They instantly instinctly react by trying to push the opposing player out of the crease. But once that player falls down the defencemen's brain gets caught in a loop and they'll try to shove the player down and away. Requires a linesman to reset them once they get stuck in that mode.

Depends on where the Leafs see their window, imo. After next year he's going to cost significantly more for the same or worse on-ice product. If they're going to make a go for it he's a great value player at the moment, if they see themselves competing 3-4 years from now then you should move him soon to maximize the return.
