well, the expected happened. they mostly handled it right

animation was noticeably slow during moments in the episode

Slow in what way? The technique demonstrations? The moments? Not sure what slow means? The switch to ED-style drawing in that one part was interesting.

I can't believe that the blue goblin is such an interesting and intimidating antagonist even though we'll probably never see him again, I think that's my favourite thing about the action in this episode. The mere fact alone that he was displaying proper swordsmanship makes him immediately intimidating and establishes him excellently.

might have just been my pc actually. wanted to make a gif but there was no slowness this time.

didn't notice any big animation faults (few weird faces from ranta but who cares) this episode, gj team.

also apparently the reason every episode so far has had an insert song is because the show is sponsored by the company that owns the band that makes those songs. the characters originally spoke during a few of them, according to shihoru's va, but the song was deemed more important

Are Japanese verbal ticks (or stuff like people talking in Kansai dialect) generally noticeable to people who don't know any Japanese? I imagine that at least "ending the sentence in _____" verbal ticks should be easily noticeable.

i notice them if it's like 1 character in the cast. if the whole cast speaks in dialect i don't notice

you'd think people would have some qualms about the fact the goblins basically act like humans before killing them.

they do. that's been a bit of a minor theme, more early on than now though.

manato spent the whole first 3 episodes saying "the goblins are desperate to live too" while ranta got grossed out about cutting into their bones

this episode was good. it felt like a final episode. i guess with 4 more episodes to go that's enough time to kill the kobold too

i mean i know they do. i just thought there would be a little moment when they noticed the goblin played chess

anime is doing fine. they get money from merch, not blu ray sales

Davincie

i don't have any numbers for 2015, but in 2014 the market value of the industry grew with 10%. blu rays aren't very important, just like in the west

I'm kidding

Seriously, tho, how's streaming/subscriptions or what not in Japan? Seems to me that's the future of the business, I'd be much more interested in numbers about that.

hulu, netflix, niconicodouga some other streaming sites i probably don't know of. they aren't' fantastic or anything, 90% of people just record anime and watch it the next day. there's also a fairly large second-hand market or just renting dvd's

i don't have exact information for demographics, but i can tell you that what is most popular for people to watch on tv generally isn't even remotely popular here. this article is very outdated of course, but it should give a general impression

https://aquabluesweater.wordpress.com/2011/04/06/japanese-rating/

but honestly merch makes a lot of money and blu ray sales aren't that awful, for example not even all the osomatsu volumes are out and it's already in the top 3 best selling anime ever. you also have to keep in mind that anime is a hit based industry, far from every show makes money but those that do make a ton of money make enough money to pay for the rest of them

here's a website that tracks dvd/blu ray sales
http://www.someanithing.com/

obviously it doesn't have merch, because that's impossible to track.

here's some graphs for anime industry profit, relating to the earlier conversation
http://imgur.com/a/PmUFR

note that it includes all animation released in japan (so also disney) so look at it more as a general trend indicator rather than hard numbers
