It is the twitter trolley problem.

You can apologize for something your friend did and make the 10 honest people in the hate mob feel better. But when you do that you give validation to the 1000s of assholes who take it as permission to attack all your friends and family.

literally just 'fyi buck angel sucks' would probably not validate the latter group but itd make the former group feel better. you dont need to make this more complicated than it is. there are two groups here, people who have a weird grudge against contrapoints and people who are mad she worked with buck angel. the way you navigate that is by going 'yea working with buck angel was probably a bit of a bad call eh' without disowning or actually harming contrapoints. thats it really. and ellis's post says that and then just... keeps going in a way that just adds on a bunch of questionable poo poo

and the idea that the way contra gets to justify it is by putting out more #content instead of just going 'yeah my bad' is gross. it just makes the entire thing feel like a pr stunt. like im sure it wouldnt satisfy some people but i guarantee this entire thing would have blown over by now is if shed just say 'buck angel is a shithead' and not 'do i hate nonbinary people? find out on the next exciting episode of dragon ball z!'
Literally nobody disagrees with the statement that contrapoints has jumped the shark and that buck angel sucks.

So when someone says : That dude sucks, but your demands imply problematic normalization of traditional hate group tactics that have hurt real people.

Then you can either accept it or admit that you were always interested in normalizing the concept of communal responsibility.

how does expecting contrapoints to go 'yeah buck angel sucks' and not 'find out next issue, true believers!' normalize traditional hate group tactics? im not saying her friends should disown her or that she should be depersoned or whatever, just that using this as an ad for her next video is a lovely thing to do.

Not contra, Ellis. Contra can suck it.

Pointing what out? That you are friends with someone who works with someone who is an rear end in a top hat?

Ellis just made a video about how one of the main mechanisms of harm used by alt-right hate groups on the internet is isolating people from their support groups. And that they do that by going after those support groups.
Deciding that going after friends is utterly unacceptable, even when the original person did something bad is perfectly reasonable.

Isn't like the whole breadtube label thing at most two years old? There have been openly left wing channels since YouTube year zero, and they like all yt producers have had issues with drama, petty social oneupmanships and accidently letting slip they have some horrible views.

Also if you're tired of internet personalities there are literally dozens of channels made by proper news groups and activists to educate and help build action.
Here is a nice video about the history of "Breadtube"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwqEFvkjDVc

The point is that the early leftists on youtube weren't really youtubers in any meaningful way despite making videos that were on youtube. As they didn't follow the artistic style and social dynamics.

Then after the anti-feminist (especially anti-Anita) and later the full fascist boom on youtube, there came some anti-fascist youtubers who were somewhat successful fighting back.
They ended up being called "Breadtube" because of a meme, and "Lefttube" because america is such a shithole that liberal anti-fascists seem indistinguishable from actual anarchocommunists.

Saying something is apolitical is saying that no part of it disagrees with the centrist position.
As the centrist position is different between cultures and even subcultures things can easily become political in translation without any changes to the work.

In the US anti-LGBT movements are also heavily tied to religious groups who generally don't give a flip about feminism (other than wanting it to go away). In the UK religion is a far weaker force so anti-LGBT activists tailored their message as "we're the real feminists" since that's a far more palatable message in the UK cultural context and TERFs are the path of least resistance for spreading that message.
Makes sense. There is a similar situation here in Germany, too.

Though it generally ends up with "sex-negative" feminism being code for LGBTERF, and the the pro-queer feminists being the majority in sex-positive spaces.

I would still have minecraft at the top of the list, because of its impact on the indie (and later, whole)publishing scene. It basically gave us the idea of the reduced price alpha release. And it kickstarted Kickstarte, despite not being allowed on it.

Similar to the impact Jim ascribes to Clash of Clans on the AAA side. He just is more of AAA gamer.

Never really got that either. If you've got this big subject that you're going to make a 2 hour video about. Why not cut the vid into 20-30 minute chunks and put up a piece every week? It'll keep your channel and presence alive much longer than releasing a huge vid once every month/2 months.
I think part of it is a reaction to the early days of youtube monetisation. There was a period where you could run only one ad per video, so if you were in for the money you released your big video in 15 minute segments.
For the people who were active on youtube in those days, longer videos still feel like a mark of quality and respect for the viewer.
