Quite a bit. Also, you know, they're a Sony studio.

Think it's remarkable they were allowed to work on their passion project for the entire generation, especially since it didn't have a monetization hook like LBP did with costumes. I guess for Sony it's about building that appealing portfolio of exclusives.

I managed to borrow my friends' move controllers so I decided to bite on the early access, and made this after spending some time with the masterclass sculpting tutorial.

I don't think I'm even going to ever touch the game making parts of this thing; I'm happy just sculpting in 3D space without having to buy an Oculus/Vive. Hopefully I can make something even better now that I'm used to the controls; I think the painting mode is also going to be pretty amazing, just from exploring MM's artworks.

Your first link is broken. I've watched some of Neon's stuff, he does a lot of things but I wish he'd a) slow down a bit and b) explain why he uses a certain gate or whatever for us dummies who really don't know WTF we're doing. I can ape something, but it would be nice to learn "ah, if I want to do this thing I need a certain gadget and this is why." There's also a guy called JimmyJules who has a whole bunch of short tutorials on things and what they do. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=user?julianmarshall153

I didn't mean this with any real seriousness but seeing people slowly nudge their way through the brilliant editors make me wonder how much faster the workflow would be on a rig or at least with KBAM support

Yeah it needs better tutorials. Sculpting and painting are the easiest parts and they're well covered but "logic" only covers three or four events. I want to create a Pokemon Snap style interactive ride but there's not even a tutorial for first person games. At best I can peek at someone else's work, try to figure out how it works, and hope I remember enough from one scene to my own to reproduce it. Pro-tip: I can't.
There's just huge swaths of the game you're left to figure out on your own. Basically anything more complicated than "drag shape across level" and that's massively disappointing.

A good way to learn sculpting is to watch a stream of somebody playing Dreams that seems competent sculpting, and ask him question. I did with some dude and learned a billion of tricks. Also stuff you can do that have almost zero cost on the thermo.
Watching somebody else model, you learn a lot of tricks. Theres a lot of tools in this sandbox, more than it appears at first.

Its mostly just number of sculpts and number of edits in those sculpts, as far as graphics thermo goes. Making one shape and cloning the sculpt is a lot cheaper than copy and pasting inside the sculpt.

NEWT THE MOON

My daughter is trying to make a thing and somehow no longer has a camera attached to her puppet, and is only able to view it via static cameras set up around the scene, and for the life of me I can't figure out how to attach a normal floating third person camera to the puppet that follows it around. Can someone explain it as if I were an idiot, because... well...

homeless snail
Mar 14, 2007

Just turn them off or delete them, if there's no cameras in the scene then it uses the default camera that follows your imp/whatever its possessing.

The puppet properties has a camera distance slider, maybe its set real low, or there's still a camera inside the puppet

...uh, you can totally use a DS4 on PC with no loss of features whatsoever (I used the gyro for sharpshooter aiming in Killing Floor 2 for a minute)

Move wands can work with fuckery but Vive/Oculus controllers would probably make more sense

the game being made with help from sony is a fair point but it wouldn't be the first time a game was console-exclusive rather than a true exclusive

Why would they?

because being able to create poo poo on PC means you get a lot of really bonkers people suddenly diving straight into this, just because it means they don't have to gently caress with Unity or UE4 for their weird little projects anymore

i love how easy it is to import or remix other creations. plenty of people specialized in one craft happy doing nothing but creating assets for others to use.

dreams exists as part of a broader initiative to sell playstations, so i don't see that happening any time soon.

if i were in charge of this i would release the editing suite for PC but require a PS4 and a copy of the game to play creations

that way you get the benefit of the bonkers-rear end PC game mod community making stuff, but it still sells playstations so people can actually play those things

I cannot figure out so much of the logic stuff I hope they get group-collaboration functionality in shortly. I want to make a videogame music quiz but most I can do is supply music composed in Dreams.

What I want to do:
1) Start screen
2) Randomize a song, at least four options to click, one is correct, rest are random and-or similar yet not correct
3) Timer ticks down, top score = answering immediately as the question begins
4) Repeat for ten songs
5) Final score = official score function registers it

Maybe it's in that ever growing bookmarks folder of Dreams tutorial stuff.

The way Logic is done is super confusing and hard to use. Is going to take a long time to learn.

Fortunally, seems a lot of it comes from LPB, and theres already a community of LPB devs in Dreams writting tutorials and devices with it. So people (like me) that start from zero we have a long walk before we can do even something basic, but we have tools and help around.
