Macdeo Lurjtux posted:He wasn't well known to public but he was a huge deal already in the comedy world. In 2002 Louis had already spent a decade writing for Conan O'Brien, Letterman and Chris Rock. He was super well-connected and, at that time, the careers of two of his discoveries Steven Colbert and Steven Carell were taking off fast. He had a reputation of making stars even then. I suspect what will happen is Louis will probably get a job as a script doctor, since those are almost always gigs that are uncredited, and a lot of comedian types do it for a living when not on the road (Patton Oswalt, for instance). Regarding the "CC guy who blocked Guy Barnum from appearing" I suspect it's Jon since he and Louis were pretty tight. Goddammit, I really admired both guys, too; especially Jon. I guess it could be Maher, but he's been off CC for a while now. That actually makes me wanna bring up something else: Is it wrong that sometimes my reaction is "No! Can't be them!"? Like, I'm very left leaning guy who graduated a social work program, I believe you always give the accuser a forum at the very least. I guess I just don't want it to be true. It obviously is, with Louis. gently caress. El Gallinero Gros fucked around with this message at 02:06 on Nov 25, 2017 |

He helped launch her career but it was Jimmy Kimmel, and later Brian Posehn and Steve Agee who helped her write material, I think. There's a couple guys who I'm mostly sure will be unscathed by this whole thing. Although Uncle Nick is kinda creepy (that said, playing creepy people doesn't inherently make you creepy). jet sanchEz posted:The Danny Masterson situation seems really eerie to me; the church of scientology is well known for protecting their own... Just found out that the reason Crystal Fairy isn't touring might be because Terri Gender-Bender, one of Danny's victims, decided to deal with the trauma now rather than later. Which is the right call for her, but a shame because it's a good project that she built with her husband (Omar from At The Drive-In/Mars Volta) and Buzz & Dale from the Melvins. So he didn't just traumatize her for life with a greedy, disgusting, vile, act, he hurt a growing family's ability to earn money for themselves. Apparently Omar said flat out that select songs from the new ATDI record are about what Danny did. I know it's a tall mountain, but I hope they go after COS legally and win. The guy is insanely wealthy, and Netflix would probably be happy that somebody they have a contract with isn't a piece of trash. I remember once that Roger Ebert said he wished Sandler made better movies because he's met Sandler a bunch of times and says he's a really sweet man, and it made him feel a bit guilty to trash Adam's projects.

Plus, I don't know how much of John's family and siblings if he has any who are alive, but maybe his concern at this point is not what the public thinks so much as what they would think. Anybody who has ever struggled with sexuality or knows someone who has is probably aware of the anxiety coming out to family causes. On top of that, he'd possibly face a lot of judgment for not being honest with his kids. I know his autistic son passed away, which was really loving sad. Supposedly had him considering leaving COS since they wouldn't let the kid get treatment for Kawasaki disease. But he has 2 other kids, one of whom I think is a teenager now. Al Borland Corp. posted:Sure he should absolutely not come out if he doesn't want to. It was really lovely the way the media treated Jodie Foster for not coming out in her Golden globe speech. Michael Stipe faced a lot of scrutiny for not coming out sooner, too.

Snowman_McK posted:If the French have absolutely no legal recourse for someone who has actually been convicted, that is a damning indictment of them. It's also extremely unlikely, since 'committing crimes and fleeing the country' has been an idea as long as crimes and countries have existed. And the idea that France has no legal recourse, now, in 2018, or even 40 years ago, is really stupid. No it isn't. I'm pretty sure most countries don't have the ability to prosecute somebody for a crime they committed elsewhere, that's why extradition has to exist in the first place. And since it's been explained why they can't extradite him, unless France has hard proof that he committed a crime, in their country, with evidence and witnesses, they can't do anything. poo poo like jurisdiction and due process matter here. His lawyers would assuredly pounce on the fact the victim just wants to move on, and then he'd probably be found not guilty (especially since rape cases are SUPER hard to process long after the fact). And then you've violated someone's rights for a not guilty charge, and he'd probably sue the crap out of everybody involved with prosecuting him. It doesn't matter what you think, Polanski has rights, regardless of how scummy and lovely he is. You start violating one particularly bad guys' rights, it sets off a huge shitstorm, and it sets a terrible precedent.

Before bumblefucking his way into the most powerful position in the free world, he was at the exact level of fame and notoriety that, had he simply been hosting The Apprentice when this moment arrived, would have placed him firmly in the crosshairs alongside other high profile celebrities who had been skating by on their bad behavior. No way would he have kept the show if the Access Hollywood tape leaked, and given how many accusers he has, he would have likely been staring down the barrel of years' worth of lawsuits. There was an accusation that was trying to build steam of him and a friend raping a 13 year old, but apparently the victim was terrified to come forward previously and I don't imagine that she's any less scared now that her attacker is the loving President.
