It's somewhat ironic that for iron they need absolutely ridiculous stamina and Taiju is no longer around.

I'm also wondering why he's not using better methods for pushing air. Even assuming he can't use a stream or water power to create autonomous airflow, human legs have far more stamina and raw power than arms so why not go with a treadmill, or a step-bellows? The latter could be made even more mechanically efficient by having it a dual bellows where you can use a lever to create a see-saw type thing where when 1 person steps on it, another person on the other side steps on it and it rocks back and forth constantly. That would give much greater airflow for a much, much smaller stamina cost.

Man, Tsukasa is really no slouch at the civ game either. It feels like by the time our hero has finally gotten this one tribe to join him, Tsukasa will have scouted out all his neighboring territories and conquered half of them. There's a looming sense of pressure that this really is a race.

Tsukasa is doomed to fail though, and not just because he's a Manga antagonist. Mankind has always been a scientific species because we're problem solvers who gravitate towards the most efficient way of doing things. That's what the Kingdom of Science is gonna be - finding the better way of doing things.

Tsukasa's society is gonna be 90% muscle power with the remaining 10% being use of the six simple machines. Senkuu's gonna be moving into steam power in like a year, tops.

And here we have Asagiri who wants "A good time with cuties". In other words, a hedonist. Which society will a hedonist gravitate towards? The one that requires more work to meet the same goals, or the one that grants an easier time of things?

tsukasa's ideology will lose but the threat he poses to senku personally is very real. tsukasa winning might not stop technology from progressing but it will slow it down by literally thousands of years, which is probably enough for him since I doubt he's thinking about what happens after he dies anyway

The thing is Tsukasa's goal seems to be kinda ill-defined and stupid. If he wants to try to create a new society without science, he's doomed for all the reasons I mentioned before.

If he only cares about his current life and doesn't care about anything beyond, then he can still revive adults without issue. The world has changed to the point that reviving adults will still not change it back to the old corrupt system anytime soon. It'll take decades if not centuries to reach the point where people can think about more than simple day-to-day survival and actually worry about politics and land ownership and the like. If anything he's actively making things harder and worse for himself by not reviving farmers who can work the land better, engineers/mechanics who can make living simpler by creating better tools, and doctors who can actively help with the numerous health issues that arise from living like ancient humans. The health issues of living in the society he's creating alone are nightmarish to me.

It reminds me of an old joke : "200 years ago people had no vaccines and ate organic, unprocessed food with no additives and lived to the ripe old age of 'died in childbirth'".

The amount of reading I've had about chemicals jumped up about 600% or more when the science roadmap showed up. I'm curious why the sodium Bicarbonate image is a dog peeing though and not a box/can of baking soda.

E: The problem with looking this stuff up on Wikipedia is that it doesn't go into much detail about production. Why do you need Sodium Hydroxide to make Ammonia? It's not listed! Waiting to see how Senkuu does it is fun but doesn't satisfy immediate curiosity...

So to recap, from the sulfa roadmap they have :

Iron
Salt (Seawater)
Electricity
Sulfuric Acid

The only non-derivative products it looks like they need are Coal and Sodium Bicarbonate. I'm going to assume that Alcohol is easy enough to re-create since he's created it once, and Coal is probably in Chrome's collection. Other than that everything else on the roadmap is a derivative of one or the other things they already have. Sulfa drugs ahoy!

Spacedad best dad. This chapter was amazing. The reasoning behind the 100 stories, the fate of everyone, the ominous bit at the end. And they go out of their way to mention that no, the village ISN'T related to Senku.

"All of us are Senku's relatives?"
"Byakua and I have no blood relation, so I'm just listed on the family tree. Besides, we're hundreds of generations apart. Calling us relatives doesn't mean jack poo poo."

'Generations' are usually around 30ish years apart, so there's 127 generations between Senku and the descendants of his father. We don't even have words for how far back that is.

Good souvenirs though. I'm looking forward to Senku and his group arming up for war. I'm excited for things to be picking up now.

My understanding is that when used in big groups Spears are the most effective, but in smaller groups and individual fights they're outclassed by smaller, handier weapons. If the entire village were to be spear armed and holding off enemies at the bridge it'd be fairly decisive. But once an enemy gets past the spearhead (Knocks it aside, blocks with a makeshift shield, etc) and gets in close range of the spearman, the spear loses a ton of effectiveness. This is where a sword would shine, as it's much easier to swing about and react to attacks than the huge spear shaft. Swords have less of a problem with that.

But I'm no military scholar so I my understanding could easily be faulty.

The thing is when Senkuu says 'The most powerful weapon humanity ever made' my mind goes to WMDs and I immediately think nuclear, but that's way too much of a stretch for now.

The WMDs that he does have access to are chemical weapons (which was basically what they used in this episode after all) and biological weapons, which makes me think he's going to weaponize pneumonia and use his medicine as a bargaining chip to force the other side to surrender.

But your idea is definitely good too, and now I can't help but think of Senku's group using hang gliders to drop disease-infested rodents and rats down from above to infect Tsukasa's army.

I liked the premise though, and so long as I had a subscription anyway, I figured I could give it a couple more chapters. Since then I've come to like it a lot, and Senku, but those early chapters are still kinda weird to me.

The first chapter especially was a tremendous fake out, we didn't realize what we were getting ourselves into. Then they VERY slowly started to introduce the science and it got a little more interesting, but once Senku made it to Ishigami Village then everything clicked into place and took off like a stone-age rocket.

But my favorite part is how Senku is letting Chrome come up with all kinds of ideas and poo poo. You know he thought of a water wheel ages ago, likely back when Gen was asking how the electrical generator would be powered. He likely only picked manpower due to the time constraints they were under when making the drugs.
