hello im thinking of buying amd stock on friday if it drops when they announce earnings on thursday. the point is to get in on the new playstation 4 action which will surely be a big success http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2016-sonys-plan-for-playstation-4k-neo-revealed why is this a bad idea

Their cpu division is basically a disaster and they've had shrinking revenue/cash flow for several years in a row. If you think Polaris will be substantially better than Pascal and also that VR will take off and drive new GPU / PS4matrix sales then buy buy buy. Also they might have a new CPU coming out that could be good, but it'd probably require Intel releasing some kind of turd of a chip to matter

my case here is that the x86 cpu market is gonna keep shrinking and nobody really expects them to get a market share above 0 on it regarding pascal (im guessing thats the equivalent nvidia thing) i dont know if it will be better but amd being supposedly on: 1. the new ps4 2. the new nintendo console 3. the old ps4 which is gonna get cheaper and sell a shitton this christmas it should hopefully sell better

becomes zen will likely be competitive with intel cpus from 1.5 process steps ago. they have no game in the hpc market. if their next gpu lineup was actually good we'd have heard rumours to that effect by now. their debt situation is not good and their cashflow is shrinking. so good luck op. be sure to post r/wallstreetbets since you're clearly ok with making bad decisions.

desktop standalone gpus? is that the all important market of 100k 15 year olds buying alienware computers with their moms money because sony sold like 20m ps4s last year i cant find the exact number

there's some dude in wallstreetbets holding a 25k 152x leveraged position in oil anyway that's not tech related there are rumors that Polaris has some asynchronous compute advantage over Pascal that might be cool and good in ways that sound alot like hyperthreading?

both ps4 and xbone released in 2013, since then AMD has lost more and more money each year, I dont know if more video game consoles are the answer but maybe they are heck if I know edit: lol there's a word filter for xbone

hmm thats a good point maybe they can stop bleeding money if they bow out of the x86 cpu market

if you are sure it will go down buy some put options, or if you are really sure just short it now.

just take half of the money you were going to put in amd stock and put it in some nice sensible index funds. then take the other half and go to a casino. more fun and probably far better return

some of these consumer finance startups are going to cause a lot of trouble in the future. there is (or was) and american one trying to sell design your own structured products to consumers, and there's one here that lets you bet your retirement savings on loans secured against small aircraft in south america

I prefer the one where you send an email to a large number of people and tell half of them the price of a stock will go up and half the price will go down, after getting three or so in a row you convince the rest of them to let you invest their life savings, then you gently caress off to south east asia and spend the rest of your life poo poo-posting on the 'pos and sipping tropical drinks.

If you're investing in single stocks and checking their price daily that is a sign that you're bad at investing.
