On the other hand they're a new team leading the conference so it's probably actually immoral to sell. Maybe they have room to move one of the 10 NHL(ish) defencemen they drafted thinking they could trade them in the offseason. Yeah I'd probably just stand pat if I were them and ride the wave. Don't sell because that's unfair to the fans and the team but don't buy either.

My best player was Vaatenen or Jonas Brodie. A Motley crew for sure. NHL 18 might have the worst AI yet though. Like holy poo poo does it cheat. Apparently Colin Campbell is going to try again in March to persuade GMs to accept a change to the off sides rules wherein if you have your skate in the air but are not across the blueline you'll be considered on sides. That would be a good change imo. It's such a technical and stupid rule. Just make it all or nothing. You're either over or you aren't. gently caress feet in the air nonsense.

ThinkTank posted:Agreed, as it's way harder to figure out if something is over a line in 3D space rather than the cut and dry (albeit arbitrary) rule of the foot needing to be on the ice. Then again people are annoyed at the rule now and haven't seen the changes play out yet, so it's harder to make sense of that. Most people all for expanding video review until they actually had to watch games with it in effect. That's why the rule change is good though. You'd have less goals being overturned because a guy was offsides by an eighth of an inch. Any time there's uncertainty with whether the foot was over the 3d space or not they'd just go welp good goal I guess. They'd only wave off the super obvious ones, which is how I'd prefer it to be. They should also have a time limit on how long ago the offsides can have happened before a goal can be challenged for it as well but I know that will never happen. Having goals disallowed because some rear end in a top hat was offsides 45 seconds ago is kinda silly though.

11 million is fine for Matthews anyways. If you consider him a superstar player, that means he'd for example be making like 2 million more than Malkin who signed his contract years and years ago. And even if you somehow managed to sign him to a more friendly deal, so what? Let's say he's at 9 million. Big fuckin' whoop. That 2 million is gonna get you a third pairing dman like Hunwick or some fourth liner. You pay your top guys and figure out how to fit everyone else in later. You don't trade them for picks.

How much would the fans love a shootout that was McDavid versus Matthews? Just those two guys over and over until one wins. It's a great way to highlight stars and adds a level of much needed drama to a pretty stale instituion. I want TJ Oshie to be a game winning secret weapon that other teams are intimidated to go up against. It'd just be Crosby going fivehole five times in a row.

He's been pretty good in the minors so not surprising. Pens have sick nasty goalie depth between Murray, Jarry, Desmith and Gustavsson. Surprised nobody mentioned Malkin doing this thing. Brown later tried to make up for it by doing this thing: Brown got a 5 and a game, Malkin got nothing. Malkin probably won't even get a fine for that because the NHL is dumb and lets nut shots go unless you're such a huge rear end in a top hat that you do it like twenty times like Marchand.

But they couldn't exactly expose a 2-time Cup winner who is 23 years old. Keeping Murray was the right choice even if he turns into Cam Ward 2.0. You make the moves with the information you have at the time and the info at the time suggest MM > Maf not just in ability but youth, cap hit, etc. But yeah all things being equal the Pens would have rather kept Maf and MM as a tandem especially given Murray's injury history.
