What Culture Pro Wrestling is the newest promotion to come out of the crowded English indie wrestling scene. It's created by Youtube listacle creators cum money marks. The matches are typically disappointingly booked and too short. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBwVHIVjmp0 Current roster and upcoming event info can be found here. All previous matches and a bunch of dumb list videos can be found on the WCPW Youtube Channel We don't give a gently caress about spoilers DPM fucked around with this message at 06:35 on Oct 10, 2016 |

I assumed this would be a joke promotion, but if they can get guys like Lethal and Ospreay then this might actually be something worth following. (Obligatory "put the belt on Jack the Jobber" comment goes here)

How can you put all those guys in the OP and not include Joe Hendry, LOCAL HERO I'll have to check this out, I'm not really a fan of What Culture but that's a good roster assuming any of those guys show up regularly.

(e: I have added everyone from the Roster with some documented history) Keen to hear what people thought of Episode 1? Obviously things are very small scale right now as they get themselves set up. As I mentioned in the thread title, the ring was hilariously small and I really didn't care for the second match between Ligero and Kirby. I know they're shoot friends and do a lot of work together, but I feel the comedy squash stuff went on for too long. I also really liked the ending of the Damo vs Hendry match, Jack really sold his dismay and I'm interested to see what they do with Hendry from here. The wrestling seems decent enough for who they had on the initial episode, and if they can get the guys they say they are getting to appear semi regularly, it seems like it could put out some good stuff. Like you said, the Ligero/Kirby match wasn't great. I skipped around a lot, so I don't have a real impression on the storyline stuff with the what culture guys, I just checked out the matches. Seems like something worth keeping an eye on.

Oh, I checked this out yesterday. I'm barely aware of What Culture and its staff/content, although I know Simon Miller from his Videogamer antics. I also know poo poo about the British indie wrestling scene. The wrestling was okay, a lot of non-finishes though. I really didn't like the Indian dude and he got like, HOURS on the mic. Triple Threat was good, I actually liked the comedy match and the #1 Contender was a'ight - I think Hendry's entrance overshadowed the match itself, but that's because it was a drat good entrance. Commentary was bad. Like, Simon tried to call the matches, green as he was, but the King dude was obnoxious, distracting and made a lot of jokes that just fell flat, the bickering was awkward and went on for too long, and they spoke over entrances and promos, which is something I personally hate. It being added in post also stiffened up the calls. Adam was miles better as a heel commentator, by the way, the last match had the best commentary easy. Production-wise it was way better than I expected from an Youtube promotion. Like, stuff is obviously not at a professional level but for a first show it's not bad at all. There's something about the audio mixing that makes it very clear commentary is added in post, but that's every goddamn indie video I've ever seen so who cares. EDIT: oh, the booking for the main event is kinda weird to me, it's a Miz-ish heel against...another heel? I mean, from promo stuff and the start of the match he felt like a babyface, but he worked heel and tried to use a chair? So the other guy was babyface, but he didn't feel like one? There is an inherent charm to it all, with the low rent building and and awkward humor and really good wrestlers. The what culture guys really don't add much to the show, if not hurt it all together, but without them they likely wouldn't sell as many tickets. I'm happy there is a showcase for all the great wrestlers over there now even if it is packaged in a strange way.

They have some legit interesting talent appearing for them, and I'm interested to see if it goes anywhere. I only have a fairly basic level of wrestling knowledge, and was hoping that the matches might spark some interesting conversation despite the dodgy, first time-ness of it all. Watched some stuff here and there. Lethal vs Ligero was pretty good. Most of the other wrestling seems fine, but nothing I'd go out of my way to see. Not at all into the What Culture personalities or the comedy skits. Overall, not really a promotion I'll be following, but it has the potential to produce individual matches worth checking out. Also, the "fight forever" chants in the Lethal-Ligero match have ruined that chant for me.

A lot of wrestlers that I like, that are spoken for by more prestigious organizations. They are likely to put on an alright match, but not really break out the A material. Sandow's kind of a vagabond so he could go either way on the effort scale. The local talent is local talent. I don't know what What Culture is but I assume it's bad.

Pinstripe Hourglass posted:This is going to lose so much money. It depends on what their Youtube take is like. That Lethal vs El Ligero video has over 100,000 views. The other vids for episode 2 are less, but don't dip below 50,000. Internet suggests the rate for views is around $2.50 per 1000 for partners, which is gently caress all really. But it is another revenue source on top of door sales.

I liked the wrestling on the first two episodes so far. They really need to work on commentary though. I watched the King Ross video on Episode 2 and apparently the commentators were only given the hard camera footage to work with while they were commentating, which made them talk over some spots where I would've loved to hear the wrestlers trash talking each other. That's only half an excuse though. The two guys couldn't stop talking, especially Ross. It seemed like if there was any silence, he felt that he needed to fill it, and it got kinda painful. If they can learn when they need to talk and when they can just let wrestlers do wrestling things, I'm sure it'll hold a decent fanbase. Ligero vs. Lethal was loving great.

Enjoyed the first couple of episodes well enough. There's been some really odd booking decisions for a bunch of smarks, but I'll probably keep watching for now. Simon/Ross remind me of Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan, and that's not really a good thing.

The Wrestling is still pretty nice (thoughts vary on Kirby vs Ligero and their comedy feud, personally I like it) and commentary was much better this week in my opinion with Ross solo and in combination with Adam. No idea why Coffey vs Primate needed a random gently caress finish though. Would have made more sense the other way around as with a beast asking for a wrench seems odd.

Hace posted:Get more views per event by breaking it up, I'd guess. it is 100% this. YT no longer has upload limits that would get in the way of something like this, they could upload a 4 hour show if they wanted to. they just don't want to because it is significantly suboptimal to do that. it is a niche thing so there is a very high likelihood that if a viewer watches one part of a show they will watch all of the parts, so why not juice those views and the ad revenue? you can turn one source of ad revenue into 8 that way. additionally, having a lot of highly viewed videos which are watched all the way through increases your search rankings (both per individual video and channel wide) so if they break up all their videos into shorter ones they can boost the search rankings of everything gradually, making it more likely to be near the top of a search for specific performers. videos that are clicked out of partway through will get a lower ranking than videos which are fully viewed, so if they uploaded it into one large block then all of the show would receive fewer full views from viewers burning out, which will tank the ranking. complete views are weighted much more heavily than total views, so most outlets will want to ensure their content is presented in a digestible way ensure view completion. basically they are playing the SEO game, so if you google or search YT for "Moose pro wrestler" one of their matches is more likely to appear as the recommended video.
