Maybe I'm thinking of a different facial recognition thing but I could have swore I remember hearing about something similar about a year ago and it turned out that they had trained it using mugshots for the criminals and what the big fancy computer had learned was really just whether a picture is a mugshot or not.

Well, you know, bad people just look a certain way. It's subtle, but with enough mugshots of african american males, we can train the highly selective computer algorithm to detect these criminals before they have a chance to strike!

I'm not sure if its better or worse that the model has no preconceived notions, and can only mimic the training set it was provided. If that training set is stuff people have created, it's very much like looking into a mirror.

My (admittedly very infrequent; maybe 6-7 times total) experiences with taxis in Seattle have been universally bad; the dispatchers are bad, the drivers tried to scam me, a friend staying with me got dropped off in totally the wrong place, etc. I've used Lyft/Uber maybe 20-30 times, and they've generally been good; the couple of bad times, I put in a complaint and was given a refund/credit. I took a hire car from the airport one time, and that was good.

Societally speaking, I'd rather use a cab, but the loving experience is so bad.

Cab companies are a pretty good example of regulation completely stagnating an industry. App-based cab services seem great but at no point did cab companies have any desire to innovate and develop anything like that if they could all just be equally lovely and continue to corner the market instead.

That poo poo pisses me off so bad because I really hate Uber (and Lyft, and Postmates, and...) for their corporate behavior but the actual product is so much better

Where is that setting?

It's within the Adobe SW portal where login to your web account that you use to manage your software. I have a standalone license and go in there to get the serial number, but I think all of the newfangled cloud software is managed through the same site. I may not have found it but the installer has a hyperlink and suggests you "review our privacy settings before continuing" and yes, I definitely needed to review them.

imagine you have to drive three blocks east in downtown manhattan, but the city removed all right and left turns except in the Bronx and the financial district. Each right and left can only go one block. so you drive north to the bronx, then south to wall street, then north to the bronx, then south to the house 3 blocks from you. that's a line city, that's the commute and everyone is on the same path

Now imagine the whole line city had an underground tunnel, filled with a series of automated teslas.
