Dude. We actually need to stop the IC from taking and holding Triton base.

If they achieve orbital superiority above the base to land troops then any ground based assets are just going to be nuked from orbit.

If they want Triton base intact then they won't use orbital strikes.

Furthermore given distances involved if they get on with a ground assault I doubt our Mobile Infantry are going to be able to hold them off long enough for reinforcements to arrive.

Also consider, if we did hold them off long enough for the cavalry to be spotted (3 weeks out), they could well just slag the base from orbit at that point to deny it to us.

Which body is closer to Neptune at this point in time? Both look about the same wrt defenses so proximity to our base should be the deciding factor.

Saros, are we able to cold launch missiles? I was thinking maybe we could pre-launch a ton of them on a kinetic trajectory towards a harvester or civilian facility then time our actual strike to coincide with impact. Or does the Aurora system need active sensors to paint the missiles in?

I feel like the Terrans, if they really wanted to, could just take Saturn outright but they probably need the pretext of a friendly coup in order for it to not look super sketch. So if they get here and find IC still in control, but just a faction of it that happens to favor a peace favorable to us, what do they do? If they find IC technically in charge but with no infrastructure, what do they do?

In the first case, I think they back off (because an outright attack and war on IC is clearly not what they want primarily), in the second case I think they take over (because at that point IC is clearly so crippled and the system so useless to IC without rebuilding that gently caress it).

Then we want them to take over a burning colony which will act as a deadweight and force them to waste resources rebuilding it.

Mars does not negotiate with terrorists. Letting this one guy get out doesn't mean the other IC big wigs won't detonate the nukes on their own anyways once he is clear. This isn't a surrender that will save us many lives, only a shot for him to save his own. We'll own Titan completely in another couple rounds of combat.

We put him and his cronies on a ship we command and they can stay there until we find and disarm all the bombs.

Also, do these people have families? We can let them go but keep their families as insurance s aboard the harvesters as insurance.

Civilian casualties are around three million at the moment. About 2/3 from Triton fleet scattering 100kt warheads around and the rest from the ground fighting/misc other war related stuff. This comes to about 1.5% of the Titan population. Massive destruction but not the tens of millions people are slinging around.

This is quite true about the powerful escaping consequences though its a fairly safe assumption that if there are in fact nukes and you let him go they wont be set off. Special Branch has a habit of finding and paying people visits who cross the Martian Republic in that sort of way and he's smart enough to know this.

The leadership of the TFS wants him bad and cant quite bring themselves to believe there is actually an insurance plan. In their minds stringing up (literally or otherwise) the previous administration would both please the masses and legitimise their own leadership so they would emphatically support any option which ends up involving a Triumvir in their hands.

Don't we have some Spec-Ops Ninjas than can make him 'accidentally' disappear?

Unconditional surrender with conditions as per nickesasky

We'll promise that the TFS won't hang, draw and quarter him, and that's it. He should feel lucky to get out of this alive.

If he blows the harvesters we declare open season on him and all his colleagues and let the mob at em.

Can't we build automated jumpships with only basic AI routines to do the jumping to minimise exposure of our crews until we.figure out the mechanics of jump psychosis? Basically cargo modules strapped to an engine to carry matériel, it could have a crew module to fly it out to the JP, the tender then shoves it through. We could even work a ferry system in where the detached crew module then latches onto an oncoming transport to take it back. At least then we can keep exploiting Ranganui and only need expose the crew twice per tour of duty there.

Also would love my traits as well if you have the time.

Zaodai, fluffwise it doesn't seem to me like we need a massively complex guidance system to push a ship through a jump field. Why don't we try to jump some missiles? If those work then we can scale it up to make our cargo haulers.

Could the OCD that the jump-immune are exhibiting be the reason for their immunity, not a symptom. A lot of OCD symptoms are safety behaviors used to reduce fear or anxiety. If they were performing some kind of safety behavior to cope with the jump effects, maybe we could try using these on purpose?

I propose sending someone that already has OCD through, as well as regular subjects, with orders to perform various safety behaviors. Tell them that they need to keep switching the light on and off or the airlocks will open. "Weird glitch, that. Well, good luck!" :v:

e: Or even telling them that squeezing a ball or pushing a button helps against the jump sickness. Maybe if they believe that it will actually work? It's a brain thing so let's use placebo?

I know we've tried to sedate people going through, but have we tried altering their brain chemistry? Try jump tests with subjects on antipsychotics, anticholinergics, LSD and every other combination of upper/downer/sideways-er we have.

Also try sending some psychopaths through and see how they respond.

If we have 3 of the drives couldn't we turn 1 into a jump tender, 1 into a jump battleship and disassemble the last one?

We don't need all of our big ships to be able to jump, one to push/pull them through the network is sufficient, and we can keep a second around as a backup. This of course assumes that there is significant benefit to be gained from disassembling just one of the drives.
