I guess you can delay the tech long enough to block a frame trap.

-when you're waking up
-after blocking a jumpin
-when the tech is a reaction (i.e. You can tech after the opponent has thrown you)
-as an option select against wakeup throw or other situations where a late tech OS is useful

I saw the troubles with legacy sticks on a tournament stream but what's the deal with regular DS4s people are talking about? I'm thinking of trying to go to tournaments (to be free to people) but it's likely I'll only have a DS4 to play with for a while.

Evo bans DS4s (and all other wireless controllers that sync to the console) because there have been lots of problems in the past with people not desyncing their controller and then random home button hits interrupt matches later on.

Not sure if any other tournaments ban them too.

No. Any controller that pairs with the system is not allowed. The only wireless controllers that are allowed are MadCatz wireless pads with a dongle.

He himself on the description gives a more reasonable explanation:

"I guess a very good alternative explanation would be to say that the latter part of the video is just general good FG design, and those things were also present in SF4, which is *technically* true, but they seem more prominent now that SFV devs increased pushback, nerfed light attacks and nerfed certain heavy attacks like sweeps. So maybe it's not an ASW thing but it's a clear deviation from the many versions of SF4. An interesting topic to discuss at least."

But also how is a "nerfed" sweep more GG/BB?

Because now instead of sweep being your best long-range poke, characters have to use their "slash-like" s.MK, cr.MK, or whatever normals at midrange.

I still think the video is pretty dumb though, 90% of the things said in it could apply to any SF game.

But which characters had sweep as their best long-range poke in 4 anyway? Switching from heavies to mediums I could understand as a point.

Chun's sweep wasn't her BEST poke in 4 (she had about 3 or 4 best pokes), but it's definitely a bad poke now.

Characters like Balrog, Rufus, and T. Hawk tended to sweep a lot too.

E: I would say this applies a lot more in ST also, many characters have insanely good sweeps in that game (shotos, zangief, t hawk, balrog, etc)

Randomly decided to do another one of these:

Differences from my day 1 list:

Cammy dropped - I think I overrated her at first, her pressure is less safe than I thought. Still strong though.
Necall and Dhalsim went up a lot - Definitely didn't recognize how good these guys are until I fought some good ones. Ridiculous.
Ken went up slightly - I always thought he was pretty good but now I think he's just about as good as Ryu, about halfway up the pack.
Zangief went down slightly - I definitely think he's viable but the more I see the more I feel like he loses to all the top tiers.

Thoughts?

Yeah I was wondering about Ken actually. In Daigo's stream he and the usual suspects among Japanese high level play said that Ken and Ryu are equal. I was just wondering what people are discovering about the character especially since first impressions weren't exactly great.

People who were saying Ken was lovely were reeeeally overreacting to his V-Skill nerfs. He doesn't need normal->run->normal that's safe on block to be good. He has good hit confirms, good damage, pretty decent midrange normals, one of the few true fireballs in the game, and he can punish -3 and -4 moves in situations where a lot of characters can't.

i think dhalsim is inarguably top tier, even if he has some bad matches i think he will have some of the most lopsided matches in his favor to make up for it. i mean its theoretical but with v-reversal he has a way to escape he never had before, combine it with a lot of the cast having to take at least a little damage to safely get close to him and yeah he will be really rough.

I think Sim gets wrecked by Rashid and Bison which is probably enough to keep him out of true top tier. Against everyone else though, especially shotos and grapplers, he's insanely good.

Okay, this is so far beyond what I'm even doing that I have literally no idea what this would even begin to entail. If I whiff things aren't I just create opportunities for my opponent to kick my poo poo in? Like Laura doesn't have any normal that advance her position on the stage so I have literally no idea what whiffing a bunch of attacks would even do as long as my opponent is vaguely calm?

I'm grateful for the help, but I honestly don't understand.

E: FB Cams who said that way better than I could.

Whiffing normals can be good because it makes the opponent unable to walk forward without getting hit. Though obviously the slower a normal is (and how predictable you are with using it), the more likely you are to get whiff punished.

Sticks tend to last a pretty long time, and any problems you have down the line can usually be fixed pretty cheaply.
