 The red trunks really help break up the color better than the red belt. For good or ill just the belt tends to really change the imagery of the character. (Though it's better than not having any red at all.) There's something uncomfortably authoritarian about the mostly-blue that the red trunks really help break up. That isn't to say it's the only option but so far they haven't had a ton of success with alternatives.
