Pillars: 1. Marie Beaumont: Editor/chief journalists/printer/marketing director/well, sole employee of the socialist newspaper "The Red Herald". Louis was friends with her older brother during the war... until he was shot by the French for socialist agitation after the great mutiny of 1917. She publishes some of his essays on art, and doesn't know of his main source of income; although her paper is largely funded by him in secret. 2. Simon Villenueve: Owner of a mechanic's shop. Salt of the earth. Also friends from the war. Has a large family. He helped Louis restore pillar 3 after it suffered an unfortunate accident. 3. As far as the star is concerned, I think we never had it. We were casing the joint, broke in, and found that it was gone, and now we're being blamed for it. Not blamed by the police, mind you, but by some rather persistent toughs who seem to work for an unknown party.

I really like the car as a source but would that manifest as going for a drive to clear his head? old friend/politics-based/crime-based/romantic interest(woman or place) for the 4 sources is cool as fas as connections and balance, with possibly his car replacing the romance. But this is a group source thing and I'm really excited about it so I'm posting a lot, so it bears saying please don't be too influenced by anything I say unless you think the same!

Ideas are not a problem, I just don't want to close a vote when people haven't has a say - on the other hand, people may not be interested in this phase or have no good ideas, and are just waiting for the story to start - That, or they've wandered off bored already

Hell yes. I'll play him more like his Secret Army counterpart in terms of his capibilities, but the idea of a balding overweight man who is inexplicably successful with the ladies has to be used.

as per Zybourne and RandomPauI. The greatest part about a Cthuhlu game by GH is we will have plenty of characters to defiantly try out.

So, the votes are tied on these two sets of pillars.RandomPauI posted:I'm going to modify a few of Apocron's idea's to better fit the "communist" aspect of Louis's personality Apocron posted:Pillars of Sanity suggestions: This is interesting, as they are pretty much opposites, Apocron's self-centered thief vs RandomPauI's much more socialist one - both have their good points, but will send the Louis in very different directions personality wise (something I love btw.) - both these sets have three votes each. When it comes to sources of stability, things are also looking tight at this stage. René Artois has four votes, but Monsieur Tartin, Étienne-Samuel Cargot, Jean-Paul La Fountain and Inspector Dixon all have three - one of them will have to go! I've got the bulk of update one written, but I'll edit it and change the choices depending on the final vote. I'd like to get it out tomorrow, but it'll depend on if the deadlock has been broken!

Voting Monsieur Tartin, Rene Artois, Inspector Dixon, and Jean-Paul la Fountain as Sources. La Petite Moulin should really figure in here somewhere but I guess all the people there counts!

I see Rene and the Moulin as the same, so I may well combine them.

I also thought these were ideas Grey would select from but if it's a vote, here we go. Voting Random Paul, not because the other set aren't good, but #1 and #3 are tied into Class Act, and I prefer the nuance that is applied to #2 in Paul's. We really should care about the car though but I'm not sure we should be to the extent of losing sanity over it. deliberately avoids "S Car Go!" pun Rene is a stroke of genius, also love the pet cat (Tartin) There is a bit of a contradiction between Fountain and Dixon (can't have an undercover cop know it's you but have no evidence and at the same time have a cop who has all the evidence but no name), and I like the Catch Me If You Can aspect of two great rivals who would love to meet but never can. Because I'm biased, of course, I'll keep Dixon in Vote drop Fountain le Penn If Dixon (possibly of Dock Green fame) stays in, you can Frenchify his name. I wasn't good at naming anyway and even switched name to Inspector McLooseau halfway thorough.

It will be a test of Grey's British-ness to avoid relying excessively on French stereotypes, but I certainly hope at least one cigarette-smoking, beret wearing, baguette carrying mime is knocked into the River Seine or eaten by shoggoths.

L'Humanité 1 June 1920 The Pink Panther Strikes Again! Last night, the Infamous “Pink Panther” robbed the home of the capitalist dog Matthieu Vincent - taking for himself a famed jewel known as the “Eye of Carcossa.” This mysterious purple gem is known to be priceless and of mysterious origin. Although the name has been known for centuries, no one has even been able to say where or what Carcossa was. The Pink Panther, a notorious self serving thief, is thought to have broken into the…... The Petit Moulin The Pink Panther. It was a silly nickname - When Louis Dumont had stolen the large pink stone, the papers had called him the “the Pink Panther thief”.over the next few years as more and more heists were attributed to him, (not all of them were his jobs, but it always paid to keep the Gendarmes misinformed.) the name had dropped the thief part of it and become a name the people of Paris, and even France knew. He had to laugh at the communist paper’s labelling of him as “self serving” - but they were not to know that a large part of their operating budget came from his crimes. Louis put down the newspaper and took a sip of his wine and looked around the Petit Moulin. It was still early in the evening, but there were already a few people here. The surroundings were opulent, with red velvet chairs and well looked after wood everywhere. The food and drink here was divine, and the clientele was often a good source of information on the comings and goings of the city. This was Louis’s home away from home, a place where he felt safe. René Artois, the Owner was chatting with two of the bar maids, Maira and Yvette. He was, as normal, flirting with them and they were batting their eyelashes back at him. How a slightly overweight, balding middle aged man with a lazy eye was so successful was beyond him. As he watched, the man suddenly stood up straighter and the waitresses moved away as if they had just stopped at the bar as part of their job. Seconds later, Edith, René’s harridan of a wife walked into the room. Somehow the man never got caught. Seeing his eyes upon him, René left the bar (and his wife before she could strike up a conversation) and walked over towards Louis. “Monsieur Dumont! how can I help you today?” He asked. He was always formal in the bar area, treating Louis as he would any other of his customers - even though they had been friends for years. “Ahh, René, I have another item I could do with you holding in you safe for a short while. I have someone ready to collect it, but for now, I would like to keep it safe. Its of great sentimental value of course.” He picked up the small knapsack next to him and handed it to René. Over by the bar, Jean-Paul La Fountain was watching. Louis and René both had a strong suspicion that he was an undercover Gendarme, but he had never been able to find any evidence. They could have exposed him and fired him, but there was much comforts to be had in the devil you know. “Of course Monsieur! Any time for a customer as valued as you!” The deal was a good one, René would keep hot items, and take a small payment off the books, which he would then spend wining and dining his latest mademoiselle. René then motioned to the glass of wine - “Another?” he asked, before automatically signaling one of the girls to bring one. He knew his clients well. He then disappeared to the safe behind the bar - only he knew the combination, and Jean-Paul was far too honest to try and break in without a warrant. Louis picked up the old glass and finished it off, before settling back into his chair. It was time to decide how to spend tomorrow. The first item was of course, the Eye of Carcossa. The gem would be safe in the Moulin’s safe, but the longer it was out there, the more chance the Gendarmes would find it. He had a buyer lined up, but they were still searching hard for it, so moving it would be dangerous. He could leave it a few days for the heat to die down - Although Louis would admit to himself that the thing game him the creeps in a way he could not quite put his finger on. Then there was the option of looking for more work, or even scouting out his own, there was a new art installation in a gallery near the Louvre, and a few paintings there were causing a stir - there may well be one or two worth liberating. Either that or talking to one of his contacts to see if there was anything else people wished acquired for them - he would normally lie low after a heist that made the papers, but there was a lot to be said for breaking routine and keeping the Gendarmes on their toes. He could also speak to his colleagues in the Party - the Communists were gaining strength, and the Third Republic of France was looking shaky. If it was not a new scandal, it was a strike or a riot. Governments were known to fall overnight. The political scene was interesting to say the least. Memories of the war were still strong amongst the people, and a lot of people, Louis included, had military training and combat experience. Or he could actually lie low for a few days and see what happens. There was good food and fine wine to be had. Do we - A) Meet with the buyer and sell the Eye of Carcossa B) Cruise the art galleries looking for something worth stealing C) Meet with the black market contacts and see if there are any jobs D) Have a rest, we deserve it! E) Meet with our comrades in the Communist party and see how we can further the downfall of the capitalist society. F) Something else…. All our pools are full, and we are as hale and hearty as we will ever be.
