3 months ago i went on a tirade to everyone i know about how Bon Apetit was racist by forcing the minorities to share bullshit versions of their homeland recipes while white people got to make whatever bullshit they wanted with whatever stupid poo poo sumac ingredients they had and they were racist and everyone looked at me like I was insane. They Still think I'm crazy!

You get called crazy, nuts, over reactive, and a lot of how could you say this or that. For all of the BIPOCs out there, if you sense that there is racism somewhere trust your gut, and stick with it and find out if justice is possible. It should have been more obvious to others that a youtube channel in which every white person with a show gets to do whatever the gently caress they want, and the other minorities at best get to demonstrate a disrespectful version of their home meals is probably racist. I should have been more vocal about it. I should have protested the channel sooner. I should have trusted my instincts of how racist america is, especially in the food industry where the faces of white people are put on display while the minorities do the real labor.

That dull droning was clearly observing the biases that the channel had, not just regarding who is and isn't there, but also who does what out of the people who are there, and I just set it aside because I thought the videos were fun and I picked up some recipes, but clearly that all has a price, and that price is "loving over BIPOC". It sucks and I need to do better. There's systemic issues there and if you think it's pay related you would have to be loving blind at this point.

It's hard to be mad at Brad. Him and Vinnie kinda kicked off the whole thing, and it was a dumb idea on paper a loving fermentation show with a guy who can barely form a full sentence? There's no way that shoulda worked. But I mean, if you're at the point where you're a chris morocco and you get your own show from a concept that was clearly work shopped in the back to use his super secret powers while literally nobody of color has a show, then yeah it's easy to be mad. It's easy to be mad if you're making Kim chi, or loving MAKING A SOUP DUMPLING or you can go on and on and on that something shoulda been done. Yes we can be mad at white people for standing on our backs and shining, and not considering that they didn't leave any room for loving made for TV and white people star Priya to have her own dumb cooking show where she calls her dad every week to get the scoop on how she used to eat.

I used to work in payroll at a Fortune 500 retailer with like 200,000 employees and I had no idea what my coworkers made. At best the managers know what their employees make and that’s by design. Also that would be just the base salary. None of that would include things like the tillamook tour/branding commercial Brad did or , THE BOOKOO BUCKS CLAIR MAKES FOR THE CHANNEL DOING sometimes and hour long commercial for whatever candy. I genuinely don’t think people are puting into perspective how much money Clair makes, or how gourmet makes works

It was mentioned they have basically a branding team that gets them brand deals, and that the people with shows are paid significantly more. It’s safe to assume they have a base salary for the magazine job and have extra incentives to do have long form videos, especially if they’re branded. Again Claire makes the suuuuuper big bucks I promise you.
