Shockingly enough, if Dawn Goons still played I'd probably still multiplayer to this day. Rolling around with a big mob of boyz to krump some chaosy gits will never get old.

Now that you mention it. The Last Stand was used as a promo tool. It's weird that they added the Necron Lord two months ago completely out of the blue, and it's not connected to DoW3.:crossarms: ...unless it is and there's a fourth race.

They'd better be. They've been hinting at Necrons since Retribution's ending.

Giant mountain-like imagery and an aesthetic of trudging through the inevitable; I think the Necrons would fit right in.

I preferred the smaller scale of DoW2 so seeing big unit blobs and base building isn't doing much to hype me. Maybe I'll change my mind as more info is released but I keep thinking back to Dark Crusade where the A.I., despite having zero on-map sources of income, was cranking out full units of Terminators so fast I had to teleport in and base snipe just to win the mission.

Going for a Big Blob type of game lends itself to Nids and IG so we'll probably get them quickly. I'd love to see them keep small units of Marines & Eldar while giving us horde numbers for Orks and whoever else where appropriate.

IIRC the quote at the beginning of the trailer was made in reference to the tinheads, though I doubt they'll be in as a playable race. Maybe a boss enemy in the SP campaign...

Yeah, someone said in another thread that it was a quote by an inquisitor investigating the Necrons. My guess is boss faction in the campaign, playable in multiplayer. They kept the Tyranids out the pre-release marketing for DoW2 until closer to release after all.

Yeah, I hope that look is closer to the final game than the screenshots we've seen so far. I assume so; I mean, even though the cinematic trailer is presumably made by a third party, would they let it out of the door with such a large tone/art style difference to the game-as-intended?

I'm so incredibly hyped up for this game. Too bad they did not give an indication of the possible time for release... 1 year? 6 months? Who knows.

Not too worried by the change of art direction. Blizzard did the same thing with D3 and people saddled up fairly fast to complain about the steer-away from grimdark graphics.

DoW 2 was one of my favorite games of all time, especially for the co-op and multiplayer, so I'm definitely following this and hoping I can adjust to actually dealing with a base again, which has always been my bane in RTSes. Primarily dealing with positioning and good ability use just clicked perfectly for me in 2, though I definitely get why especially fans of the first one might hate it.

That seems really likely. I think they've already stated that SM, Orks, and Eldar will all be playable in the campaign, and it'd be pretty much exactly taken from their regular playbook to later reveal one big bad for them to unite against. Necrons seem like a pretty good bet in that regard.

Also, judging from those screenshots, they finally gave Eldar the Dire Avengers as their proper line infantry instead of stupid Guardians all the time. And those guys at the very bottom of the third screenshot actually could be Shadow Spectres! :neckbeard:

The Fantasy units in Total Warhammer are generally not big solid blocks of armor like Marines/Eldar; even Warriors of Chaos break up the blob of armor with yelly marauder dudes and dogs and chaos spawn and stuff. Fully armored guys in a colorful, cartoony style tend to look very toyetic and plasticy. I don't actually have a problem with it but I can see why people would.

Also super disappointed to hear they're moving away from DoW2's focus on the tactical combat to bring back unit blobbing and base building again. I played the poo poo out of DoW1 for hundreds of hours but from a multiplayer perspective DoW2 was a dramatic leap forward in terms of actual play and Dawn Goons games were the best.

CoH 2 pretty much proved that relic have no talent left in the shell of their company, nor any understanding of what made CoH1 and DoW2 such great games.

Sega will turn this into another micro-dlc hellfest with additional "moba style" features because nobody under the age of 25 (and that's being generous) has any idea what an RTS is anymore.

Yeah I have no faith in this being a good game. Company of heroes was one of best RTS games I've ever played and CoH2 was like one step above a f2p game. DoW 2 was a mess mechanically and this doesn't look like they learned their lessons.

Yeah, same here. I play the DoW games for multiplayer and while I loved the original Dawn of War and all the expansions for it, the multiplayer for DoW2 was much deeper and with a significantly higher skill ceiling that made for some really enjoyable and memorable matches that the original game simply couldn't provide. It will be a real shame if they're scaling back the deep micro DoW2 enabled just because people missed basebuilding. It looks like they're aiming to make Dawn of War 3 as accessible as possible however, so it's inevitable that they'd have to dumb down as much as they can to accomplish that. I'm still excited for a new Dawn of War game but the information provided so far doesn't inspire much confidence, it's looking like we'll be getting a watered down experience for people who just like building bases and given the choice I'd have preferred that they just put together a new Necron-based expansion for DOW2 instead.

I usually stop playing RTS games because I get nervous about the whole base building thing and getting it just right. It's no fun when I know I can't match the other guy. I never had that problem with DoW2. I'm still excited to see what they do though. Even DoW1's base building was a bit on the casual side compared to other games.

The constant cutscenes in DOW 2 vs the original really irritated me. When I'm playing a RTS game I want to be left alone to get on with it, dammit. Instead, every couple of minutes, control would be snatched away from me and I'd get:

"Commander! There's a gate over there! If we smash though it, we can flank the orks!"

"Commander! If we re-activate that power complex, we can fortify the area and buy time until the drop ship arrives!"

"Commander! Let me yank you away from the complicated maneuver you're trying to pull off and switch the camera to the other side of the map for 30 seconds, so you've forgotten what you were trying to do by the time I let you have control again!"

How about you just gently caress off and let me work my strategies out myself?
