Better to deal with situations as they arise and use them as moments to spell out to students why it's better for them to confront ideas that they deem uncomfortable in a college setting, rather than shut themselves away from the world. Also, do it in a manner that is less confrontational. You sound triggered.

Polyamory is a need to never be alone and always have your emotional and personal needs met, a deep sense of entitlement and egotism, and constant self-validation. You could see how an overbearing parent would foster those characteristics
