Welcome back, Yooper!

I'm going to abstain from this vote, actually, because I have no idea how spotting under the new system works mechanically. If our aircraft are having a hard time spotting ground targets, then it's possible both drones would fail at spotting targets too. OTOH, the ground spotting model had occasional issues in CMANO as well.

The accuracy of the CMO model is much more beyond CMANO in regards to terrain. A lot of the time our "hidden" units were actually generated by lua as our ridiculous Gorgon Stare would see them 100 nm away. Now though you can take a tank, stick it in an urban terrain type and have a pretty difficult time detecting it. I like it.

As far as capabilities, I tested the Reaper, Sperwer, and random mobiles and each is able to detect these hostiles. The Reaper is the best, Sperwer is OK, tour bus operators are tour bus operators.

C. Tour bus operators.

The airborne recon platforms are going to have similar limitations in seeing people in dense brush/cover.
Sperwer and specifically Gorgon stare are no longer going to be an overpowered eye of everything that sees all on this flat terrainless surface that was CMANO.

And more importantly, we have used them before and have some prior experience of utilising them .

What what we don't have is any meaningful experience in using ground recon assets in CMO. What we need is data and to be learning lessons on how effective ground operations/recon are. This is an early mission, worth using some ground recon tour bus assets to test the waters.

Plus it's more entertaining than the same planes that we have used before ad nauseam

Accounting is quite pleased! The choice of using local tour bus operators buys us good will, local knowledge, and all for bargain basement prices. Squadron Ops is debating the logic of the decision but it's OK. I trust the right decision was made.

We'll have three operators.

Area #1 will be covered by Fenyang and his team of professionals from "Lion Love LLC".

Next up is Onalenna, a plucky young operator who is going to cover area #2, the deepest part of the wilderness.

Lastly we have "Big Boss" and his passenger delivery service. They'll cover area #3.

Lastly we've had some troubling news coming out Angola. Not exactly sure what is going on but some of our contacts have gone dark while others have been arrested. We're keeping a close eye on the situation. Jack, Our Man in Washington, is currently unavailable in Thailand.

I'll adjust the mission a bit as our planes have short legs. Once detected the appropriate patrol will go in and strike. Otherwise they'll just run out of gas and it'll be the most boring mission ever. I may stream it or I may just record it. I have a new cat and it is proving to be destructive, so a green screen may not last.

I've got to edit the beginning bits so you'll see the video uploaded tomorrow.

Two of the three objectives were completely knocked out. The third sustained critical damage and is as good as gone. Additionally 4 HN-5B teams are down along with a CH-500 UCAV, a Technical, and a BMP-2.

Our losses were steep. No way around it. A group of bogeys made for the CIA marked aircraft and our Lightnings went to investigate. Almost within fist-fight distance the Hornets opened fire.

LOSSES:
-------------------------------
5x Lightning F.6
2x Mi-24P Hind F
1x Su-17M-2 Fitter D

On the plus side we knocked out two of the F/A 18 Hornets. Incoming intel is saying it's a group called "Hobarts' Hornets" out of Skokie Illinois. Either way the Bombarider jet landed safely in South America somewhere.

On the downside Quinntan knocked out the Chobe Bridge. And hoo boy, did it come down hard. The only benefit is we were able to catch some of the volunteers and get a good interrogation. On the downside our three digit PR budget is now maxxed out.

Our flight line is swamped with busted rear end aircraft. Maintenance has just pushed them off into the dust to slowly die alongside some ancient prop planes. Corporate is re-evaluating the current budget model. This was excessive, beyond what even they saw as acceptable. We'll work on them and see if we can up the budget for our next procurement round.

On the down side the news out of Angola isn't looking good. A military junta has deposed the people we used to work for. They also booted out the Apple, Tesla, Facebook, and everyone else that buys lithium. The details are still hazy so we'll keep you folks informed. BBC is reporting coups in Tanzania, Nigeria, Madagascar, Guinea, Cameroon and, of course, the Congo. Egypt looked to have dodged a bullet and taken out the coup before it came to bear.

More to come Hired Goons! For now, get your bags packed and catch the flight out to HG HQ in Gjader.

We've got procurement.

Our last cargo planes were barely wheels up when the coup really got rolling. We're not sure how much is a coup, how much is persuasion, and how much is straight up governments rolling over and playing dead. After seeing democratic norms breakdown in the rest of the world, it's no surprise Africa took it to 11.

In a surprise move the nations of Angola, Congo, Tanzania, Cameroon, Nigeria, and Guineau walked out of the United Nations. Instead a single representative took her place and raised a flag right on the UN floor. ORMEC. The Organization of Rare Metal Exporting Countries. One voice sought to speak for all of Africa. Much like OPEC did for the Middle East and oil in the 20th century, ORMEC seeks to do it for Africa in the 21st.

And in a move that surprised no one, those dependent on the lithiums, cobalts, iridiums, and niobiums of the world just let it happen. Politicians denounced the move, but were committed to a "diplomatic" solution. Read that as "don't stop our shipments." Interestingly enough corporate assets were seized including half a Squadron of Tesla F-22's, the Zumwalt, and a pack of Facebook Rafale's.

While the flag is one of pan-africanism, this poo poo started to fall apart after about 24 hours. ORMEC claimed to speak for all of Africa. Until South Africa spoke up and gave them a giant middle finger. Then came Kenya and the neighboring states. This was followed by Egypt, Tunisia, and Morocco. Then came reports of Congo seizing some Angolan mining assets.

Then the phone calls started. Namibia inquired about a retainer. This was followed by an escort request from Gabon. Next came Kenya asking for airstrikes against Tanzanian mining infrastructure. Corporate took over negotiations but this is going to be big. With the UN out of the picture many of our restrictions on aircraft and weaponry has been rescinded or isn't valid.

All of the tech companies are publicly denouncing and privately grovelling. Further vindication came when the CEO of a certain un-named tech company stated that "Unless these minerals flow our stock prices will fall to single digits." The stock market took note and it was the worst single day of trading since 2008. 24 hours later ORMEC released a statement comitting to the shipments, but not before buying huge quantities of shares and making 20% profits in a day.

Corporate has said to get ready. This is the greatest money making opportunity since Angola.

I'm not sure what's on the table yet. Representatives are flying in from K&P, BFLM, and Ivanov. Corporate is keeping it under wraps while they negotiate for numbers. We can assume the need for a multi-purpose airframe capable of a wide range of missions. Africa is big. But the potential for profits is even bigger.

HR is handing out a pamphlet on bonus, retention, and how to respond when other PMC's attempt to recruit you. The job market is scorching hot right now and we'd really like to keep this team together.

PICK ONE

I just came out of the meeting with the suppliers and investors. It seems the profit potential in this theater is substantial. As in ridiculous money. People keep throwing out words like "proxy war" and "retainer" and "permanent presence". I'm just happy to see something that doesn't smell like 3d printer resin or old socks.

Once we pick the flagship squadron we'll move on to attack aircraft (potentially 3d printed), then support assets.

A conglomerate of insurance companies is backing these airframes as well. The losses are audited so as long as we aren't dumb about it they'll cover them.

To clarify on the BASE PACKAGE - Those are always available. If we purchase the F-15I we can always acquire Python 4's and GBU-39's from ISARM. Most other munitions are available except the LIMITED category or other specialty munitions. It may be available, it may not. Nor can we purchase and stockpile it like toilet paper and of course no one is going to buy back a used missile.

Make no mistake Hired Goons, this theater will be far more deadly. Our opponents will be new, and old, mercenary groups. Technically Angola isn't fighting Zimbabwe, but Hobart's Hornets is dogfighting Fokkers Falcons somewhere in Eastern Angola. The best part is both sides have the money to pay mercs to do the dirty work.

Feel free to ask any questions and I'll pass it along to the corporate reps.

Beyond the fact that I always want to try new and weird hardware over what we're used to, those Flankers can haul 6 SARH missiles plus 2 IR without going into the rare and expensive stocks, and while SARH isn't that great it's a hell of an advantage over IR-only.

What about these aircrafts' other loadouts? Are e.g. the Flankers' dumb bombs and rockets available? Or do we just get an enormous box of Alamos, Archers, and vodka and told to go nuts?

...on the plus side I'm feeling much more angry now than I expected so this totally helps me get in character.

quote:

[10:28 AM] TheDemon: hey @Yooper does the way these loadouts are set out mean we can use loadouts that have weapons like the AIM-120C-7 but we'll be using ammo availability to ensure those missiles aren't loaded up? Or should we assume entire loadouts that have AIM-120C-7 are restricted?
[10:30 AM] Yooper: I'll use ammo availability, otherwise I think it'll lock out a bunch of choices

Thank goodness, otherwise some of these planes would have literally no loadouts. I have excluded unexciting LGB and dumb bomb loadouts from my lists, and all loadouts on all planes are some degree of self-escorting with 2x heaters.

SU-35S Flanker E (2014) - cmano-db, baloogan
- Featured Loadouts:
A1. (BASE) SARH CAP: 2x Alamo C + 4x Alamo A + 2x Archer (10nm)
A2. (BASE maybe) SARH + IR CAP: 2x Alamo C, 2x Alamo A, 2x Alamo B, 2x Archer (10nm)
1. 2x AS-14 Khedge (6nm)
2. 2x KAB-1500Kr TV/EO (2nm)
3. 4x KAB-500Kr TV/EO (2nm)
4. 4x AS-17 Krypton C (60nm ARM)
X. (LIMITED) 6x Adder B + 2x Alamo B
- Problems: limited precision ground attack although better than the Gripen, limited heaters
- Features: night nav, probe refueling, 160nm radar, modern DECM on everything

I like the IR missiles, having a SARH option at all, and having a spammable ARM. In a fight against only heaters this plane would win hands down. If random ARH missiles pop up from time to time or if we mostly need to missile the poo poo out of tanks or something this plane has problems.

F-15I Eagle "RAAM" (2012) - cmano-db, baloogan
- Featured Loadouts:
A. (BASE) 4x Python 4 (10nm)
B. (BASE) 8x SDB
1. 2x Maverick EO (6nm)
2. 2x Maverick IR (8nm)
3. 2x GBU-15(v)1/b (15nm)
4. 1x GBU-28 Deep Throat (4nm 5000lb bunker buster)
5. 4x JDAM (12nm)
X. (LIMITED) 6x AIM-120C-7 + DECM Pod
- Problems: No Anti-Radiation Missiles.
- Features: night nav, boom refueling, 100nm radar

I love this plane and it is HG style. Don't underestimate making GBS threads out 96 SDBs then going RTB before anyone wakes up. The precision weapons are decent to good too and the Israelis have put on a lot of boom, but the lack of ARM is concerning.

F-16CM Blk 52 Falcon (2016) - cmano-db, baloogan
- Featured Loadouts:
A. (BASE) 6x AIM-9X Sidewinder (10nm) + DECM Pod + FLIR Pod
B. (BASE) 2x HARM
1. 2x JASSM
2. 2x Maverick IR (8nm)
3. 1x HARM + 2x Paveway
4. 8x JDAM (12nm)
5. 8x LJDAM (12nm)
6. 4x MALD (fancy decoys)
7. 2x WCMD (precision cluster bombs)
X. (LIMITED) 4x AIM-120D + DECM Pod + FLIR Pod
- Problems: the base aircraft is less capable, it is made usable by its loadouts. Very poor radar.
- Features: night nav, boom refueling, 60nm radar

The full might of the USAF with all the problems therein. May well be crippled by its difficulty detecting anything without ground radar and spotters. But the precision weapons available are to die for.

JAS 39D Gripen (2016) - cmano-db, baloogan
- Featured Loadouts:
A. (BASE) 6x IRIS-T (15nm)
B. (BASE) 2x RB-15F (80nm anti-ship missile)
1. 4x Maverick EO (6nm)
X. (LIMITED) 4x Meteor
- Problems: The anti-ground options leave a lot to be desired, but we have gotten by with only mavericks and dumb munitions in the past.
- Features: night nav, terrain following, probe refueling, 120nm radar

The HG classic minus some, it doesn't have SDBs or any other glide bombs, so it is limited to air superiority mostly. The IRIS-T compares well against every other heater in the competition, but that's about the only advantage this plane has.

ISARM is offering the best plane in the competition, with the right balance of quality and versatility that makes an aircraft usable for us. I think my second choice would be Ivanov for the sheer ability the Flankers will have in A2A against random junk. This Gripen is a trap choice. ALSO ISARM's F-15I is twin seat whereas the Flankers and F-16 are single seat.

But after some consideration I am going to vote for Ivanov to acquire A2A capability.
