We've been stuck in this weeaboo hell for some long, I've completely forgotten about some plot on other planet. Furry trump, assassin's guild (because of course there is), and some kind of mayor's race to become god king? This are things that happened right? Also, I know you could just hand wave it away by saying that the planets are tied together cause of the "plot" but it really bothers me that we have "Earth" as one planet and "Terra" as another. There is lazy and there is whatever the hell this is. I'm working on getting certified to teach and I just turned in a 6 weeks lesson plan on why we use talking animals to discuss humanity. After reading this, I just feel like I contributed to the problem. I just wanted to talk about how awesome Watership Down is...

The longer I look at the King, the less sense it makes. Dreadlocks on a furry? What the hell is going on with his tail, is there a bit by his right shoulder and its looping around to the front on the left? What is this?

To be fair, making the mayor into an immortal God-King would get people(animals?) to care about local elections. Not these people mind you, the entire cast so far has been bafflingly dumb. Except Velasquez is immortal because time flows differently on this world for him so if I read the update right (I don't and won't) so the next mayor-king-emperor would not be immortal which seems like it would disqualify them for the position. Ugh, thinking about this silly plot is painful How are these even near equivalent? How will I return to my planet alongside how will I find out how the world mourns a pop idol?

blankd posted:Other projects that I've seen that allow self-inserts tend to have the character dress up appropriately if they have significant screen time. Due to the amount of extra resources needed to work with the backer and achieve a compromise with the work, this is why self-inserts are almost always the topmost reward tiers. Seeing so many is baffling at best and infuriating at worst. I'm starting to think the backers were just paying to have a reasonably talented artist do a pin-up art of their raved out fursonas and did not give a not a lot of consideration to where/how the character would appear in the story. I mean, the artist is proficient even if the art is just so bland and tasteless. All the piercings and belts and neon colors strikes me as such "Special Snowflake" thing that I just end up rolling my eyes or recoiling back in horror like with that day-glow pony thing. blankd posted:Wish granted. Anoia posted:I'm kinda afraid to know the answer to this, but is there fan art/fiction for this game? And if so, did the fursona owners get mad about it? A trip to E621.net showed a single picture of a rabbit (with either really silly hairspikes or 4 ears so who knows) doing a facepalm saying the game is awful when I searched for Major/minor. That was heartening. Less so when I searched for one of the characters and remember that these were fan "characters" and found porn cause its E621 so I immediately stopped. So I guess fan art exists in that pictures of the characters loving probably existed before the game. Crazy Ferret fucked around with this message at 16:44 on Dec 28, 2016 |

I have literally no idea of what is going on at this point but I'm glad that the Female Wolf/Fox/Dog character is going Super Saiyan. What else could that ridiculous blonde hair style mean? That's usually a sign the story should pick up and there is gonna be a cool fight. Whew! I was worried for a bit.

Night10194 posted:The reason Furry poo poo is almost universally awful is simple: Look at how much acclaim this piece of poo poo got on Steam by its players just for BEING furry. They don't demand anything better than something that hits the sparkledog buttons, so why would the stuff they get ever rise above it? Its identity as a furry thing is all that it needs to have a niche fanbase that will make it do well enough to make another lovely game. I agree with you here to an extent. This is poo poo and survives because its niche market will always throw money around just because it caters to them. The Christian movie market, anime, etc etc are all perfect examples of being able to carve out a profitable niche. That said, I can't help but say "of course, they should try to be good. Isn't that the point?" I am doing a lot of spring cleaning and found one of my hardback books of the comic, Mouse Guard. Its a bunch of stylized mice having adventures in a medieval setting, though they are literally mice sized so a snake is basically a D&D dragon to them. Its great, fun, and drawn in a very neat, stylized setting. The mice are very similar looking but the artist takes time to characterize them in simple ways so you always know who is who. Its a good example of anthropomorphic animals being used in a cool way. I know I posted about creating a lesson plan around the book, Watership Down, and that book is just fantastic and is compromised of nothing but animal characters. I get your point, i just don't like the idea that sub-genre should be poo poo because its sub-genre, no need to try hard. It feels so self-defeating.

Night10194 posted:I mean, I spent all that time writing that Ironclaw review someone else linked earlier because I think the stuff that IS good should get exposure, because of course stuff shouldn't be bad just because it can get away with it. Ahh, I did not make the connection when I read through that writeup earlier that you were the author of the post. It was really good. Truth be told, I own that book somewhere in my collection. Bought during some random flash in the pan moment at a game store plus I have an acquaintance with one of the artists, albeit minor. I generally like Ironclaw for the same reason I like talking animals as a setting for fantasy RPGs in that Humans and Semi-humans (the majority of elves, dwarfs, so forth) are boring, and having a bunch of mechanically different animals races is so much more interesting. It also taps into that reason I like RPGs and Fantasy in general. I am a human and that's all well and good, but when I choose to make believe, I want to really reach out and do something different. Ironclaw is cool and that write up reminded me as to why is was cool. Cheers! It helped me through a very boring day at work. To be honest, I agree with much of your post. I merely wanted to make a point that saying a sub-genre work is (or should be) a lame cash-in of that relevant genre is self defeating. The point you made regarding Christian movies was appropriate. They do well and are profitable. I am the complete antithesis of their audience so I avoid them and think little of them. That said, I would still appreciate it if they tied to be good movies in and of their own right. I think we are more in agreement than not so I apologize if I came across as otherwise. I just wanted to make a point that furry stuff CAN be good, but this "visual novel" is most certainly not and that's its own drat fault, not the genre as a whole.

Yay! It's back! gently caress, it's back and I gotta read some of this dribble. The interview section is breaking my brain in how bad it is to introduce a character's job. Why would a reporter just stop someone in the street to talk about their job in the Arms industry? Why would she consent to talk about this if she had to include phrases like "No harm will come to your citizens." and "Its not my fault if my weapons are misused."? How do you type this nonsense with your ham hands? All I can think of is Krunk from Emperor's New Groove doing his little theme song bit.

Every update is the written equivalent of getting hit the face with a hammer. You'd think you would start getting numb but here comes another hammerblow to the forehead! Inumi is really the first time this game has made me feel uncomfortable. Like, why is he here? What purpose does he serve? His shameful backstory is as everyone has said just useless sadsack nonsense that does little to develop him other than "Aww look at how SAD he is!". He is window dressing for a character not even in the game and is, so far, completely pointless to the already stupid, convoluted plot. The fact that he is dressed up like a Hot Topic fever dream does not help. Like, I can "understand" the rest of the characters as being someone's fursona drawn in a style that, while shameful, makes sense that someone from that community would want to pay for it. Inumi just makes me feel grossed out by his inclusion accordingly. anilEhilated posted:I mean there's Mary Suing and there's... this, writing yourself a cult of personality. krisslanza posted:What actually has Inumi done in M/M? We may not like Kila, but he at least had some level of importance to the overall plot... I think the only thing Inumi has done, for the actual story, is be really bad at math, so there's this amazing, magical "formula" to go on about. The things he does with Klace are barely important when the actual character never shows up in the game. All I remember is that he suddenly appeared in the limo ride as if he emerged from between the seat covers. Outside of skeevy appearance, He serves no other purpose. That said, he is hardly the only character in this story to be guilty of that crime. Curus's mentions they are brothers and that just puts me even less at ease. Ugh. Still...
