I mean hell, Elite has been battling the PVP salt for how long now? Half the playerbase refuses to play in "online" mode for fear of getting griefed, and they don't even have the nifty feature of being able to run around and shoot guns at each other. There's a huge disconnect with the Citizens who all like to shout that goons demanded refunds because CIG wouldn't let them turn the game into an EVE-style greifing paradise, because even as it stands now Star Citizen is far more conducive to greifing than almost any other game out there, and in fact that's the only fun thing to do in the game.

I'm pretty sure he wanted to stick up for people that don't have a typical range of movement, control, etc. The presenter's joy was misplaced. His initial question really cut to the heart of it, but what is it for?

The issue here is that he, like Anno, seems to have decided that anime is to blame for society's ills and indicated that dedicating his life to the industry was a mistake. It's hard to say how much they believe it. Anno's been far more vehement about it, but he's got the massive disappointment of NGE on his shoulders, and has probably been extremely depressed for a long time. Miyazaki tends to be extremely brutal in his critiques, ignoring the fact that the modern industry is so heavily based on corporate control and profitseeking that trash is just about all that can be turned out unless you're very lucky or have resources from being one of the old prodigies.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't there a bit of a fiasco with Elite:Dangerous as well? If I recall correctly, the original kickstarter promised no expansion packs, all future content was to be free. Then they realized they needed more money and so they tried to release Elite : Dangerous *horizons* as a totally-not-an-expansion-pack-it's-a-standalone-game-honest. The big difference beyond basic competence seems to be that Elite: Dangerous still has fans willing to call them on bullshit. People openly complained about things, and the white knights can't drown them out, so things get fixed.

This is true. You could say it's a lot about personality and not being too weird. Some weird is ok, but there's a level of weird that's hard to explain.

I guess it's like going to a movie alone, sitting alone and getting angry nobody is coming to sit and talk to you, and then leaving thinking everybody hates you. But it was a loving movie and people went to see the movie not meet new people and sit with random strangers.

I feel like the biggest thing some people to do is go get a job around other people (like a call center or something), or go volunteer anywhere for anything. If you even just barely kinda casually talk to people and don't start off a conversation with "do you like me and want to be my boy/girlfriend?" you're literally going to meet people.

The best thing to realize is that whichever gender you are, or are interested in, probably close to half the world is that gender (though it may reduce depending on what precisely you're looking for).

But a general heterosexual relationship can be had almost just by breathing and talking to people.

If you're not talking, you're not doing it right. Bitching about women on the Internet isn't going to land you a girl.

But this probably isn't the relationship thread so there's that. Star Citizen is like that guy bitching on the Internet that women suck, but he secretly wants nothing more than to be hugged by a woman who is not his mother who cares for him. It's that Catch 42 thing.

People sometimes end up isolated to the point where meeting anyone is difficult. Happened to me, combination of mental illness and moving around a lot. It's not an easy thing to cope with, and obviously lots of people choose 'solutions' that are varying degrees of bad. Deciding that all women are mentally inferior whores who are simply incapable of recognizing your greatness seems to be a popular way of dealing with it. My point is it's not a matter of a relationship being easy. It is a matter of how the individual in question copes with it being hard. Some people give up and shut themselves away, and some people decide to throw a massive lifelong public fit.
