Presumably, Ami will be the Lupin gang’s guide to the horrifying wonderland that is the Internet. She’s probably going to end up betraying them, but not in, like, a femme-fatale way, more ‘I have something I desperately need to do and I don’t trust you weirdos’. Or, alternatively, ‘this is probably going to kill me and I don’t want you weirdos involved because I like you’.

Mokinokaro posted:I know they're unlikely to shake up the core cast but it'd be awesome if she stuck around somehow. She's great and plays off the others pretty well. It’s reasonable to assume she’ll be this series’s Rebecca.

Srice posted:The child pornographer who is okay with abducting kids and snapping nude pics but would NEVER consider loving them. They made it pretty clear what that was about. They were auctioning them off, and virgins sell for more. The pictures were product previews for the buyers. Yeah, that’s a real, actual thing that happens in that trade.

Serge Painsbourg posted:That makes a lot more sense now that I read that. It does tie in well with the focus on technology and the deep web, but hearing Ami's backstory was an initial for me given the tone of the show. Yeah, according to the articles I’ve read (spoilering for awful again), child pornographers/slavers try to avoid hiring paedophiles for the same reason drug dealers try to avoid hiring addicts - sooner or later, they’ll end up messing with the supply.

Azza Bamboo posted:I love the sunset scene at the vat of water in the desert. I feel it's a great arc to give Ami, where she starts to see the beauty in the world. Given how Lupin ends that whole episode, it's easy to forget the beauty of that scene. She learned in this arc that crime is cool and fun. I’m sure she’ll be available on call if the Lupin gang needs her.

Plutonis posted:I wanna know how goemon and jigen delivered the kiss cover singer and the rear end in a top hat lady to the police Spider-Man methods, presumably. They’d just doxxed them to the whole world as criminal kingpins, so I’d guess they could just tie them up and leave them outside the nearest major police station.

Pretty sure that upon hearing about the Fujiko disguise, Ami would just nod wisely and change a couple of sentences in her fanfic.

Silver2195 posted:The "I'll be taking the title of 'The Third,' then" line made me wonder whether Lupin III's first name is actually Arsene. Is he ever even called "Arsene Lupin III" in any official Japanese-language source? It's always just "Lupin III" (even in situations where a full name would normally be expected) and "your grandfather, Arsene Lupin." Let’s be real here - he was totally Albert’s Fujiko.

chiasaur11 posted:Suggesting a Les Cousins Dangereux route, eh? Let’s be fair, we don’t know that the Lupin family is any more blood-related than the Bat Family. But yeah, pretty much every interaction those two have had screams ‘spectacularly bad breakup’, and I couldn’t help but notice that Albert’s current boyfriend looks kind of like a prettier version of Lupin, which gives that comment about how he ‘has a type’ a lot more weight.

Part IV is a good starting-point, though. It’s a solid series with modern production values designed to introduce a new audience to Lupin. Part V is slightly more self-referential (a number of its storylines are riffing on or actively questioning classic Lupin tropes), so a light grounding in the franchise may be helpful to appreciate it.

Man, Enzo was just hilariously awful this episode. I loved how they ditched any possibility that he might have had anything noble or sympathetic about him before the credits even rolled.
