Treaty negotiations were going well, and Dr. Wiley didn't want to miss the signing party. This one looked like it was about to scamper off with her fairly gotten loot, and since she had lost her Queen Bile to a teleportation accident she couldn't even attempt to befriend it. Oh well. Skipp returned, "So good to see you here in the reaches of Dark - as you know I owe my life to Midge... and... well, it's so good to see you! This psychic masked Hiver is Aotzzzuo, and this stodgy Hiver fellow here is Hievel, and that floaty guy there's the Myriad Revenant (but I've been thinking of calling him "Myrv" for short), and that one's, um..." in his excitement to encounter another human face and voice, he almost forgot where he was and what he was here to do: A) to live, and B) to track down and kill the Hyperchurch's Metastatik-wielding Manhunter. "Right- wait, the sniper's here? Snap!" Skipp yelped as he ducked behind the foot of the Swatter-01. "I mean, not here here but - somewhere within sniping range, no doubt. Hm..." Skipp's thoughts were interrupted by the emergence of two Myrmecoid Myrmidons, who must've scented after Katydid's trail. Aotzzzuo and Hievel, their weapons already raised, seemed to have the situation under control. Skipp returned his attentions to Katydid. "Look, Katya," Skipp extended his open palms towards the Swatter's cockpit, embarrassment plain in his voice, "I gotta run in circles for a bit. Pass me that Puffiltrator of yours and I'll set up a proper smokescreen for us. Better safe than sorry, after all!" Sensing hesitation, Skipp continued. "Did you know that the Hyperchurch's sniper managed to take out a pristine Hermes Mag in one hit?! I was the pilot inside it. Brand new rig, too. Gone. Guy's crazy for me. I've been running and trying to track him down ever since." If that didn't immediately convince her to pass over the Puffiltrator, the wink smiley he sent to Katydid over the Comms certainly did. He spied Katydid and took in the - frankly - wretched state of her primary weapon. He sidled up to her and gestured towards it in a 'may I?' sort of apologetic grasp before just taking it outright and making a few changes. It was dangerous as it was right now. The Hyperchurch's manhunter was going to have a hard time targeting Skipp in this cloud of fluffy, floating biomatter! Despite his sixth sense for avoiding danger, Skipp was still shocked by a sudden movement from the ceiling. He watched in abject, helpless terror as the Lurking Horror he'd spotted from afar popped out from its hideaway in a rocky outcropping on the ceiling. The stony sneaky snake of a creature lashed its venomous tongue out at Hievel before Skipp could say anything in warning, stinging and wounding the Hiver in the process. It was around this point that everything seemed to go wrong for the newly-acquainted group of Wreckers. While one Myrmecoid Myrmidon had been thoroughly stunned and killed by Hievel, the other one - the Myrmidon that the Hivers were attempting to infest - had gone into a full-on insectoid warrior rage mode. It charged and took a huge chunk out of Katydid's rig in the process, even as the menacing bug slowly gave in to its Hiver transformations. Skipp tried not to watch the gruesome process, but he couldn't fully take his Compound Eyes off it even if he tried. Before Katydid could react to the Lurking Horror with the Swatter-01's main cannon, a heavy sniper rifle's shot taken from somewhere to the north rang out across the cavern, echoing off the walls. Skipp had heard that noise before, of course: it was the rig-rekking report from the Metastatik. Skipp checked himself for holes and found none. Since Skipp was fine, clearly that meant the sniper had missed- A large shadow suddenly fell over Skipp, and he leapt aside as the Swatter-01 huge metal frame collapsed to the ground in a heap. That had been close! Katydid managed to eject from the rig in one piece, but she had burns all across her body. "You okay there, Katya?" Skipp asked as he rushed to her side and patted out the flames as best he could. "I'm so sorry about the Swatter-01. I thought that darn sniper was after me!" He helped the other Wrecker find cover behind the Swatter-01's fallen hull. Skipp paused to look over towards the Lurking Horror and the Brood Guardian, hissing and snapping and squaring off with each other. He pulled the Puffiltrator off his shoulders and passed it back to the other Wrecker. "Anyway, here's this back, for now. With those two fiends about, this is no time to be salvaging this fallen rig of yours. Heck..." Skipp paused mid-sentence to read a new Sponsor alert which had splashed across his viewcreen. He brightened up considerably. "Well well well, Pertinax to the rescue." he mused. "Hey, maybe you can get this rig of yours started back up again!" Skipp started rummaging through his pack. He'd probably have to get moving soon, depending on the circumstances. If that Hyperchurch sniper's shot came from due north, then Skipp knew exactly where to find them, and that meant the manhunt for the man-hunter would be commencing, and soon! Until that was hunt was over, however, Skipp wouldn't have much time to get any weaponsmithing done. "Here, Katya, you might actually need this synthetics repair gear more than me. Catch-" he said, as he tossed Katydid an Experimental Fabrikit. "-As payment for me borrowing your Puffiltrator." Skipp dug out an old set of armor from his trappings bag and set to the process of uninstalling one of the Mods attached so that he could affix the potent thing to Heliopause. "Ah, that's better," he crooned as the hissing CS Mod connector snapped and locked in place. "I wonder how Von Trapp's doing out there..." Skipp spoke, mostly to himself. "Be right back, Katya, gonna scout ahead and see what's going on further up ahead." On his way out, Skipp passed by Hievel and Aotzzzuo and dropped off a charged Medikit in addition to his old set of Yellow Combat Support Armor. There was a functional CS Armor Mod still attached to the thing, and Skipp didn't want the protective suit going to waste. He also threw in a small bit of luxe for the Hiver, as a token of thanks. "Katya's fine, but she could use Hievel's help fixing up her weapon! Here, Aotzzzuo - use this to patch up Hievel and give it back when you're done. Hievel, here - put this on: it's yours now. She felt more brittle somehow, but it seemed that the basic idea behind the mutagen had worked out as intended, so hopefully the Hive's adaptibility would fix things soon enough. She made contact again with her brood that was busy reworking the chrysalis, they were projecting for the new hiver to join them soon, so it made sense to stick around. Anne took aim at the rigs, while preparing to meet the warhulk that was likely incoming head on. Aim set MBCs to not block the Cry-3 charge Supply request: Thanks Bullet Jesus!

 Deep in the bowels of one of Rook's numberless Vacuole-Factories, a chitin-shaper worked his art. Vast, ponderous beetles, bred for immobility and a lustrous, translucent carapace, sat in dumb rows thousands long. Using a grafted appendage bearing a number of utterly indescribable extremities, the shaper prodded and injected and scraped away at his canvas until his latest work was complete. The Wrecker Midge, slayer of Zodiac Scorpio, stood in proud relief against the alien flesh, lit from within by carefully guided bio-luminescence. The shaper wiped at his brow, pleased with his work. Soon, his clones would repeat his motions on the others, a symphony of perfect synchronicity that would generate several hundred copies for dispersal in Living Cathedrals across the Diaspora. Rook by its very nature subscribed to no religion, but they were more than aware of the cults that sprang up around the victors. Profit was profit, after all. The shaper examined it one last time, then closed his eyes and released himself from this clonal form to reawaken across the stars.

She handed her Luxe over to Hievel as thanks for the excellent work on Dr. J, played musical Puffiltrators with Skipp and Aotzzzuo, handed over her Blastophyte Cluster for good measure and took careful aim in the direction of run like hell. (Because, just like hell, she'd be doing it in circles.) After giving Dr. Jankenstein a thorough going over, "Oh hey, that is top notch work on my gun, Hievel! Lethal damage, nominal heat. Thanks!" She replied to Skipp, "Yeah, it was gunning for Anne and we were matched kill for kill, so probably her vet status as a tiebreak or something? Bad guy with a sniper rifle gotta do things their way. That plus the lurker, plus the annoyance of the fire, means I'm going to be zigging, zagging, dodging and weaving. Happy scrapping, yell if something comes up." She chose one of the targets her AimAssistSoft had painted on the two bounders, lifted her pistol and pulled the trigger, sending a delivery of depleted pandemonium straight into the pilots cockpit. That one wouldn't be getting up anymore. The scorched and blasted bodies of several Myrmecoids lay nearby as well, including but not limited to a dead Myrmecoid Queen, surrounded by her twisted and dismembered children. The Mined Biocover Von Trapp had spent its final moments quite admirably, then, in successfully committing Myrmecoid regicide. Thanks to Von Trapp's noble final sacrifice, the area seemed to be completely clear of hostiles: a total graveyard - just as planned! Skipp was in the middle of rummaging through a Gamma Bounder's cockpit looking for prime mushroom-recharging fodder when his Compound Eyes caught sight of two faintly glowing humanoids slowly approaching from the cavern's distance, their fiery orange light unmistakable in the near-total darkness. Skipp focused his primary scanners on them and studied his unwanted visitors from afar, staying well behind cover all the while. They were Stalkers, surely, but of a kind that Skipp had never seen before. With the squeak and fritz of ambient static, Skipp's chipper voice crackled onto the short-range Comms, in a message intended for Aotzzzuo, Katydid, and Hievel. "Hey guys - Skipp here - thought this place was good and clear, now it seems I've got two unwelcome visitors. They appear to be fire-adapted Hivers, variants of the Mutant Darkstalker... that would make them, what, Hive Ashstalkers?! Their morphobiology is utterly fascinating, and yet... I can't stay here and fight them - not with that Hyperchurch sniper still about! What all this means is that I can't get your conshroomables back up to snuff right now - sorry to disappoint!" "Tell you what, though - Hievel, Katya - I'm gonna leave your mushroomy things here (in 19.03) inside one of the Gamma Bounder hulls. You can pick them all up along with the rest of the rigs' luxe once I lure these fiery fellows away!"
