it is at the bottom of the label anyhow. Bourbon barrel aged imperial stout with cacao nibs, vanilla beans, cinnamon and 5 different chili peppers! Sounds fantastic.

Mezcal Milkshake by Brothers - I am both excited and worried about this one. A sweet imperial milk stout aged in tequila barrels and finished on orange zest.

Futnote by Brothers - This sounds insanely complex and delicious. A bright belgian base 100% wild fermented with brett brux and lambicus. They then added lacto, aged it in cabernet barrels for 15 months and finished it with a blend of 5 fruits. :drat:

Rosso e Marrone by Captain Lawrence - 2009 GABF gold medal winning wine BA'd sour with grapes. Yeah, I'll drink that for sure.

Tired Hands Teku with a funky smoking termite!

Dochter Seizoen by Forest & Main - Barrel aged saison ft. a knight hitting a bald eagle pinata thing.

Hapi by Forest & Main - A dry hopped barrel aged ale. The label makes it clear that animals of all types will be excited to try this beer.

Cross Pollination by Plan Bee and Newburgh x2 - 100% New York sourced ingredients sour ale brewed with rose hips and grape must. It took me until this morning to realize the wax is stamped differently on these. Apparently one bottle was fermented with honey yeast from Plan Bee and the other was fermented on Newburghs house yeast. Super cool! I almost cracked one of these last night and now I'm really glad I didn't because obviously they will need to be done side by side.

Shambolic by Tired Hands - Oak Foudre fermented Saison dry hopped with Nelson and Simcoe. I love Tired Hands and their saison game is top notch, looking forward to this baby!

Pourison by Tired Hands - :chanpop: an oak fermented peach saison?? Hell yeah I love peaches!!

Le Roar Grrrz Melange by Bullfrog - Wowowow :ducksiren: :ducksiren: :ducksiren: barrel aged sour with aroniaberries (no clue wtf those are but all berries are cool with me) blueberries, and cherries! I've been hearing about the Grrrz forever but have yet to try any, can't wait to crack this baby!

I have no idea where to start on this box. I gotta go make some friends because I can't handle all these rad tapes on my own. Everything sounds so drat good! God help me I'm even excited about the tequila barrel aged one...

Sorry for the delay ChiTownEddie! I got home late and went straight to see Star Wars and couldn't post. I can't tell you how happy I am with this box. I think you actually hit every single thing in my Santa Letter. Your letter was awesome to describe the beers and made me super excited to try these.

Transient Artisan Ales Neckbeard Nectar - Imperial stout with coconut and cinnamon. I loving love coconut and cinnamon so this is gonna be great. I think neckbeard nectar should just be the default nickname for craft beer come to think of it.

Transient Artisan Ales Pentameter 2 - Lambic inspired ale aged in oak barrels

Une Anee Le Seul II - AWA with raspberries

Marz Ruby's Tears - Gose with Hibiscus

Revolution Bean Gene - BA porter with coffee. I'm so excited for this. I've heard all you Chicagoons talk about Eugene and Coffee Eugene so this is gonna be amazing. I'm collecting every possible coffee beer I can get my hands on for a coffee beer extravaganza with my brother and friend over the holidays so this is perfect.

Pipeworks Ninja vs Unicorn - Guaranteed ultra fresh. Have loved every Pipeworks beer I've had and have had some of the ninja series.

Half Acre Gone Away - Can't wait to try this one, it's getting crushed tonight.

Eddie you killed it man. Got me my coffee fix, sour fix, and hoppy beer fix. I've heard lots of talk about Transient in this thread and can't wait to try these. I love BIFs. Merry Christmas!
