The reviews for this have been utterly dragging it for being a open world collect-a-thon mess, but honestly I played the original like SimCity so I will probably still get it lol

It’s more built up State of Decay. The first one didn’t review super well either but these types of games pretty much never do. The better metric is going to be the overall reaction to those who liked the first one

Makes sense. I would imagine that most reviewers weren't familiar with the first given the reviews. Yeah a lot of it is repetitive and the AI can't find its rear end with both hands, but that is unchanged from the first.

This is also pretty niche.

e: I really worry about them not being on Steam. The XBone is clearly the lesser console this generation and without the ability to reach the PC's largest install base easily, I fear the game being a dud. I literally didn't even know it was coming out until this past week.

Xbone has been kind of weird with its exclusives recently since Halo/Gears petered down. They tend to have very niche exclusives that appeal to small numbers of big fans rather than things like The Last of Us or Uncharted.

Which is a shame because it isn't a bad console, they just have weird development styles.

You get the Season Pass, some items and a the first game I believe.

When it officially comes out on the 22nd.

Has anyone ordered a physical copy of the game and got the early access code? I have been trying to move away from entirely digital media but I dont know how the early access would work with amazon.

E. Nm ended up going with the digital copy for crossplay

FYI if you are shooting for all the achievements you will have to play through the game four times, so don't feel overly attached to the first one if you don't wan't to. I would assume that is why outposts give less now, since you are supposed to complete and move on, not sustain. That said, if you are smart and Iiberally use the supply search function (which I believe spawns stuff) it is probably sustainable.

I have no idea if resources or items are duplicated in multiplayer, because right now you can "volunteer" into a game, take a car to your host base, swipe everything from his stash, and just disconnect.

At least you can carry over survivors. Do items put on them get carried over too? Building up a hilarious arsenal of top tier experimental military weaponry in the first game across multiple levels was hilarious.

I mean you dont have to do that mission. It will nag you until you do, but you are free to stay indefinitely if you want to.

They never really get that bad imo. Even the whole "you can't melee them" is false as long as you dodge back when it starts glowing.

Top of the head, the biggest fort I found had two outside smalls and one large outside. So two gardens (+3 food max I think) and one farm (six food max?) plus four food outposts all add up to sixteen total food. Theoretically that would be the max sustainable number, but outposts should not be used for food and meds since you can make those imo. So the real hard cap would be 12 people if you never run food packs.

That's not awful, but it's definitely a lot less sustainable than SoD1

The only one I had that really hosed me (other than trucks getting stuck on logs) was when I was in the middle of a big fight and the entire UI just disappeared. I made it through it by just randomly using items whenever my dude looked hurt. Lost a bunch of items and my companion.

I do like that I was able to build an auto mechanic, craft a bunch of the upgrades, then demolish it. The passive vehicle upgrades that gives seems pretty lovely so I think I'll just build one when I need to craft some upgrades but I made 2 of each which should last me.

If I am building a new base I throw one up first then tear it down at the end, other than that seems like a waste.

Depends on the enclave. I slogged through the missions for some boozers (and let me tell you, those people are a useless, drunk pain in the loving rear end every step of the way - I seriously considered just killing them all several times), and they're the best thing ever once allied. Every 10 minutes, for 75 influence, you can call in supplies from them that include a food ruck, 3 molotovs, some ethanol, and... I think a high trade value item? In short, you can pretty much ignore food production if you stay on top of it, or if you take the brewery as your base, you can brew beer (and fuel/ethanol) with the excess food you'll end up with (alongside a couple hydroponics slots). Destroy plague hearts with the molotovs, and make whiskey with the ethanol. It's an influence/food/fuel printing press for the minor investment of prioritizing any further needs the boozers have.

I think they are an exception though, they seem to have their own unique lines and quests. It's more the generic ones that give you knothing.
