The semiannual nonstop week-long PG-rated charity speedrunning event sponsored by http://twitch.tv and http://theyetee.com. Twice every year we get a whole 156 hours of big thick juicy speedrunning action! Donations will (as every year) be benefitting the Prevent Cancer Foundation, which does stuff about cancer. THREAD RULESOnly one: SUCK IT DOWN™  FAQ Why did it take so long for them to finally do a live DAIKATANA run? Because prior to this past March, it was effectively impossible. Recently the DAIKATANA 1.3 fanpatch made it so you could play singleplayer without sidekick characters. Since getting sidekicks to the end of the level was a time consuming RNG heavy cat-wrangling nightmare, it made runs in Singleplayer mode impossible. The previous solution was to run the game in Co-Op with only one player. The problem with this however is that it requires you to go into the menu and select the next level whenever you finish a level; there would be too much menuing for a proper live run and all runs were segmented before this. Now that we can finally leave without our buddy Superfly, DAIKATANA is opened up for speedruns. I thought DAIKATANA was a legendarily terrible game, why should I be excited for the speedrun? Being able to leave without your buddy Superfly dramatically reduced the awfulness of DAIKATANA; as dealing with the terrible side-kick AI was a large portion of the awfulness of DAIKATANA. Now you would still have to contend with poorly designed levels that are at best boring, but if you're speedrunning you can just ignore that! I've actually done a few attempts at speedrunning DAIKATANA and it's actually a really fun speedgame. Lots of different skips, Out-of-bounds stuff but not too much that there isn't actual gameplay, and lot's of cool movement-tech like rocketjumps and shotcycler surfing. What runs are happening this year? This year most runs can be divided into three catagories: runs you've already seen, runs you don't even want to see, and John Romero's DAIKATANA. Any runs that will not fit into those catagories? DOOM and Hitman: Blood Money. Sadly Hitman is at like 4:30, so you'll probably end up catching it on the VOD. There's also gonna be some TASBot stuff that will probably be fun. If there by some miracle are other good runs, how will I know which ones to watch? Other people in the thread will be kind enough to tell you. Also Why are they doing a Fire Emblem run? You would think they would have learned. Be glad they aren't doing a MineCraft run this year. How do I make sure my donation gets read? Come up with a good cancer related sob-story. Tell them about how your second-cousin's sister-in-law died of prostate cancer. Why so many Jermans? A bunch of Krauts kept donating with the post scriptum of "Greetings from Germany." It ended up becoming a meme and now everyone adds "Greetings from Germany" at the end of their donation message. Should I get hyped? No. But you should  Why is Blundefail the finale? They always end on a JRPG. However why they chose Undertale and not Anachronox is beyond me. Can you make this one stupid, unneeded and unfunny change to the OP? If you've read my BF1 or FE:Fates threads then you should be familiar with how this works. I will let you add, remove or alter one line in the OP if you can beat me in a 1v1 Deathmatch in DAIKATANA. You must already own the game and have the fanpatch installed. Unironically some stuff about Livestreamer would be good in the OP since it will be relevant and requested. I dunno if they fixed the plugin for browsers yet but Livestreamer GUI should work just fine.

Kinda conflicted on the schedule. On the one hand I like seeing some titles that either haven't been present before or deviate from the standard speed running mold but it feels like they've dropped games that have been overplayed recently for games that have been overplayed forever to allow room for some alternatives. Things I'm looking forward to: The Turing Test Salt and Sanctuary Sega Bass Fishing - Because WTF Doom (2016) Hyper Light Drifter Titan Souls Furi Dark Souls 3 - Only because I've yet to see a speedrun of DS3 Things that I wish were there: Races. Both Binding of Isaac and Crypt of the Necrodancer have had awesome race events in the past. Binding of Isaac - Maybe the expansion is just too new, but really surprised to see nothing The Division Survival Mode - Probably hard to setup for since you have to be online and wait for a queue, but could have easily filled an hour to hour and a half with two full games or several attempts. Also maybe too new. Super Hot Don't Starve - Probably too random for the format Things notably absent: Tetris and Final Fantasy - Only one game event for each series. Btw does anyone need help setting up Livestreamer? It's a plugin that lets you pipe in twitch streams into VLC, MPC, etc. I like it cause my player will equalize audio so I'm not waking up the dead every time there is an applause break after sick skipz
