So I have a rather old laptop. I mean its okay and it runs Xcom just dandy apart from the cutscenes (for no adequately explicable reason), do you think it'll be okay for X com 2?

Because I wouldn't want to run EW on anything less than Haswell integrated graphics. Xcom 2 will probably want a discrete card unless you're willing to turn down the resolution to like 720p.

I erm... I am bad at computers, its 3 years old and apparently my processor is as follows: Intel Core i5-2450M CPU @ 2.50 GHZ

6 gig of ram, and I don't know how it works properly. sorry.

It won't be pleasant. Buy it on steam! You have two hours in which you can submit a refund request if your laptop can't run the game.

I am getting x-com as a birthday present for my little brother anyway as we both have steam, so it should be fine anyway. But as in "unpleasent" do you mean "crappy graphics" or "everything is terrible forever".

Yeahhhh I'm going to be playing this on "hard" as opposed to impossible. Though Beags doesn't seem to have adapted his playstyle as much to the new paradigm of "rush poo poo and stop overwatching". If anything the new style of map set up might actually help new players better than people who are used to slowly popping pods.

Still can't get it to work and got a somewhat generic email from Take 2 about it.

Sad, I want to be killing aliens now!

quote:

Thank you for contacting 2K Customer Support and for your interest in XCOM 2.

I'm sorry that you're experiencing this crash issue and would be more than happy to assist. I understand that you are experiencing issues with your PC; I'm a long time PC gamer myself and a big fan and gamer of XCOM as well and I want to help you with this as best can and I can definitely understand how an issue with your game could be a cause for concern.

The first bits of troubleshooting I would suggest are the following:

Verifying the integrity of the Steam game cache

Load Steam
From the Library section, right-click on the game and select “Properties” from the menu
Select the “Local files” tab and click the “Verify integrity of game cache” button
Steam will match the local files to the cloud files, and fix any errors it encounters

Refresh your steam files

Completely exit the Steam client.
Open the run dialogue by pressing windows key + r (you can also navigate here from the start menu by typing run).
Type steam://flushconfig then press enter. (If asked to allow this website to open a program, please click Allow or OK).
Restart your computer.
Now, launch Steam directly from the installation folder, not from a pre-existing shortcut (~C:\program files (x86)\Steam).
The Steam application will either appear as Steam or Steam.exe depending on whether your settings show file extensions.

Uninstall and Reinstall the game completely

There is a possibility that some of the files which are installed during the setup process are incomplete or corrupted. Try uninstalling the game completely and reinstalling it under its default or express settings.

Reinstalling DirectX

In your Steam folder for the game you’re having trouble with, there will be typically be a DirectX setup package.
Example file path: C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\XCOM 2\ _CommonRedist\DirectX\Jun2010
Find and run DXSETUP.exe
Reboot the computer (mandatory)

Reinstalling Vcredist

Navigate to your game’s steam folder – there will be two Vcredist folders.
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\XCOM 2 \ _CommonRedist\vcredist\2012
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\XCOM 2 \ _CommonRedist\vcredist\2013
Find and Run vcredist_x86.exe in both folders
Find and Run vcredist_x64.exe in both folders
Should the files already be installed, you will be prompted to either ‘uninstall’ or ‘repair’. Choose ‘repair’.
Reboot the computer (mandatory)

Reinstalling Microsoft .NET

Navigate to your game’s steam folder – there will be a DotNet folder.
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\XCOM 2 \ _CommonRedist\DotNet\4.5.1
Find and Run NDP451-KB2872776-x86-x64-AllOS-ENU.exe
Should the file already be installed, you will be prompted to either ‘uninstall’ or ‘repair’. Choose ‘repair’.
Reboot the computer (mandatory)

If that doesn't resolve the issue, I would like to gather some more information about your computer.

For this information we will need to see your DXDiag and MSinfo files.

To get these files:
1) Close all open applications
2) Press the Windows key +'R' on your keyboard > Type dxdiag > Click OK > Click Save all information
3) Press the Windows key +'R' on your keyboard > Type msinfo32 > Click OK > Select File and then EXPORT and save the file as a text file(*.txt)
4) A screenshot/video of any error messages that you might be getting.

To take a screenshot:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/use-snipping-tool-to-capture-screen-shots
Log in to your support ticket and then select the "attach file" option under the comments box to attach the files to your case. Alternatively respond to this email with the files attached.
Once we receive this information, we will research your issue and update your ticket.
Should you have any additional questions or concerns related to our 2K titles, please do not hesitate to contact us again!

Thank you,
Kind regards,
Jalal N.

More in the continuing saga of game not working, reinstall did nothing, trying to reverify the cache again and then going to go through the other efforts.

When I reverify the cache it tells me that 1 file failed to validate itself, but I've reinstalled the game twice now, any help at all guys?

Try to find the software for your card (I don't know, look for AMD or NVIDIA between your programs), that will usually have power options for certain programs, setting XCOM 2 for high power or something like that should do it if there is a dedicated card in the machine.

On that note I'm spending an inordinate amount of time "upgrading" my soldiers' appearance as they level up, and compose a suitably in character epitaph for when they eventually get dropped. As Rookies they have basic resistance armour; Squaddies earn class appropriate colours and loosely co-ordinated clothing. One higher level than that they earn the right to have a hat, etc etc. It's an incredibly loving nerdy level of continuity but I love it so much.

My only rule is that outside of character pool soldiers I won't touch their physical customization beyond hair/tattoos/scarring.

Hey, what's up red ranger/green grenadier buddy. :haw:

Thats probably the best way to have it. Though I can't wait for the inevitable "increase your stats around the base by assigning your soldiers to rooms to practice" mod.
