Preston Waters posted:You know what, I really liked TLJ. I think people are being a bit childish to think TLJ ruined Star Wars because Luke hosed up as a teacher. But right now my main concern is that JJ Abrams does anything and everything to piss off the guy who wrote this article, I liked TLJ as well, but it left me dissappointed at the same time. Angry Salami posted:Saying the characterization is 'thin' is giving it too much credit; Jyn literally goes from dismissing the rebels as being as bad as stormtroopers to giving a pep talk to inspire them between scenes. Cassian is somehow both the ruthless operative and the noble idealist who won't shut up about hope. Bodhi has no motivation or character whatsoever. I haven't rewatched it yet. But I'll do you one better. Who the hell was Cassian again? You have: -Jyn (who's name I remembered because everyone kept yelling it) -Mustache man. -Mind raped dude who isn't braindead. -Donnie Yen. -Guy with gun. -K -Krennic That was the list I left the theater with. Characterization is so thin I couldn't remember the majority of the names from the movie after it was over. I now know some of the names. Thanks to the toys I now know Cassian is mustache man. Despite that, I liked it. But then again I also like the Transformers movies.

See him flying around with Chewie, smuggling, having a run in bounty hunters, pissing off Jabba, scoffing at the Rebellion and the Force. The only thing that bothers me about the Leia pulling herself back scene is that in retrospect it was the best moment to write Carrie Fisher out. The best part of TLJ is how it left the story in such a state that (to me) there is no clear easy path forward. Which is a pretty exciting place to be in. Unless they take the cheap way out, add in a large time skip and suddenly both sides are back to full power again. Considering the last batch of movies I fully expect Disney to take the easiest least creative way out.

Neo Rasa posted:Due to her design/etc. before Force Awakens came out she was hyped up like she was to be the new Boba Fett in terms of badassness/etc. They also made a big point out of her being the first female villain in Starwars. So because I couldn't contain my curiosity: wookiepedia posted:However, Christie then began to worry about not being able to explore Phasma's backstory in the ninth installment given the strong possibility that Phasma would not return. The casting list for Episode IX released on July 27, 2018 didn't report Christie as returning. It was eventually confirmed by John Boyega at Celebration Chicago 2019 that Phasma indeed died in The Last Jedi aboard the Supremacy. wookiepedia posted:In her own words, she "campaigned hard" to be in The Force Awakens; the role interested her due to Phasma being a female character who was defined by her actions rather than her flesh. Christie was pleased that Phasma wore armor which wasn't sexualized and that her face was never revealed, which she felt was a modern and exciting concept.[38] She has called Phasma a very progressive female character, which she believes is a large part of her appeal to fans.[33] To be fair, I was never that much into Boba Fett. But he had a cool armor, a jetpack, Darth Vaders respect and a unique ship. He caught Solo and got away with his frozen body and he tries to snipe Luke. Meanwhile, Phasma had a cool armor. You can see where she falls short.
