 Playoff Matchups:  Chargers 12, Jaguars 9 F/OT Brutal game to watch for all involved. No touchdowns for either side despite pretty good numbers from Philip Rivers on the Chargers side and Leonard Fournette on the Jaguars side. Both offenses just seemed to stall deep in enemy territory and the kickers became the stars of the show. The Charger defense just stepped up in overtime and stopped Jacksonville, which let the Chargers march down the field and let Coons kick his fourth field goal of the day and seal the game for the Chargers, who move on to face the Titans in the divisional round.  Patriots 30, Ravens 27 F/OT Both AFC games go to overtime, but this one has a bit more offense. Brady was sensational, passing for nearly 400 yards and three touchdowns, and running an amazingly efficient two minute drill to set the Patriots up to tie the game as the fourth quarter expired. And unfortunately because of the way this simulator works, it's still "Whoever scores first wins". And when you give the ball to the Patriots in overtime, it's all but over. New England marches methodically downfield and drills another short field goal to take the win, send Baltimore home, and make their way to Pittsburgh for the divisional round.  Falcons 41, Saints 20 This is a game whose final score doesn't really reflect the majority of the game. Going into the fourth quarter it was still a close game, with the Falcons winning 24-20, but a long 62 yard touchdown pass for Atlanta followed by a quick Brees interception, another quick Falcons touchdown, and a turnover on downs for the Saints on the next possession quickly put them in a hole they couldn't crawl out from. Atlanta would tack on another field goal late in the fourth to seal a 21 point victory and a trip to Minnesota for the divisional round.  Rams 38, Cowboys 16 And in our last and probably most lopsided game of the round, the Rams cruise to an easy three score victory over Dallas. The Rams dominated every quarter of play, dominated the ground game, Goff was sensational, and the Rams defense held Dak Prescott to under 50% completion. Not a lot to say about this game as it looked out of hand at halftime and only got worse for Dallas behind Goff's four TD passes. Dallas goes out in the first round and Los Angeles will hop a flight to Philadelphia for the next round

  Chargers 22, Titans 6 Another low scoring AFC affair, but the Chargers were able to dial up some offense to win rather comfortably. Two Rivers touchdown passes, a 19 yard strike to Keenan Allen in the 1st quarter and a 66 yard bomb to Antonio Gates in the 3rd gave the Chargers all the offense they'd need. The Titans defense played well, holding Melvin Gordon to under 50 yards and keeping Rivers under 200, but the Chargers defense was the unit that shined here. Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram each totalled three sacks, with Chris McCain and Desmond King grabbing one apiece, and completely shut down the Titans offense, holding their second straight opponent out of the endzone. With this, the Chargers will head to either Pittsburgh or fly home and prepare to host the Patriots in the AFC Title game.  Steelers 33, Patriots 20 And Pittsburgh finally gets over their New England slump on the backs of their defense of all things. The Steelers offense put up the points it needed to win, but the Steelers defense made sure that they were trading touchdowns for field goals the majority of the first half. Key stops in the 2nd quarter stopped this from becoming a much closer game, and two long touchdown drives in the third quarter by Pittsburgh extinguished the Patriots hope of a repeat appearance in the Superbowl. With this win, Pittsburgh will be happy to sit at home and wait for the Los Angeles Chargers to come to town for the AFC Championship game.  Vikings 22, Falcons 7 After an even first quarter, the Vikings defense put the clamps down and kept Atlanta scoreless for the rest of the game. Minnesota's defense showed why they were the best team with the best record in the NFL this season, and the offense added just enough the rest of the game to salt it away. Collecting two interceptions and shutting down Atlanta's running game completely, the Vikings ensured that both Superbowl teams this year will be fresh, as Atlanta is sent home along with New England. Minnesota can now sit back and await their challenger, be it Los Angeles or Philadelphia.  Rams 21, Eagles 17 Our last game of the round is the closest and most exciting, with the Rams eeking out a four point win with a late touchdown against the 2nd seeded Eagles. Philadelphia took a three point halftime lead, and then after a defensively dominated and scoreless third quarter, the Rams put together a masterful six minute drive in the 4th that culminated in a short Todd Gurley touchdown to put the Rams up by four. Los Angeles would have to sweat two more Philadelphia drives that would ultimately prove fruitless, and send the Rams to Minnesota for the NFC Title game.

  Steelers 35, Chargers 32 In a rematch of the 1994 AFC Title game, the now Los Angeles Chargers head to Pittsburgh to take on the Steelers, and what a barn burner it was. The Chargers got things started by taking the opening kickoff and marching right down the field with a combination of long runs and passes, before Rivers and Keenan Allen connect on a one yard pass to put the Chargers up 7-0 on the Steelers. The Steelers responded in kind, taking the ensuing kickoff right down the field in a little under four minutes before Bell punches the ball in on a 12 yard carry, tying the game. The Chargers would be forced to punt on their next possession, giving the ball back to the red hot steelers just as the first quarter would expire, the score tied 7-7. The second quarter would open with the Steelers driving the ball down into Chargers territory, but would come away with no points as Boswell's 49 yard field goal attempt would sail wide right, giving Philip Rivers the ball in good field position. Like the Steelers, Rivers would guide the Chargers down into Steelers territory but would ultimately be stopped on fourth down, though Travis Coons would connect on his 45 yard attempt, putting the Chargers up 10-7. Pittsburgh's offense would show no sign of slowing down, using a 35 yard pass to Juju to ignite the offense, driving down the field before hitting Bryant in the endzone for a 15 yard touchdown pass, putting the Steelers up 14-10. With under 4 minutes to go in the half, the Chargers would again drive down into the Steelers redzone, but Rivers would miss his mark, throwing an interception to Vince Williams inside the 10 yard line with under a minute to go. The Steelers, rather than just kneel on the ball, go three and out, even calling a timeout themselves for some inexplicable reason, and punt the ball back to the Chargers with 40 seconds to go. Rivers would make them pay, zipping a 38 yard touchdown pass to Tyrell Williams with just five seconds left on the clock, going up at the half by a score of 17-14. Pittsburgh would take the opening kickoff of the third quarter just like the Chargers did to open the game, marching right down the field and tossing a touchdown pass to Antonio Brown, once again putting the Steelers up 21-17. For the first time in the game, the Steeler defense would make its presence known, forcing a Charger punt deep in their own territory, but would quickly give the ball back as Ben tosses the ball to Casey Hayward deep in Charger territory, denying the Steelers any more points for the time being. A quick three and out however would see the Chargers punt the ball back to Pittsburgh, would focus on their ground game, moving quickly down into the red zone for a goal to go opportunity as the third quarter expired, 21-17 Steelers. On the first play of the final quarter, Jesse James hauls in a touchdown pass to put the Steelers up 28-17. Another quick three and out would give the ball back to Pittsburgh, who would use a 43 yard pass to Juju to move back into Chargers territory, before Bell would finish off the drive with another touchdown, putting the Steelers up 35-17 with just under 10 minutes to go in the game. Now desperate, the Chargers turn to their no-huddle offense which quickly pays dividends, moving down the field as Rivers finds Antonio Gates from 26 yards out for a touchdown in three and a half minutes, cutting the Steeler lead to 35-24. Trying to capture the momentum, the Chargers defense finally steps up, forcing a punt at midfield and getting the ball back to the offense with 4:30 to go in the game. Rivers guides the offense down the field, slicing up the Steelers defense and finds Mike Williams from 22 yards out for another score, then lines up to go for two, converting on a fade route to Hunter Henry, cutting the score to 35-32 at the two minute warning. The Chargers though would be unable to stop Bell from pounding their interior defense for two consecutive first downs, and three kneel downs would end the game with the Steelers advancing to the Superbowl by a score of 35-32. Chargers player of the game: Philip Rivers: 30/40 387 yards 4 TDs 1 INT Steelers player of the game: Le'Veon Bell: 22 carries, 251 yards, 2 TDs   Vikings 28, Rams 19 In our second title game, the Los Angeles Rams travel to Minnesota to take on the top seeded Vikings, who will be playing for the opportunity to play the first ever home Superbowl. Minnesota would come out of the gates strong, with the Vikings taking the opening kickoff down the field with Keenum hitting Adam Theilen in the endzone for a two yard touchdown just before the ten minute mark, putting the Vikings up 7-0. The defenses for both teams would take over however, as the two teams would trade punts for the rest of the quarter, ending with that same score of 7-0 Vikings. The offenses would come back alive early in the second quarter, with Minnesota quickly getting back into a rhythm, marching down field with an effective four minute drive, Keenum tossing another touchdown, this time to Kyle Rudolph in the back of the endzone to extend the lead to 14. The Rams would respond with their first sustained drive of the game, moving down field on the back of Todd Gurley and finally getting themselves on the board with a short 23 yard field goal, cutting the score to 14-3. Minnesota, content to trade field goals for touchdowns, would take the ensuing kickoff and go right back down the field, Keenum throwing his third touchdown to his third different target, McKinnon scoring from 12 yards out to go up 21-3 with under 2 minutes to play in the half. The Rams would have to punt shortly after however, giving the ball back to Minnesota with under a minute to play. Not content to go into the locker room with a three score lead, Keenum would be intercepted with 35 seconds left in the half. The Rams would make them pay as Goff would lead a 30 second drive down the field, and in an incredibly clownball moment, the Rams would fumble the ball into the endzone and recover it, which I totally thought was illegal but I guess not??? and score as the half ends, making the halftime score 21-10. After trading punts to begin the third quarter, the Rams would manage to sustain enough offense to get down inside the Vikings 10 yard line, but would once again stall and have to settle for another field goal, making the score 21-13 and once again a one score game. The Vikings would take the ball and keep it on the ground, churning the clock until the game would turn to the fourth quarter, the score still at 21-13. The Vikings would punt from midfield to open the fourth quarter, and the Rams would sustain their longest drive of the afternoon, keeping the ball for six minutes before Goff would hit Todd Gurley for a touchdown, cutting the lead to just two. The two point conversion would be stuffed however, and the Vikings would maintain their slim 21-19 lead. With the ball and six minutes to go on the clock, the Vikings showed why they had the NFL's best record this season, churning clock and protecting the ball, capping off a five minute drive with a touchdown to almost put the game out of reach, extending their lead to 28-19 with 1:46 to go on the clock. That would be the final score as the Rams simply didn't have enough time to score twice, getting the ball down to the Vikings redzone but failing on a fourth down, allowing Keenum to take a knee and advance the Vikings to the Superbowl against the Steelers, in a battle of 1-seeds. Today's game will feature the top seeds from both conferences, the AFC's Pittsburgh Steelers who held off a furious comeback from the Los Angeles Chargers, and the NFC's 15-1 Minnesota Vikings, who defeated the Los Angeles Rams and earned the right to play in the first ever home Superbowl. So without further adieu, let's get to the game. After winning the toss and electing to defer to the second half, Pittsburgh would kick off and give the Vikings first possession of the game. Minnesota would look to take charge of the game quickly, and with a methodical drive down the field, would strike on their opening drive with a 22 yard touchdown pass to Adam Theilen to go up on the Steelers 7-0 with nine minutes left in the opening frame. The Steelers offense wouldn't fair so well, as their offense would move the ball to midfield and quickly stall, bringing up a fourth down and bringing out the punting unit, giving the ball back to the Vikings with a little over a minute to go in the first quarter. The Vikings offense would also stall, and punt the ball back to the Steelers as the first quarter comes to a close, 7-0 Vikings. After a long return sets the Steelers up in Vikings territory, the Pittsburgh offense comes alive, needing only three minutes to tie the game at 7-7 with a bubble screen to Antonio Brown at the 7 yard line. The Steelers defense along with a costly offensive pass interference call would force a Vikings punt on their next possession, giving the ball right back to Pittsburgh. However, the Vikings defense would step up and force a three and out, and another punt back deep in Vikings territory. With half the quarter gone, the Vikings offense would slow the game down and go on a long seven minute drive, capping it off with an 11 yard touchdown from Dalvin Cook with 1:30 left in the half, extending the Vikings lead to 14-7. With 1:25 left in the half, Pittsburgh would quickly go three and out and punt the ball back to Minnesota with 47 seconds left on the clock. At their own 36 yardline, the Vikings would inexplicably run out of bounds, on first down and drop a pass on second down, only to get sacked on a third and long and have the clock quickly stopped at 33 seconds by a Pittsburgh timeout. A punt and a few timely passes from Big Ben to Antonio Brown later, the Steelers would set up for a 52 yard field goal that would sail through as time expired in the half, with the score cut to 14-10 Vikings. Unable to capitalize on the momentum going into halftime, the Steelers would go three and out on their opening third quarter possession, but would also force a punt from the Vikings at midfield, which would be downed at the Pittsburgh 4 yard line. After another Steelers 3 and out that would see them punt out of the back of their own endzone, the Vikings start their second drive of the quarter at the Steelers 33 yard line, but after failing to gain a first down, Kai Forbath's 49 yard attempt sails wide right, setting the Steelers up with good field position and the score unchanged with 6 minutes left in the third quarter. Using a slow drive and aided with two Minnesota encroachment penalties, the Steelers would drive the ball down into Vikings territory, but would have to settle for a Boswell 27 yard field goal, cutting the Vikings lead to 1. Minnesota's following drive would be an utter disaster, as a one yard run on first down would be followed by a holding penalty on 2nd down, and two straight sacks to set up a 4th and 35 as the clock expires on the third quarter with the Vikings punting, but still leading the game 14-13. The Steelers open the fourth quarter by taking a Minnesota punt and returning it all the way to the Minnesota 45 yard line, setting themselves up with excellent field possession. After an efficient five minute drive, the Steelers finally hit pay dirt, tossing a short pass to Le'Veon Bell out of the backfield, who makes one man miss before galloping into the endzone to give the Steelers their first lead of the game, 19-14. Unsatisfied with merely a 6 point lead, the Steelers line up with Bell behind Ben, who gets the carry but is stopped short of the goal line, the conversion failing and the score remaining 19-14 Steelers. Not to be outdone, the Vikings take the ensuing kickoff and quickly move down the field, aided by a Steelers facemask call, before Dalvin Cook breaks free and charges into the endzone for a 27 yard score, putting the Vikings back up 20-19. Being that a two point lead does them no good, the Vikings line up to go for two and make it a field goal game, but suffer the same fate as the Steelers a series ago, Cook stopped short of the goal line and the score remaining 20-19 Vikings with 7:34 left on the clock. The Steeler offense picks up where it left off, slowly and methodically moving down field, chewing clock, until an errant Ben pass is picked off in Minnesota territory, returned up to the Vikings 39 yard line with 3:20 to go in the game. The Steelers defense would do its best to stop the Vikings from killing the clock, but the combination of Cook and Murray would pick up first down after first down, allowing Minnesota to hold onto the ball until Keenum would take the victory formation and kneel on the ball as time expires, giving the Vikings their first ever superbowl title, defeating the Pittsburgh Steelers by a score of 20-19. Steelers player of the game: Vince Williams, 6 tackles and 2 sacks Vikings player of the game and Superbowl LI MVP: 4 carries, 55 yards, 2 TDs Vikings 20, Steelers 19
