not all who wander are lost

Resistance is Futile is the 13th album by the Manic Street Preachers, an alt-rock/punk/pop band from Wales, UK. Formed in 1986, the band has seen huge success with hit singles such as Motorcycle Emptiness (1992), A Design for Life (1996) and If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next (1998).

Originally a four-piece, shortly after the release of their third, critically acclaimed but commercially unsuccessful album The Holy Bible, the rhythm guitarist/lyricist Richey Edwards vanished without a trace in February 1995, on the eve of their biggest US tour up to that point. The tour was cancelled and to this day no one knows what happened to him. The Manics decided to continue and went on to become one of the most celebrated UK bands of the 1990's.

I had a huge, huge effortpost written about the history of the band but lost it. Thanks Windows 10. Since I believe SA's userbase is predominantly from the US, I figured there are probably many who haven't even heard of the Manics so give them a go! They've covered so many different types of music in their 32 year existence so if one album isn't to your tastes, chances are another will be.

Don't know them as well as I should but 'Kevin Carter' is great. Also sometimes i get one song from Holy Bible stuck in my head, the white america one.

The Holy Bible is a drat good album. For anyone interested, "Everything (A Book About Manic Street Preachers)" is a terrific rock biography that covers the history of the band from its inception up to 1999. Completely worth a read.

Yeah, it definitely sets the tone for the rest of the album. Right out of the gate with a “stinkyhole” four words in no less. Richey was on form. 4st7lb is goddamn haunting, too.

And hey, here's Yes:

As for the new album, it definitely took longer to grow on me than most Manics albums have, and they always need to grow on me, but overall it's really solid and I might even like it more than Futurology which I thought was fantastic. Not much evolution on RiF but evidently even a sideways movement can yield results.

Just found this, a lovely-rear end quality video of Sean Moore drumming a sound check of La Tristesse Durera.

You know, I'd be less worried about my 16 year old daughter dating a successful 40 year old cartoonist than dating a 16 year old loser.

I mean, Jesus, kid, at least date a motherfucker with abortion money and house to have sex at where your mother and I don't have to hear it. Also, if he treats her poorly, boom, that asshole's gonna catch a statch charge.

Please, John K. Date my daughter... Save her from dating smelly dropouts who wanna-be Soundcloud rappers.

I wish I could get over The Holy Bible. Every time I hear other Manics albums, I just wish it was that one.

Journal For Plague Lovers comes pretty close though.

They for once did the right thing and released an album highlight track as a single. Usually they've left those to rot on the album but loving A, Hold Me Like A Heaven is the last single off Resistance is Futile:

E: Also Nicky sang a cover of Sex Pistols' "No Feelings" during the last couple of gigs of their tour. If anything, it's pretty hilarious.
