:frogsiren::frogsiren::frogsiren:Sessions will be recorded! I am doing a let's play of 13th age for the forums:frogsiren::frogsiren::frogsiren:

NEW PLAYERS ARE MORE THEN WELCOME!

13th Age, Rise of the Ratkin

The port city of Isensun is a budding center of commerce and trade, the thrice destroyed city now sits proudly on it's shores. The city itself is an ivory mass jutting almost angrily amongst the black sands reaching skywards, for fame and fortune. The city is filled with canals, ocean water directed via magic and architecture separating the many blocks and districts. The people of Isensun are varied, though united in their ambitions. No-one comes to Isensun wanting a quite life and to settle down, but rather to make coin and prove their worth. Isensun has a local Colosseum, a place where different contests and performances are given. Anyone can sign up or rent in the Colosseum, though slots are hotly debated and fought over. Freedom of choice is important in Isensun, and it's laws try to express that. Their justices go out of their way to follow the spirit of the law, if not the letter, causing a lot of law trials to be more about being popular and well liked, rather than the actual crime at hand.

The local adventurer's league in Isensun is dying, forcing to compete with cut throat mercenaries, and the cities own royal guard, people simply don't need adventurers anymore. You personally, are one of the last 5 adventurers left. Be you a new recruit, a grizzled veteran, or somewhere in between, you've decided to work for the Adventurer's League. You are given food, shelter, and provisions are provided for your various missions. Isensun Adventurer's League, (or the IAL as it's called,) is unaffiliated with any icon, and tries to remain neutral in the various conflicts that pop up between them. That doesn't mean they won't take a job to clear out demons from the Knights of the Black Crusader, or grab a shady package for the Prince of Shadows "associates," but it does mean that they spread the love around. Most factions know that the IAL are neutral, and treat them with a somewhat weary eye.

You as a character do not have to be neutral of course! Please do not feel curtailed in any way by this bit of backstory, but rather use it (or ignore it,) as you see fit. Just make sure you work for the IAL so that I have a centralized way of getting you all together. If you have any questions about the setting you'd like me to expand on go ahead

I will try to schedule games around everyone's schedule. So regardless of time zone, please feel free to sign up, and I'll try to accommodate you.

tl;dr?

You are members of a defunct adventurer's league, in a city that has been destroyed and rebuilt 3 times over the last 100 years. The game will be focussing on smaller inter-personal conflicts between the icons factions. You'll be playing a mostly neutral group trying to bring back the Adventurer's League into greatness, but watch out something sinister lurks in the bowels of Isensun. Children are going missing, and local traders have been complaining about scratch marks on the door. Gondoliers also hear loud and strange banging in the middle of the night, a cross between cries of glee, and explosions...

If anyone is interesting discussing the game, or joining, or have questions, feel free to post in the discord!

How did this smug dummkopf ever make general?

Argosian Tosslekettle is a middle-aged gnomish dock stevedore by day, and an Admiral of the High Seas by the mid afternoon and evenings, especially during weekends. He's been present at every single major naval engagement of the past few centuries, including the major battle against the barbarian fleets that once laid waste to the great city of Isensun. There's but one catch: his presence was through the art of historical reenactment.

After many of his former friends and enemies left the field of re-enactment to pursue the real thing (some annoyed by the rates he charged for the rental of equipment), out on the seas and fields of true battle, Argosian was forced into the service of the Adventurer's League to get that kick of battle and responsibility over others as a commander, simply because the former re-enactment association fell apart, and he needed some greater source of income to invest in new equipment and historical tomes with.

Jeremy Wainwright, Halfling Berserker

The son of the leaders of a trading caravan, as a child Jeremy was "that nice Wainwright boy." Not as much of a troublemaker as his sister Isolde, and diligent in his studies (if not particularly talented), it was generally assumed that he would eventually take over for his parents, running cargo across the plains and deserts. They had a reputation for fair dealing to all parties, from supplying the Emperor's armies, to taking a few (entirely legitimate!) jobs for the Prince of Shadows, to simply running imports into isolated towns to make a nice profit. However, money creates targets, and on one ill-fated night, a group of bandits got lucky and were able to grab Jeremy out from under the caravan guards' noses.

It's never been entirely clear what happened during the week that followed. The ransom note that was delivered to the Wainwright caravan laid out the motive for the kidnapping well enough, but when the guards' rescue party finally stormed the bandits' hideout, all of the kidnappers were already messily dead--and at the center, young Jeremy, covered in blood and holding a longsword nearly three quarters of his own height, passed out cold on the bloody flagstone floor. When he awoke two days later, the entire ordeal was a blank in his memory.

However, while the events of that week were lost to the mists of time, the effects were felt. Before, when the caravan was attacked, Jeremy and his family were quite content to hole up in the cargo wagons and let the guards deal with it. The first time it happened afterward, though, Jeremy stole a sword from a shocked guard, a strange gleam in his eyes, and set upon the attackers with a manic grace--but after they were driven off, he was as mystified as anyone as to why he did it.

Things never really went back to normal after that. While his family tried to treat him the same as before, the guards and their fellow merchants would whisper behind his back, eyeing him nervously, as if he would snap without a moment's notice. Eventually, as the caravan was passing through Isensun, he couldn't take it anymore, and told his parents that he'd be back when everything was normal again. He joined the IAL in an attempt to meet up with anyone who might know something about what happened to him, but the actual work of the League was reassuringly familiar. Selling violence wasn't all that different from selling barrels of salt, when you get right down to it.

It's about to start!

Kirin Wayfinder(and Jewel)

The Wayfinders are a long line of Halfling adventurers that specialize in one thing. They find the biggest monster people are talking about and they take its head off. 10 generations of Wayfinders have included numerous Paladins, Sorcerers and Bards, all of which have killed some great dragon or giant.

And then there's Kirin. Kirin who would rather mess with his abacus than train with his bow. Kirin who took a big useless dog as his companion. Kirin who loves books(the nonmagic kind) over treasure. Until recently Kirin was employed as an accountant for the Adventurer's League. With the decline of the League he was given a choice, become a "field accountant" and work on missions or find another guild.

Kirin's family is vast. Wayfinders can be found practically anywhere. And unlike the nebbish, finnicky Ranger the Halfling family loves nothing more than cooking food over a camp fire, sharing stories of exotic hunts, and sleeping under the stars. Kirin and his St. Bernard, Jewel, much prefer the comforts of an inn, a good dice game, and a frothy pint.

Despite the fact that dungeons are disgusting Kirin loves one aspect of them, treasure hoards. Accounting for expenses, figuring out exchange rates for gold, and cataloging magic artifacts are the only reason Kirin is still at this job.
