Fundamentals as sound as the WNBA

Do you love fights where you know who is fighting and kind of care about the results! Do you love interim titles? Do you hate big stars like Conor, Ronda and MMM Jon Bones Jones The GOAT? Then you will love this season of the Goonweight GP! We've been on a bit of a hiatus due to the fact that the only major cards in January and February kind of blew interest wise (and fight wise for 208.) But this weekend's card is good as heck so let us do this!

Mr. Carlisle dominated Season 23 of the Goonweight GP, holding such a commanding lead going into the final card it was virtually impossible for anyone to get close let alone win. Can he replicate his performance?

About the Goonweight GP

Welcome to Season 24 of the Goonweight GP! Every other week or so you'll see a new UFC card posted, you'll post your picks, then you'll watch the show and have more fun because some guy you've never heard of can net you an extra point if he can finish this before the end of the second round. You'll have even more fun when the judges rob someone and you get points for that. It's even better if everyone at your party hates the guy you need to win.

A few days before every card, I'll post the fights on the main card with a FORM and a SPREADSHEET. Fill out the form (or post you picks in the thread), and then check the spreadsheet to make sure your picks are in there correctly. When the card is over and I stop being lazy, I'll calculate the results and post standings.

CERTIFIED RULES OF THE GRAND PRIX

  • Picks can be submitted via the Form, or in the thread, though I prefer you do both.
  • If a fight is called off after the form is posted no points will be awarded.
  • Picks must be submitted before the start of the Main Card to be eligible. Picks submitted after that point are considered null and void. Please pay attention to time zones, especially for European cards.
  • Same goes if you edit a post with picks in it after the main card starts.
  • If you wish to change your picks before the main card starts, make a separate post in the thread and I'll update the Form for you.
  • Points for each match are scored as follows
    • 3 points for picking the winner correctly
    • If you picked the correct winner, 1 bonus point for calling the round the fight finished
    • If you picked the correct winner, 1 bonus point for calling the method of finish (KO or Sub or Decision)
    • A fight that end in decision is not considered ending in a round
    • "OTNs" are given out for correctly picking the Fight, and the two Performances of the Night. These award no points, but are used to break a tie at the end of the season
    • On each card you can pick two POTN. If you pick the same person twice, I'll manually delete one.
  • Commission reserves the right to award no points for a fight based on really weird situations
  • Whoever has the highest combined score at the end of the season wins!

Too confusing? Please consult this handy flowchart to determine your score for a fight:

Here is the current season lineup:

SEASON TWENTY FOUR

Upcoming Cards

UFC 209: 3/4/17
UFC Fight Night 106: 3/11/17
UFC 210: 4/8/17
UFC on Fox: 4/15/17
UFC 211: 5/13/17
UFC Fight Night 109: 5/28/17
UFC 212: 6/3/17

That's right, another SEVEN CARD SEASON! I'm skipping several cards in that period because there are a few minor cards that would make 3 weeks in a row of cards. This does leave a couple gaps but allows us to start and finish on major cards.

Nystral wins the event and my suspicions were confirmed, turnout is WAY lower when I post more than a few days in advance. I don't know what it is, but if I post on a Wednesday or Thursday we get ~30 pickers, if I post a week ahead we get like 20.

That big showing gives Nystral a healthy lead going into week 4! We'll have the new card up shortly.

Nystral is dominating, but not so much that a comeback is impossible, or improbable. His challengers all have more OTNs than him too. The RNG is in 4th so there's alot of people getting humiliated this season! Best Fight Odds is also way down there, so we've been seeing more upsets than usual. Given the card this weekend that seems possible again.

Form will be up mid-week!
