Got matched into a Ranked game where the enemy team had 3 players.

In Overwatch that match would be cancelled. In Siege they had to play it until they surrendered and probably dropped an entire rank because lol it's in beta

Another loving joke of an Ela nerf

quote:

We have decided to lower the magazine size of her SMG from 50 to 40 bullets.

Game Designer notes: Ela overpowers her competition. Players select her almost every round, and for a good reason. All of the data we have on her (such as win ratio, K/D ratio, and Kills per round) shows that she needs to be nerfed. We have found this to be primarily because of her SMG and to a lesser extent her concussion mines.

"If she didn't kill you 40 bullets ago, Ela will now have to reload before finishing you off"

quote:

For now, we’re trying to balance her while keeping her SMG’s uniqueness, which lets her fight several opponents at a time better than other defenders.

"Ela was literally designed to be better than every other operator, but for some reason we are finding her to be overpowered and we cannot figure out how to balance her."

What kind of loving joke is 'her gun lets her fight the enemy team better than other defenders. Also all of our data shows she needs to be nerfed but we don't know why'? Ubisoft can't develop their loving game.

What is even the point of the damage "nerf" on Ash? It doesn't seem to influence shots to kill whatsoever. Is there even any conceivable edge case where it would now not kill a dude where before it would have?

It brings her rifle's DPS into line with other operators. They said it was slightly higher than others (this is not why Ash is good, at all).

tjones posted:

Concussion nerf sounds good on paper. Being able to sprint will at least help.

Concussion mines weren't a big part of why Ela was so good. Denying plants/shields is good, but that's utility. Taking away Ela's utility just magnifies the focus on her loving ridiculous guns.

tjones posted:

The Ela change is downright dumb. Drop her magazine size to 30 rounds; 40 rounds is still too much.

If she only had 30 rounds, she wouldn't be as easily able to spray down 3 attackers at once! After all, Ela is supposed to "fight several opponents at a time better than other defenders." That is her intended design. Completely disconnected from any concept of her gadget and anything that her operator info talks about, of course.

tjones posted:

Twitch and Bandit nerfs are idiotic. The operators were fine the way they were. I have heard zero complaints about the two. Why even gently caress with them? Ubisoft, please.

They nerfed Twitch like that because she has too high a pick rate and they decided it was because she can use her drone to deny lots of defender gadgets.

Koramei posted:

Bandit's still got a great utility and not really any reason to have 3 barbs (altho also not any reason to not, imo)

The reason for is that he can use his gadget with them, so it lets him make sure he can make use of them even if no one else brings wire.

There is no reason at all to not, except that it makes him unique.

30 shots wasn't nuts because it allowed her to harass defenders and miss shots on moving targets. The Twitch drones are completely useless for harassment now. You couldn't even come close to downing someone unless they're super low, even if they just stand still and let you zap them. And given you have no way to tell ops' health aside from killcams, why would you ever waste your precious darts on people?

You probably won't even see her drones now until they're already out of darts. They'll just be fat normal drones that can't jump.

That "no tutorials" in that article is pretty funny since the game tells you to play the situations first, and they teach you all the basic mechanics. Is the dude confused by the fact that Siege's tutorials are not called tutorials? I'm an utter potato at fps-games and those things did exactly what they needed to do, they taught me the very basics of how to reinforce poo poo, sightlines being a thing and how some of the operators play.

He played the situations and felt they did not adequately prepare him for multiplayer or most of the ops. Which is 100% true. The very basics don't really cut it, Siege is an incredibly complex game.

The guy outlines a number of things that the game could cover in more depth, including:
- Ways to learn and explore the maps (no, solo custom matches don't count, it doesn't sound like he was even aware you could do that, and for good reason)
- Scenarios to introduce and explain each operator in action
- Any information at all on the new gadgets that have been added (impact grenade, claymore) and therefore not covered by the 2-year-old tutorial

But that's really a minor part of the article, and no one has made any attempt to deny the charges against Ubisoft bilking the game for everything it's worth from its' players wallets. I've personally lost faith in the competence, vision, and management of the dev team since I bought the Y2 Season Pass, and I won't be buying this one. Technically, the game has improved a great deal (the networking changes were long overdue but seem to have made a big difference, and they've made some superficial steps towards combating toxicity) but the imbalanced and unfocused DLC ops, the incredibly aggressive microtransaction pushes, the absolute state of the Ranked game mode, the stagnation in the forms that the game has expanded and grown, etc. have left a sour taste in my mouth over the past year.

I'll probably continue playing Siege off and on but I'm done giving Ubisoft extra money to do the bare minimum. Siege has an enormous playerbase, a seemingly sterling reputation, and boatloads of moolah to be carted into the Ubisoft HQ through boosters, skins, loot boxes, uniforms, headgear, charms, and operators. We're long past the point of "we need money to keep Siege alive and continue supporting it." It's clearly a huge cash cow for Ubisoft, they are now making more money off of microtransactions than digital game sales, and I can't think of any other Ubisoft game that's probably pulling in significant microtransaction money. They need to start growing the game beyond being a nigh-impenetrable shootmans arena that they're constantly changing the tires on while it drives.

I don't really agree with the rest of your post but I don't massively disagree either, but this one point I don't understand at all and I've seen it said a few times now. Why exactly do solo custom matches not count? It's not even especially hidden, it's right there in the multiplayer menu.

And that's completely ignoring terrorist hunt, which is extremely easy to launch into a solo game of.

I've played my fair share of shooters and Siege is really...the easiest among all of them to set up a quick testing game of, and that's including Overwatch and TF2. I'd like to see them have the map-choosing system not buried behind 3 menus I guess but aside from that it's basically effortless, and that's a major part of the reason Siege is now my go-to singleplayer shootmans game for when I want to unwind. I guess it's important that it's that easy since learning the maps is so vital to Siege in particular, so I can see why it doesn't deserve extra praise for it, but I don't think it's really a valid criticism either.

The one part I do totally agree with is that the situations should be updated. Don't they still have Thermite with frags in them? And while claymores are pretty intuitive, impacts aren't so much and they're super vital to understand so that's a pretty big omission.

Dude, read the loving article.

SpiritOfLenin posted:

Let me tell you guys a beautiful story straight from the copper mines:

It is yet another day in Copper solo que hell, with two teams both desperately trying to claw their way out of there. Today, it is time to battle in Oregon and try to secure the biohazard container. My team, the defense this round, sets up, and the attackers come in... and utterly break the defense, with one player on the other team killing almost everyone. "What just happened?" is a common sentiment in the team, but we just shrug it off as a bad round. Those happen. We attack, and almost the same thing happens - a single player kills most of our team, but a hero on our team takes them down, and we eventually manage to beat the rest of the opponents. We're looking at the top scorer on their team and their insane skills, and think he's a smurf or something. We decide to focus all our efforts each round on taking this guy down, and we manage to stay in the game, winning those rounds we can kill the topscorer, losing those rounds we can't.

Then the fifth round begins, with us setting up in the basement again, and the villain's cheats are revealed, as he obviously tracks players through walls. Perhaps he got careless, perhaps he got mad about getting one tap headshotted at the start of the last round, but whatever the reason, his cheating was getting more blatant. The hacker, however, had one fatal flaw - he still clearly belonged in the copper mines, as he had the awareness of a potato pretty much. He laser focused on one guy at a time, and this fatal weakness meant that someone who wasn't their target could usually surprise them and kill them. A miracle happened, deep in the darkness of the copper mines. The team without a hacker started communicating, calling out wherever the hacker was going, encouraging each other and in general working as an actual team. As the team actually worked as a team, every time the hacker fell, the rest of their team fell with him - as deep in the copper mines, most ignore their teammates at best, start infighting with them at worst. And in the end, the hacker made his final mistake, going after the player who had downed him last round with such fury that they forgot that the angle they were using to kill the poor man was in open view of several of defenders. They fell for the last time, and soon it was all over.

5-4, team without a hacker wins. The hardest goddamn game I've ever played. Also the most satisfying.

I can't get over the fact that an Outbreak pack guarantees you a non-duplicate cosmetic, and you HAVE to buy it with real money, but you CAN'T just buy whatever cosmetic you want. It's literally designed to force you to buy more packs than cosmetics you want because you can't control which ones you get. It's like if you went to a grocery store and had to play a slot machine and hope you got a milk carton out of it.

quote:

All players that log in during the Outbreak Event will receive four Outbreak Packs immediately. For those of you who are new to the game and purchase the Advanced Edition before or during the Outbreak Event, you will receive the 10 packs that are included in the Advanced Edition, plus the four for logging in during the event. If you purchase the Advanced Edition after the event is over, you will still receive the 10 Outbreak Packs.
