HMV is closing. They're the last record/DVD store we have here, aside from places like Walmart or Best Buy.

They've been on a decline for a while, and were overpriced for a lot of things, but I'm still a little sad to see them go. It was always convenient to head to their store during lunch if there was something I wanted to get.

Also, that sucks. Do you have a local used record store? At mine, I was able to buy a new copy of Chimes at Midnight for $13 the other day.

There's a good used record store near work, but for music I've only bothered buying digital for almost 10 years now.

As far as used DVD/Blu, it's pretty much just pawn shops at this point. There's online garage sale sites too, like VarageSale or Kijiji.
Ah sucks. I guess I'm just blessed enough to live in an area with a few of great physical media stores nearby. I've switched to digital music/books/comics, but still prefer physical when it comes to movies and video games. With loyalty programs/trade ins/coupons, I'm able to regularly get great deals on blurays. I'm usually able to find what I'm looking for between Bookmans/Zia Records and Half Price Books.

Movies recorded on VHS from TV would make for a good thread topic. I remember watching Wallace and Gromit hundreds of times, as well as Pete's Dragon. We also had a copy of Toy Story we recorded by hooking two VCRs together.

It occurs to me that you could probably make a feature-length supercut of every depiction of the JFK assassination in film and tv.

On that note, I kinda wondered, if tasked to make a super movie of American history from say the Revolutionary war until 2015, using existing movies, how long that movie would be and what movies would be used.

Edit: this could actually be its own thread.

Isn't obscure stuff made kinda hard by the way torrenting works? Other people have to be trying to get it too, etc.

This is probably towing the line of what's acceptable to talk about, but it's not a real movie so I'll risk it.

A few years ago, I was looking for an episode of something, and I saw a torrent for something weird and completely unrelated to my search. It was called "Lard of the Rings." I had no idea what to expect.

It ended up being a weird comedy recut of Fellowship of the Ring. It was as if someone made a YTMND feature length film. Some parts were legitimately funny, like in the original movie, they bravely fight the balrog on that bridge. In the recut, it shows the balrog appear and then cuts to Gandalf yelling "run!" There was a lot of added in, and often crude effects added in, like a brake sound effect whenever Gandalf slowed down his horses.

I lost the file and it seems to have disappeared from the internet, so maybe I hallucinated the whole thing.

Grand Canyon State.

For an Urban Studies class, my final was a hypothetical city project with an unlimited budget. Since I had an unlimited budget, I figured I didn't need to be practical with my hypothetical city project. I chose to tear down down the dying Metrocenter Mall, and turn it into a thriving park. To symbolize the area's resurrection, in the center of this park would have been a man made lake with a small island in the center. In the island, would be a 100 foot statue of a phoenix. It's beak would point to the sky and every hour, on the hour, it would create a piercing, shrieking "KAAAAW" and waves of flame would erupt from it's maw. Then, every ten years, it would be demolished and rebuilt 50% larger.

I got 100% on that final.
