The Belgian Gaming Commission has made their decision.

quote:

"The mixing of money and addiction is gambling," the translated VTM News article concludes. "Mixing gambling and gaming, especially at a young age, is dangerous for the mental health of the child," said Belgium's Minister of Justice Koen Geens. Reportedly, Geens' ultimate goal would be to ban these types of in-game purchases in their entirety and not even solely in Belgium. "We will certainly try to ban it," Geens declares.
Also, Hawaii (lol) is looking to force all games with payed lootboxes to be M rated.

Looks like the grassfuckers have finally hosed the grass too hard.

Yes for sure. Especially if you can sell the items you get to other players for real money like on Steam.

And actually there are many sites where you can gamble with in game items (based on their value in USD) in games of chance or betting on esports.

i remember for awhile youtube gaming channel people were in hot water because some of these sites got them to shill for them at the end of videos and their viewers are mostly kids so lmbo they were trying to get kids to gamble

Is it just me or is it really odd being completely on the side of government officials and concerned parents saying some things that, if you didn't know how things actually were, would sound pretty ludicrous?

So far everything they've said has been like, completely correct, and the Spade is being called a Spade. If this starts the landslide that completely makes loot boxes illegal, it's kind of a miracle.

maybe if you live in a country where the goverment isn't trying to make it's citizens life actually better but is instead pandering to oligarchs and big business.

Magic Online is getting pretty weird with that lately. Wizards of the Coast is already a scummed up company and more and more magic streamers have been opening their loot boxes (chests) live. It’s weird and stinks of, if not overt payments, at the least wink wink handshake deals. I hope I’m wrong but...:capitalism:

Magic online makes you grind and grind needlessly for very few cards. I prefer Magic 2015, because as someone still learning how to play at least you get a wide enough selection of cards to make some decent decks worth playing with.

Right. I can't imagine why they wouldn't. If I were already a company making games that are basically fancy ways to get the rats to press the lever until they die, I wouldn't suddenly catch scruples against using data about individual players to manipulate their schedules of reinforcement.

i like the EVE online model, where rich people pay lots of real life money to buy billion ISK officer modules that give them an addition 2% bonus to their newbie ship. because they dont understand the game they then go out and lose said billion ISK modules to low level pirates.

the "pay to lose" model

Yes, they are called 'influencers'. Companies know how that friendly face getting the card they want can drive their brainless sheep followers into buying. This is in many, many hobbies, don't trust anyone.

The human brain is broken when it comes to gambling.

We need to regulate this poo poo so companies will get back to more making good games to get your money, instead of making really poo poo addiction centers to get tens of thousands from morons with self control issues.

I hate watching streamers i like pretend to enjoy playing sponsored games. A lot of dumb people wish they could make money off of being the next big twitch streamer but they don't realize they will have to completely abandon playing games they actually like most of the time if they want to make real money.

They view the online platform as a competitor to the physical cards. So they make the apps as bad and expensive as playing the real game or highly limited trials of the full game.
