Burn dust! Eat my rubber!

Bully is a game released by Rockstar Games in 2006. In it, you play as Jimmy Hopkins, a 15 year old malcontent who struggles with issues ranging from being from a broken home to trying to fit in with the various cliques at his new school, Bullworth Academy.

Along the way, he makes friends, enemies, finds love, betrayal, hardship, treachery, downfall, and ultimate redemption.

And a healthy dose of hilarity.

It is, as they say, a dog eat dog world, and Jimmy must fight to survive it.

---

Welcome to the LP! If you aren't familiar with Bully (or Canis Canem Edit, as it is known in Europe), it is basically Grand Theft Auto ... without the killing. Or stealing cars. Or guns. Or hookers. Or ... Well, okay, maybe it doesn't seem much like it, but in actuality it plays very much like your standard GTA game. It features an open world that is unlocked steadily as you progress through the game, and the storyline progresses through missions. You can choose to do them, or simply faff about if that's your thing (although you'd probably get bored pretty quick in the beginning/get in trouble for truancy). The game features much of the same witty Rockstar humor that you can expect from other titles.

How it differs from Grand Theft Auto: the level of detail put into this world is breathtaking. Every single NPC in the game is a unique character, with unique dialogue, unique behaviors and motivations. Each one tells a story on their own, and breathes even more life into what is already a fantastic story. Bullworth Academy and its accompanying town are both charming and well-detailed to an almost painstaking degree. The voiceovers and characterizations are spot-on, and the soundtrack is phenomenal.

... Okay, I'll quit gushing about it. Point is, this game is really, really good.

This is a video LP, and will be of the Scholarship Edition version released in 2008 for the Xbox 360 and Windows. I will be playing the Windows version.

The LP is complete! Special thank you to achtungnight for all his hard work in helping out with character bios and behind the scenes info!

Burn dust! Eat my rubber!

Jimmy Hopkins

Our stalwart hero, Jimmy comes from a broken home. His mother has jumped from failed marriage to failed marriage, latching on to whoever is willing to provide her with the lavish lifestyle she craves. Jimmy, unhappy with the turbulent lifestyle his mother has created for him, has become something of a problem child. His reckless behavior has caused his expulsion from virtually every private school in the country. Jimmy's mother, at her wit's end with his rebelliousness, has decided to dump him at Bullworth Academy, a school with the unsavory reputation of being the worst school in the country.

Why, you may ask? For one very good reason: its bully problem. At Bullworth Academy, it seems that bullying is not only not discouraged, but actually CONDONED. The headmaster of the school sees it as little more than school spirit and harmless high jinks. As such, he turns a blind eye to a school cultural issue that has gone unaddressed for too long.

All it will take is a spark to ignite this powder keg waiting to explode. Will Jimmy be that spark? Or will he be the one who helps the school find its humanity, bringing peace and order to an institution on the verge of spinning out of control?

Editor's Note: Jimmy flouts authority, stimulates the economy by stealing personal items from lockers, and gives the prefects wedgies. Jimmy is a good kid.

I did a few videos in advance to give myself a bit of legroom. Feel free to view ahead if that's your thing.

I will be posting them here on an irregular basis (basically whenever I feel like it). This probably translates into: every couple days or so.

That said, part 2 is fairly short so I'll go ahead and throw it up on here soon, along with another character bio, this time of the universally-loved Gary.

EDIT: And yes, I do plan to 100% the game.

Burn dust! Eat my rubber!

Gary Smith

Little is known about Gary's background. He claims, in his own words, to have ADD, and that much of his problems stem from his parents. Whether that is true or not is up for debate.

Regardless, Gary has a very poor reputation at Bullworth. Other students tend to fear and avoid him. Algernon Papadapoulos (known as Algie to his classmates) refers to him as a “sociopath”,
and judging from Gary's behavior, there isn't much to dissuade one from this conclusion. Gary bullies and teases other students mercilessly, especially Pete Kowalski, a diminutive classmate who
has recently befriended both Gary and Jimmy Hopkins.

Gary, despite his horrible personality and reputation, seems to have a preternatural ability to manipulate others into doing his bidding. With increasing tendencies toward megalomania, it appears
that Gary's grasp on reality is slipping at an alarming rate. With this volatile combination, it's certain to be only a matter of time before Gary ends up becoming a far bigger problem than Jimmy realizes.

Editor's Note: Gary's a psycho. I hate Gary. So should you.

Pete Kowalski

Peter Kowalski is a student at Bullworth Academy, and a classmate of Jimmy Hopkins. He prefers to be called Pete, but is generally referred to as “Petey” by his other classmates.
Pete has recently befriended Jimmy Hopkins and Gary Smith, a fact which he is overjoyed by, despite the incessant bullying to which he is subjected at the hands of Gary.

Pete has a very low self-esteem and generally regards himself as something of a loser, remarking that he's “too cool to be a dork and too dorky to be anything else.”
This may have some merit, as he doesn't seem to fit in with any of the school cliques, not even the Nerds.
Nevertheless, the newcomer Jimmy Hopkins, at least, regards him as a friend, though whether one on equal standing remains to be seen.

Editor's Note: I probably identify with Petey more than anyone in the game, save Jimmy.

Beatrice Trudeau

Beatrice is a member of the Nerds clique at Bullworth Academy, and is the first of Jimmy Hopkins' girlfriends.
After Jimmy rescued Beatrice's lab notes from the clutches of Mandy, the popular captain of the cheerleading team, Beatrice fell instantly in love with him.

Her affections (obsession?) for Jimmy have led her to develop some rather startling delusions and departures from reality, however, as she has spun a relationship between
Jimmy and herself out of whole cloth and now assumes the two of them to be in love. Jimmy, despite his protestations, doesn't do much to dissuade her of this notion.

Bucky, a fellow member of the Nerd clique, is obviously in love with Beatrice, but she's clueless to his affections.

Editor's Note: Girls like Beatrice tend to irritate the crap out of me. But that's just me.

She's my favorite too, as I feel she's the perfect fit for Jimmy. And as for Christy and Angie ... I'll see if I can make it happen come Chapter 2. Catfights are pretty easy to accomplish, so I don't anticipate it being a problem.

Dr. Crabblesnitch

Dr. Crabblesnitch is the headmaster and principal of Bullworth Academy. He is a former alumnus of the school, and takes great pride in continuing its traditions from his youth.
Unfortunately for the students, those traditions amount to a very Spartan mentality where only the strong survive. This has allowed the bullying problem at the school to thrive.

The headmaster, for all his faults, doesn't seem to uphold these traditions with any sort of malice, but rather ignorance.
He absolutely believes that such bullying is a positive experience that builds character and will lead to growth and development.

Editor's Note: While there is something to be said about adversity building character, intentionally fostering hatred and malice seems to be a foolish endeavor.

Miss Danvers

Dr. Crabblesnitch's administrative assistant and secretary, Miss Danvers oversees all the clerical duties of the Bullworth administration.
She also waits on him hand and foot, doing so willingly and with adoration. It is clear to everyone at Bullworth that she is in love with Dr. Crabblesnitch, though whether that is clear to him is unknown.
Rumors persist that the two are in a romantic relationship, but these rumors are unconfirmed.

Editor's Note: One has to wonder WHY she's so in love with him. Attraction to money and power? Genuine love? Fear?

The Bullies (from left to right: Davis, Ethan, Tom, Trent, Troy, and Wade)

The Bullies are the current menace Jimmy must deal with at Bullworth. They take their marching orders from Russell, the overgrown behemoth of a boy who towers over all the other students (and even most grown men).
Each one dumber than the last, they respect brute strength and little else, which is why Russell lords over them.

It is clear that Jimmy will have to put an end to this Bully menace sooner, rather than later. Will Russell be the key to keeping them in line?

Russell Northrop

Russell is the reigning Bully at Bullworth. A hulking brute of a boy, he towers over even grown men. The Bullies all answer to him, and the other cliques dare not cross him.
Russell uses his immense physical strength to his advantage, intimidating others and cowing them into submission.
He has even been known to bully the Jocks, at times, and is capable of lifting a man straight off the ground with one hand.
There are rumors that Russell's size may be the result of a medical condition, such as gigantism or acromegaly; Russell has mentioned that Nurse MacRae told him he has overactive glands.

After Jimmy Hopkins defeats him in a fierce battle under the school, Russell has a change of heart about his bullying ways.
Jimmy explains to him the difference between right and wrong, a concept of which Russell seems to have been genuinely unaware.
Russell appears to possess a child's mind, and obediently follows Jimmy's lead, after being soundly defeated by him.

Now that Russell has been pacified, the other Bullies quickly fall into line. Will this mean the turn of the tide for Jimmy? Or have his problems at Bullworth only just begun?

Editor's Note: Russell is awesome.

Yep. You can, for instance, harass girls who will turn out to be your girlfriends in later chapters. There are also a few "clique" characters that will initially be neutral/hostile to Jimmy, depending on your reputation level with them, that have some bearing on the story. All can be messed with. Mr. Galloway

Mr. Lionel Galloway is the English teacher at Bullworth Academy. A gaunt man of 34 years, his drinking habit has marked his face and caused premature aging.
Galloway often comes to teach his class still hungover, and is known to sometimes drink in front of the students, poorly disguising his favored scotch whiskey and calling it his “tea”.

Despite his habit, Mr. Galloway, along with Ms. Philips, is one of the most well-liked and respected teachers among the students.
He is very open and caring with the students, and believes that students sharing their classwork with others is “an admirable show of teamwork”.
Galloway encourages his students to finish their classwork on time, and will even let them leave early if they manage to finish before the bell rings.

Mr. Galloway's primary cause for drinking appears to be stress on the job, coming particularly from his ever-present tormentor, Mr. Hattrick, the Math teacher at Bullworth.
Recently Hattrick discovered Galloway drinking on the job, and vowed to get Galloway fired for his indiscretions.
Fortunately, Jimmy Hopkins, wishing to aid his teacher, managed to find all of Mr. Galloway's stashes of alcohol around the school and disposed of them by giving them to Ms. Philips (who proceeded to give them to the hobo behind the school). Jimmy was rewarded with a camera for his efforts and allowed to attend Photography class.

Mr. Galloway took an instant liking to Jimmy when he first entered Bullworth, and it seems that his judge of character was well-placed.

Editor's Note: Mr. Galloway is a great character. As someone who has dealt with addictions in the past, I know all too well how easy it is to slip into the abyss that Galloway finds himself.
It's awesome to see that he has people like Jimmy and Ms. Philips who look out for him and want to help him break the cycle.

We'll be seeing a lot more of Galloway and Ms. Philips, incidentally.

Ms. Philips

Ms. Deirdre Philips is the Art teacher at Bullworth Academy, and is one of the most popular teachers at the school.
She is very encouraging to her students, rather than denigrating like some of the less popular teachers. Ms. Philips is especially popular with the boys in the school, and this may be due to her attractiveness and sex appeal.
She gets on well with female students for the most part, but some are jealous of her, and tend to spread rumors about her (such as Christy).
Such rumors typically suggest that she hits on male students, though whether this is true or just wishful thinking on their part is open for debate.

Ms. Philips has a close relationship with Mr. Galloway, and rumors fly constantly that the two are dating. Time will tell.

Ms. Philips has taken a liking to Jimmy, noting his particular skill in art and photography, commenting that he's a bit rough around the edges but he has real talent that shines through.
Ever since he helped cover for Mr. Galloway and saved him from being fired for drinking on the job, Ms. Philips has grown closer to Jimmy, accepting him as something of a confidante.

Editor's Note: I like Ms. Philips as well. You can tell her feelings for Mr. Galloway are genuine, and she really wants to help him.

The Preppies (from left to right: Bryce, Chad, Gord, Justin, Parker, Tad)

The Preppies are the rich kids at Bullworth. They take their orders from Derby Harrington, and from his right-hand man and bodyguard, Bif Taylor.
The Preppies come from Old World money (with the exceptions of Tad and Chad, who are nouveau riche), and as such are snobbish and look down upon their fellow students.
It is also a rumor (and a running joke in the game) that they are hiding numerous deformities due to rampant inbreeding.

Initially befriending Jimmy Hopkins after he wins a boxing tournament, they relinquish the deed to an old abandoned beach house to him as a prize (the prize for the tournament was to be a one million dollar dream home,
but Jimmy wasn't eligible for it). However, their relationship with Hopkins remains strained, due to the fact that he is from another social class.
Also, Pinky Gauthier, a girl in the Preppies clique bretrothed to Derby Harrington, has recently taken a liking to Jimmy.

While they seem to be maintaining an air of civility around Jimmy, it appears superficial at best. Will this facade crumble in time?

Pinky Gauthier

Pinky is a girl from the Preppies clique, around 15 years old. She is attractive, but very spoiled. Like the other Preppies, she tends to be hostile to those she considers to be below her social status.
Unlike her peers, however, she has a fascination with the underprivileged in society. This can be seen in her donating clothes to charity, and she will date boys from the lower class.

She has been, until recently, betrothed to her cousin, Derby Harrington. Their families insisted that they keep their bloodlines and traditions pure and so wished for the two to intermarry. However ...

Pinky has developed an interest in Jimmy. She first felt the stirrings of attraction when she witnessed his victory over Russell in the Hole, then cheered him on when he successfully defeated the Preppies in a boxing tournament.
Recently the two began dating. Pinky was supposed to go on a date with Derby, but ditched when Derby failed to arrive (after three minutes of waiting).
Pinky left instead with Jimmy, and the two went on a carnival date, which proved to be successful.

What will the future hold for the two young lovers?

Editor's Note: Pinky is … alright. I find her infinitely more tolerable than the rest of the Preppies. Her spoiled nature seems to be born almost out of innocence, rather than malevolence.

Anyway, actual update incoming, along with a bio for the lovely Mr. Burton.

Mr. Burton

Mr. Burton is the gym teacher at Bullworth Academy. Burton wanted to play American professional football, but no team would draft him so he became a teacher instead.
He blames this, typically, on an arthritic or injured knee.

A firm believer in “pain builds character”, he encourages his students to actively try to hurt each other during physical activities like dodgeball and wrestling.
Apparently Mr. Burton had a harsh upbringing. His father beat him regularly, and he was hazed badly in college. As a result, he approaches teaching gym with the ruthless efficiency of a drill sergeant.

He is also a lech. Mr. Burton is known to hit on the older female students, about which several have complained. Angie Ng has said of Mr. Burton that it's best to avoid his class because he's “just not nice”.
It is rumored that the reason he hasn't been fired for this inappropriate behavior is because he has dirt on Dr. Crabblesnitch, which he uses as leverage for his job security.

Recently he used Jimmy Hopkins as an accomplice to aid him in a panty raid on the girls dorm. This sort of behavior seems to be typical of Mr. Burton.

Editor's Note: Burton is the sort of character who is just SCREAMING for a comeuppance.
