Its just that people were setup to dislike it and whenever nerds want to dislike something they turn movies into logic problems where every "plot hole" somehow means the film failed.

I carry the firm belief that all bad nerd criticism can ultimately be traced by to Joseph Campbell's A Hero With a Thousand Faces. That book ruined our society, and we are now forever cursed by things like TV Tropes, CinemaSins, and anybody who mentions the hero's journey after playing a video game or watching a movie or reading a book.

The Hero's Journey is a good touchstone for discussing video game narratives since so many of them fall neatly into the Campbellian monomyth structure but it's not like you score +100 ownzone points for pointing this out.

Yeah, I am not saying "leave this out of all discussion" because clearly a ton of writers use it (which they shouldn't, its trash), but its just one of those things I feel like since people have a vague idea of, like tropes or plot holes, that they think it turns them into narrative wizards.

Narrative Wizards sounds like a good title for something, but I have no idea what.

You misunderstand me. People should use the Hero's Journey as a framing device where appropriate because there's nothing wrong with it and it's a good way to tell a story. Not the only way, but a pretty enduring one that still manages to entertain.

Oh sorry, I am bad at reading sometimes.

I have no problem with the structure itself (well not anymore than other "narrative" structures) its more just the book cause its pop psychology applied to folklore and leaves out African and Asian myth and ignores women. But I guess really the structure is the only thing people take away from the book

At the very least its better than Saved the Cat!

I mean speaking of folklore and myth, like that comic feels much more like reading folklore to me than Neil Gaiman's stuff or like things that are structured around the monomyth.
Its like, abrupt (i can't think of a better word than this) in a way those other works are not, and it just makes it feel closer to those types of stories even though its more styled as a pulp style thing while the former present themselves are more mythic.

In theory, the guy with the Death Note was the only one who was really suppose to go out of his way to kill people, and you were only suppose to kill people when you think they are the death note guy, but in reality it just devolved into a free for all battle royale.

My favorite thing about James Bond, is how much Bond fans hate Spectre. Of course they hate the film about Bond realizing how toxic his life is and ends with him choosing to live as a human instead of a archetypal weapon.

But everyone predicted the Blofeld twist, so its bad. Despite the fact the point was less "hey this is a twist" and more "this guy is literally dehumanizing himself to become the very concept of a Bond villain" so that at the very end its more impactful.

Not saying its like a really great movie or anything, but it had interesting things to say about Bond movies.

I dunno everyone should just watch Man From UNCLE its like a really good spy movie.

Quantum is bad, but its like, a very interesting bad. I mean like Craig had to write sections of the script himself because of the Writer's Strike, and there is the bit where you can tell they edited out one of the cars in the beginning car chase. Its so weird.

Also yeah Skyfall is goofy fun, and Casino Royale is def the best out of Craig's films still. I mean it has Mads, so of course it would be.

This is probably the best decision you can make.

Like, the only two I really still love are Goldeneye and Living Daylights because the female leads in those are either the real protagonist or share the role with Bond himself.
e: and honestly I only really enjoy Goldeneye for the bits Bond and Alec banter with each other. I guess this means Living Daylights is the only good Bond film.

Games tend to have a much longer runtime and thus more opportunities to present queer characters without it becoming a central element to the storyline. Lots of gay side characters in video games, very few unambiguously queer protagonists.
