Has anyone bought this for PC? What are your impressions? Any issues? Also what control scheme are you using, ie wireless 360 game pad all good?

It's stable, it loads a lot faster than last year, it's all around really good.

And they actually stored enough data serverside that cheating is a lot more difficult than it was in previous years. So basically its only flaws are shared by those on the other two systems. We'll get patches later than Xbox and PS4 but that's about it.

The only PC-related complaint I have is that the current Pro-AM system doesn't lend itself well to how people were playing Pro-AM games on PC: setting up steam groups, doing captain's draft and queuing up two teams at the same time. It'd be really great if they added in support to play friendly matches between two teams, or just add a captain's draft mode that you can invite friends to.

they need to standardize badge requirements or have someone go back in time and kill john stockton because the very idea of getting the HOF Dimer badge for a playmaker/point forward can go gently caress itself

You need like 1000 assists, it's no ankle breaker though

1200, and you can do it and anklebreaker at the same time but dear god it's a slog. Although I thought it was an additional 1200 assists after getting bronze. It's not, thankfully.

this is a hell of a thing:

https://mic.com/articles/168273/nba-2k-e-league-5-things-you-need-to-know-about-the-new-e-sports-league#.Ikr0T0YKd

quote:

Early on Thursday morning, Take-Two Interactive and the National Basketball Association announced a new competitive gaming initiative and partnership.

NBA 2K eLeague is a new eSports league that will begin operation in 2018. The news has both the competitive gaming and sports worlds buzzing. Here are five key things you need to know about NBA 2K eLeague.

NBA 2K eLeague: It'll be played on NBA 2K18

Most fans of the NBA 2K series already have NBA 2K17. While it makes sense for those with aspirations of competing in this groundbreaking league to hone their 2K skills on the latest edition of the game, it's important to note, the competition doesn't begin until 2018.

There's almost no chance 2K Sports will want games to be contested on an older version. So we expect NBA 2K18 to be optimized for the competitive gaming platform that is being created.

NBA 2K eLeague: This is not a 1v1 competition

Many 2K fans prefer to play MyTEAM or Play Now Online where they control an entire team against another user who controls another squad. While that's a fun way to play, it's not the format for the NBA 2K eLeague.

"The founding teams, each composed of five professional eSports players who will play the game as user-created avatars, will be announced in the coming months," states the official press release.

Essentially, this equates to five MyPlayers — or 5v5 gameplay — which can be seen in 2K Pro-Am and MyPARK.

NBA 2K eLeague: The league is operated by the NBA

For the first time ever, an American sports league is operating an eSports league. That means real NBA franchises will run the teams.

The NBA's involvement in the project speaks to its faith in the future of eSports, and the strength of its partnership with Take-Two Interactive. The partnership also strengthens the chances of the business venture becoming a success. The NBA will undoubtedly have a vested interest, and therefore should provide as much commercial support and visibility as any other American eSports organization.

NBA 2K eLeague: Only expert players need to apply

Almost everyone who plays NBA 2K believes they're really good at the game. With just five spots (and potential alternates) available, membership in this organization is likely to be even more select than the real NBA.

If you're going to be in this league, you had better be more than just a neighborhood 2K giant. After all, it's a league that will be opened to players from around the world.

NBA 2K eLeague: This is a real job

This isn't a glorified exhibition of a hobby. This is going to be a real job for the players who are drafted and signed.

This means, there will be salaries, contracts, etc. All those parents who tell their kids gaming is a waste of time may have to reconsider their argument.

So PC players are definitely excluded from this. Hopefully this means better support for Pro-Am at least.

It's also an incredibly broken game, bringing money and actual stakes into the equation seems like a recipe for a complete shitshow

Yeah no offense to the 2k guy posting in here but I don't really trust 2k to pull it off. Keep in mind I'm a PC player so...

That being said with a lot of money riding on it maybe it'll force them to do things like upgrade the servers so they don't go to poo poo every time there's an event and serious work is put into character builds to discourage the worst abuses of the system. More support for ProAM, the best game mode, is good.

Also the ~rumour~ has it that MyPark is going to be gone in 2k18, although I don't really believe it.

NBA Live is supposed to have a demo out in August.

2K seems pretty terrible at marketing their basketball game (maybe because they don't really have to?) and only starts putting out info a few weeks before release -- at least it seems like it's been that way for the last two games.

I've finally given up on the absolutely dire PC version and am switching over to PS4 if Live doesn't offer a decent alternative (it probably wont).

I will say that I do like the archetype system that Live and 2k are both going for, and I imagine 2k18 is going to have a more refined version of what we got in 2k17. But they really need a split between online and MyCareer characters -- grinding for points and stats in the gym to play online is insanely dumb.

I hate 2k's archtype for players. I hate how loving multiplayer balancing torches my ability to be an athletic point guard who can shoot too.

I don't give a flying gently caress about multiplayer. Let me play a wing who can both dunk and maybe make an outside shot. Let me be a super star like player.

For sure, split multiplayer and singleplayer into two different character sets.

I hope 2k does something similar. I want to go to MyPark with my female myplayer and dunk on nerds.

There's some streamer invitation where info is being tweeted out: https://www.reddit.com/r/NBA2k/comments/6rdosy/2k18_gameplay_dev_feedback_session_megathread/

Things so far
  • Vertical shot meter like in NBA Live, you can customize the colours
  • Baseline cheese results in 50/50 fouls or TOs
  • Speed boosting toned down a little bit
