Yeah, that's the rumor, 16th confirms late april release.

I have this horrible feeling it is getting bumped to Q3 though and I'm going to be so sad.

One of my friends pointed out mania on switch is like living the game gear dream (same battery life even) and gently caress I want a switch now. That is some nostalgia right there.

I don't think they would bump it that far. They still have Sonic 2017 they need to show off.

The Switch gets better battery life if it's not playing graphically intensive 3D games supposedly. I only have Zelda so I haven't tested that out for myself.

I don't mind the delays if they're really needed. I don't want Mania to be bad.

Aaand here's a prototype of sonic 1 that the act 2 mountains are referenced from.

EDIT: apparently that first pic was a hoax someone made, but these are the real ones:

Purple enemy dude can be seen in this very early concept art:

We don't need to have that dialogue because it's obvious, trivial, and has already been had a thousand times.
I am looking forward to Sonic Maria, Sonic and friends' quest through time to save one little girl and reverse the grim, gritty backstory of one of his greatest rivals.

Same. Well, it was a pack that had S2 and Quackshot (which is also very very good) but S2 was the first one I played of the two.

Sometimes to relax I try Sonic 2 and 3 with the same inputs. I usually get stuck on Aquatic Ruin 1 and Hydrocity 2 though. Special and bonus stages help but kind of feel like cheating.

I'm just glad that Sonic Mania is adding new characters in the form of the mini-bosses. They're not huge, new characters like the 3D games so they'll placate "Sonic has too many friends" types, while still being something fresh that adds to the universe. I was worried Mania would just be a nostalgia trip and not add anything significant.

Additionally, Sega also shared some details on a new boss in Sonic Mania. Part of Eggman’s “Hard-Boiled Heavies” arsenal, the “Heavy Gunner” is armed with a rocket launcher and appears at the end of the Hollywood-inspired Studiopolis Act 1. This enemy is described as “a large, decorated robot who can take to the sky with his helicopter.”

Try the Master System versions. I couldn't get past the ant lion boss in 2 until I played that version. They're actually both cool little games in their own right and not just cheap 8bit cash-ins.

Not for Sonic, but there have been a few TAS of Megaman games that beat 4 games using the same inputs for all of them.

Out of all the callbacks and nostalgia in that GHZ Act 2 video, honestly the thing that made me feel the most like "This is it, they've got olde tyme Sonic right" is AI Tails dying like a retard every five seconds.

It's usually a TAS thing. I've seen it for Mario and Megaman. Not sure if anyone has ever done one input for any full two games real time ever.

The best kinds of Sonic mini bosses are ones that either cut down a tree that has no branches which you can easily kill before it finishes the first one, or the kind in Casino Night where I'm struggling to describe what it's actually trying to do.

Destructoid's interview said that Mania would be 60:40 remixed:original. Considering that this is meant to have more zones than any past game and GHZ Act 2 shows remixed levels will have pretty large amounts of new art and mechanics, that sounds today fine.

That number isn't exactly new, though I wonder if they cut zones then.

But yeah GHZ Act 2 looks so different it's hardly a remix. It's sampling the chorus, using the same instruments and redoing the rest so to speak.

Also it looks so good. Argh. So good. Is it weird I really like Aaron Webber? That dude just seems to get it.

Even literally - apparently there's an Act 2 music mix they replaced with Act 1 for this demo so as to preserve the surprise.

The SMS versions are much better, including the fan port of Sonic Triple Trouble.

I kind of see the appeal but I don't enjoy the 8-bit Sonics. At least they're not too difficult.

They're on the Wii Virtual Console still if you want to buy them legitimately. I don't think they've ever been re-released officially anywhere else.

New record at Hill Top 1 / Marble Garden 1. Finishing Chemical Plant or even Aquatic Ruin 1 before Angel Island makes Hydrocity much easier. It's always possible to play for time in safer spots and levels, but since Sonic has a time limit, with Sonic 3 counting down faster, there is a bit of time management there.

They have good ideas, but even the kindest Sonic fan would have to admit that they are struggling desperately against the limitations of the hardware.

The fact you can only buy the Game Gear versions is infuriating though, especially since people have done quick and easy ports to the Master System.
