This is going to sound like a weird request, but does anyone have an animated gif of Central giving VO that appears in the corner, the one that's staticky and jumbled in XCOM2? I'd like to use it for my avatar.

So I blew through the game on Veteran with the Long War mods easily enough that I figured I'd do something to change the difficulty up without just upping the difficulty to Commander. Jesus Christ, ABA2 makes this game so frustrating and unenjoyable I can't even figure out what the gently caress to do anymore. Nobody can hit anything and I don't know why. I'm only on Veteran in this game, so it's not like the game is secretly taking each of my shot rolls out back and molesting them or anything. Is early game A Better ADVENT 2 supposed to be this impossibly frustrating and terrible?

Apoplexy
Mar 9, 2003

by Shine
Yeah, no matter what I do, I can't make ABA2 even remotely enjoyable. There's difficulty, and then there's complete loving retardation. This is the latter. There's absolutely no reason to have pods of 4 minimum at the start of the game. Christ, the only way to make this even remotely balanced is to set the base squad size to 10.

Actually, scratch the bitching. I just had to get a level or two in some of those ShadowOpsLW classes. And I was on a nearly impossible map where two pods would constantly set each other off and were on a raised plateau.

in a compromise, if they are really messing with your enjoyment of the game, there is the True Concealment mod to only start countdown timers after you blow concealment. it requires some finagling though because like everything else on the goddamn planet the mod cannot just do one thing cleanly, it does some other configurable junk to Dark Events so you'll have to gently caress around with it.

I prefer Default Timers True Concealment. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=619816174 It lacks the Dark Event and doesn't futz with the timers like the base mod does. 9 and 13 is pretty much just enough when combined with True Concealment.

If you have more than 4 classes, like with the Long War Perk Pack, you'll almost invariably end up with an equal amount of each class. I've only seen one or two cases where priority wasn't given to making Second Assault or Second Shinobi or Third Ranger over An Extra Y.

https://github.com/aEnigmatic/xcom2-launcher/releases/latest is what I'm using because of the universal community acclaim. I had the same issue with mods deactivating at random and now I don't because this thing isn't a flaky piece of poo poo like the base mod launcher is.

Oh, also! Is there a list of recommended mods for clothing and customization stuff? I like to customize my dudes after they get promoted, and the vanilla options are kinda sparse.

There are a few options you can use to expand your dress-up options. There's a suite of mods called Progressive Armor Options adds Kevlar options to Predator and Warden, for instance. I use that one and have used this one in the past: http://www.nexusmods.com/xcom2/mods/626 so I'd recommend either of those!

Considering the options available without active threads, someone should make a new thread when Long War 2 launches for the FiraXCOMs, Xenonauts, OpenXCOM (which owns), and anything else needing coverage. I know OpenXCOM used to have an active thread here, and that's the only reason I know about it. It's the best thing ever for someone who grew up on the original.

Bleedout is functionally impossible on units with less than, I think, 50 will. And Rookies start with 40 in the base game without mods/Not Created Equal. That said, medkits kick rear end on a Specialist with the ability to spend their GREMLIN all over the entire map to deploy the charges of them as need be.

That's a LOS bug, yeah. It's a shame because it happens a lot more than an ordinary bug should. Wait until you start getting gunned down through 3 stories of building from the ground floor by ADVENT troopers. That one's always a gas.

Haven't played this in a while so I started it up again but with all the Long War small mods this time around. I noticed that grenade explosion radius is now limited to one tile around whichever you select, and the bubble means nothing anymore. Is there a way to remove that because boy howdy does it suck.

E: Also does the increased squad size thing cause any of the difficulty to scale or does taking 12 dudes to my missions just make them a joke?

To answer your questions, the grenade snapping is able to be removed, there's a mod for that. The base squad size has absolutely nothing coupled to it; if you play with base enemies on a squad of 6-8, you'll have an easy time, but not with ABA2.

edit: And speaking of random mod poo poo: THIS appears to have been found to fix the way you'll be on the ceiling of a 3-story building and have ADVENT on the ground floor firing through every wall in creation at you with dire precision. A simple value tweak in the .inis.

Also gatecrasher always seems easy because you field 10 soldiers without infiltration. If you try throwing the same 10 soldiers into the first guerilla mission theyll be met on the ground by probably about 25 advent, sectoids and drones :mrwhite:

Yeah, something everyone needs to know: Don't ever under-infiltrate unless you're fielding 10 men against an extremely light base force and the overage is still pretty low. The enemy count skyrockets dramatically from the start with that, I was only at guarded status with an hour or two over the max infiltration duration on extremely ligth and I got loving reamed by 4 pods of 4, including Vipers and Stun Lancers earlier than I'd seen them before.

Seriously, its that much worse even if youre a couple hours short of full infiltration? 4 doesnt seem enough for me to hit objectives on time and 5 soldiers puts me at like 98 percent infiltration... maybe if i give them all SMGs and buy a silencer or two Ill be able to send 5 in at full infiltration.

An SMG or a suppressor will change things drastically. I've almost always got a few soldiers with SMGs (Shinobi, always, and low-movespeed units whose import is mainly non-primary weapon based, like a Grenadier), and the difference in deploying a Gunner with Cannon and a submachinegun-wielder is pretty big.

Also, something to expand upon the idea of the Suppressor, here's a mod that allows you to turn kills made via a suppressed weapon into silent, non-alerting ones. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=844955101 It makes taking out a single drone so you can get through the map a loooooooooooot easier.
