It has come to my attention that country music is in serious trouble and in fact, may be dead. It has apparently been replaced with generic pop songs that have a little twang or acoustic guitar added. This has enraged people. Take a listen to these three current "country" hits and let me know your thoughts on this very serious matter. In all honesty, I don't know a lot about country music, but from what I do hear, it does seem like it's just pop now. Even a decade ago a lot of the hits were coming from Toby Keith, Alan Jackson, George Strait, which certainly sounded a lot different than the three songs I put in the op. To be clear I don't care, but it is interesting how it evolved, and how everyone bitches about it, but seems to still listen,

Taylor Swift was the death knell of country, a rich little blonde with no rear end or hips singing songs about her teen bullshit problems, give me a loving break. Should have had Loretta Lynn slit her throat. Now all we have is old Ray Price albums we can only pull out and sigh, good bye country, we'll always have Dwight Yoakam, until he eventually drinks himself to death, the way any respectable country man do

Country's intended fan base has gradually shifted from guys who ride horses and work on tractors to "rednecks" who stand around all weekend wearing pink polo shirts and a Mossy Oak baseball cap while they hold a $40 Yeti cup and live the "Patio Lifestyle" so the shift in music style was inevitable. I blame that stupid Red Solo Cup song for starting the trend. Still....

Garth Brooks, Faith Hill, Shania Twain and Keith Urban are maybe the combo I'm thinking of. A lot of country that crossed over into the mainstream in a time when MTV and VH1 almost literally played ZERO country music with those almost being the only exception.
