Sight lines in this game are so wacky. If I'm behind full cover and therefore one tile back from the edge of high ground I really don't expect to be seen much less grabbed through the floor. This is why I'll never play Ironman.

I love what they did to bring in elements like Training Roulette without taking away from the main purpose of each class but you get really locked into AWS -> GTS at the start. The tutorial is also once again in your advantage to skip entirely yet contains critical story.

Edit: Ah so sight range is a cylinder that goes straight up from minimum height with no terrain occulsion. GG Firaxis

Does the tutorial really park you in the furthest corner of Russia on purpose? God forbid I get an easy continent bonus to start my game (which is now Europe so I guess that whole EU thing really worked out for the aliens).

Sure but Europe and Oceania are two territories each (not sure about South America as it will be awhile before I can get there). Asia is something like six. At least antennae are money well-spent?

This is what I get for always playing North America in EU/EW.

I have soldiers being seen through doors (and shooting overwatch through doors no less) and an Andromedon just shot my squad through a solid wall. Is there anywhere to complain about this poo poo? They're not even playtesting this game anymore.

Edit: Now a sectopod is seeing me drone-hack an objective and walking through it after the hack finishes, which still breaks the terminal and cancels the objective. I'm >< this close to just giving up on the game.

I'm getting offered shots like these all the time. Later in the mission she shot an ADVENT through a solid roof.

This flare dropped in the middle of a building with a blown-out wall but the roof was completely solid.

I was able to shoot a rocket through a solid wall, though at least this time the wall showed the round passing through it / damage. Enemies have done the same to me.

I've also had soldiers run through closed doors instead of kicking them open. All those shots are from the same mission, which I had to relentlessly savescum because a Sectopod was seeing my drone hack something on the other side of a wall and then walking through that wall to fail the objective despite the hack being complete.

So far my solution to line-of-sight bugs is never ever quickload. It's like quick saves don't retain level geometry...? Granted I've been fighting outdoors so I have no idea.

Edit: Oh hey, it finally fixed itself in the third refresh. Unfortunately the sectoid panicked my grenadier on the second to last turn (cause that roll has yet to fail in this campaign) so he got left behind. Did that mod for upgraded gunpower / magnetic weapons ever get a final release? When you bought the next tier of weapons it brought the previous tiers in line with it for damage and mod space so you could use whatever was most fun. For me the machine guns and handguns feel better as cannons.

It's broken through destructible geometry like buildings but not fixed geometry like terrain, and seems to get worse if you quickload. I've had some levels be fine and others become essentially unplayable unless I can massively outgun the aliens.

The secret to rulers is burning weapons so they take damage every reaction and just focusing them down until they run. Even on really tight missions with mandatory evac you can usually get rid of them in time to escape.

It's definitely a bug with level geometry not being properly restored in a quickload. If I go through missions without loading at all (or possibly sticking to autosaves) I'm fine.

I have the plasma lance on my SPARK as it's the only heavy weapon I've been able to make with so few Elerium cores (and that's even with a build-your-own-cores mod). It's basically a delete button for anything in the Hammer's sight range.

Not sure; from what I understand the new system lets you buy extra skill points on characters and each character gets the two paths (now laid out Mass Effect style left-to-right) plus some random bonus options. So for instance I'd want my combat Ranger (Jacket) to get Kill Zone like he did last game so a Chrysalid charge ends up like it did for Assaults with Close Combat Specialist in XCOM 1. If he rolls lovely overwatch skills that don't work for that kind of build I feel like I'd end up re-loading to whatever point those skills get picked, which knowing :xcom: is when it loads the character, i.e. during Gatekeeper.

Basically Gunslingers are more useful more often, but when long-range snipers are good they're really good. It's worth having both. Kill Zone and Serial offer some of the best one-turn killing power in the game when you can set them up, but it's hard to set it up on retaliations and any mission where you need to evac on a timer. (Timed missions where you don't need to evac, like device hacks, are a lot more forgiving.)
This is my advice too. My long-range sniper was invaluable in the final fight because Kill Zone and a large magazine meant I could drop entire packs of aliens and take the heat off while fighting avatars.

I think I built one early last time I played on Normal (one above easiest) and just parked a single Master Librarian in there until he had everything trained. The guy came out late but incredibly overpowered and was saved from bleeding out on the last mission by a single action.
