Felicia shrugged at Kurt's comment. She really didn't want to go into it, especially since they had a mission. Emotional turmoil does not help when aiming for unrelated goals.

She laughed bitterly at Storm's bemusement. "Everybody's got skin, too, but you still have jackasses who think one color's better than another."

And they finally returned to the team's purpose at the Cube.

"I've been told, by the person responsible for bringing me here, that this world needs to be saved. The key to doing so is here."

Felicia smiled wanly. "It's sort of funny. I've known a few magic-users, and they've been like everyone else - some good, some bad. The mystic arts are a tool like any other, to be used responsibly or not, to promote the general welfare or not. 'I'm afraid that your world seems very backwards to me.'"

She braced herself - while the situation had certainly been calmed down, Kurt and Ororo were unlikely to react remotely well to this revelation.

Doom was prepared to fight. He had killed Storm once before. Nightcrawler as well. Even if it was through indirect methods. The guilt hurt, but he knew it could be done again if the moment came. He is Doom, after all. He isn't the likes of ordinary men. Which is why it is so amazing that Doom is impressed. He expected and prepared for a brawl. An all out-fight for survival. He had his weapons prepared. He had summoned the Power Cosmic. It was to be done.

And, yet, this girl, less than half Doom's age, defeated them with words alone. She simply showed her face and ended what would have been a bloody duel. She had softened on Doom, he could tell. But, Doom wondered if he was now softening on her. She could make a powerful apprentice.

"The wise girl speaks the truth. I am not the Doom of your world. I am Darth Doom, leader of the First Galactic Empire. And, in my world, those who uses the forces your minds would call magic were once revered as heroes. Until...recent events changed minds. In my world, both of you were members of the premier order of the 'magics'. Master Munroe and Padawan Wagner. Not that you were each other's counterpart." Doom paused. "The wise girl is also right in that we are to save this world. But even the great mind of Doom has not yet deduced what we are to save the world from. Perhaps it is from this backwards thinking both of your worlds seem so oddly accustomed to. In the Great Empire of Doom, all serve the state equally. It amazes even the famous stoicism of Doom how much your people are divided. It reminds me of...the world I fixed."

Nightcrawler and Storm

Storm is about to say that she's made a fair point regarding the bigotry of the narrow-minded, but adopts a stern expression as Venom reveals her feelings on their world. "I'm afraid we must disagree there. On your world, people judge one another by unchangeable facts of their birth. Here, we prefer to let actions speak. Studying magic is a choice, and those who choose such a dark path have shown they bring only ruin to this world, regardless of their intentions."

As Doom reveals his origins, Nightcrawler puzzles trying to sort out what Doom is talking about. "Okay...wait. First off, we definitely don't need the kind of fixing that he's talking about, thankyouverymuch." He rubs his chin, though, looking at the colored buttons on Doom's suit-front, the ribbing on his arms, the black robe and cloak, and suddenly howls. "WAIT! Wait, wait, wait...Please tell me on your world I got to fight with a lightsaber in my tail!" He begins to laugh with glee, and even Storm's offended expression softens as she realizes what Kurt is getting at.

Storm composes herself a moment before continuing, "Regardless of our...philosophies...You're saying that there are others of your team in the installation? Where are they now?"

Mega Man X and Sir Nicholas the Fury

It takes time, but after navigating the hallways of the prison, X and Fury finally find their way to the correct junction where the Amulet of Agamotto is being kept.

It seems like a trivial thing - a simple golden square with a gem set in the middle. It hovers in the containment field, slowly spinning as though in a jeweler's case. The Ancient One almost seems to smile, his jaw creaking with the effort. "Finally - our goal! Quickly, deactivate the containment field! We must cast the scrying spell quickly so that we can find the next Sorceror Supreme!" He barks orders at X, commanding him to bring down the field and claim their prize. He'd do it himself if only he had hands...

X

"Ancient One, I have seen some awful things so far on this world." X sighs and walks over to look at the Amulet. "I've seen versions of good people I knew turned awful. There's a part of me that doesn't want to trust you, but there's another part that knows all I can do is follow the mission. All this is to say: you better now doublecross us, old man."

X begins to deactivate the containment field.

Do I need to roll for this?

Mega Man X and Sir Nicholas the Fury

No roll necessary since there's no asset or anything being formed here and taking down a forcefield should be well within Mega Man X's wheelhouse.

The containment field powers down, and the amulet drops with a soft clink onto the platform in front of X and Sir Nicholas. Ignoring X's warnings, the Ancient One almost whispers instructions to The Fury. "Pick it up, quickly...You must wear the amulet. I know you are no wizard, but I sense the magic on you. We will use it...channel it...to cast the scrying spell." The amulet is warm to the touch, somehow, and the golden metal flickers slightly, as though reflecting the flame of a lit brazier.

The Ancient One relays instructions on elaborate hand motions, and words of power. It is not a quick process, and Sir Nicholas is well outside his comfort zone attempting to cast the spell, but fortunately it is a brief incantation. The amulet glows, and a light emanates from within, illuminating a trail for them to follow, presumably to the location of the next Sorceror Supreme. The Ancient One seems satisfied. Suddenly, though, Sir Nicholas feels...odd. Before X's eyes, he seems to change suddenly - his chainmail armor becoming a dark blue jumpsuit. His sword, a retractable baton. Sir Nicholas's eye glazes over momentarily, as memories of SHIELD...of his time in WWII, fighting with his howling commandos...of punching Baron von Strucker in the face over, and over, and over again...all of it comes rushing back to him, and after a few moments reliving the entirety of his life, they are ripped away once more by the spell of the Warlock King Kulan Gath. His armor returns to Hyborian Chainmail, and he remembers once more his sacrifice at Gath's prison, the gamble he made to save Rojhaz and the others.

The Ancient One looks at the Fury with knowing eyes, attempting to explain for the sake of the confused robotman standing nearby. "I suspected something like this. The scrying spell siphoned some of the magic around our friend to cast the spell. There is a powerful enchantment on him - old magic, from an age undreamed of..." His jaw begins to lock, his voice becoming almost a mumble. "And it also siphoned magic...from me..." His jaw detaches briefly, and the decapitated head winces as it tries to force the desiccated bone back into place. "I am out of...of time. You must complete the miss...ion...Find the Sorceror Supreme...Give them the amulet, and...No time..." The head struggles to form any last words, the life seeming to finally leave his eyes, but suddenly the Ancient One forces out one more word - an unrecognizable one, but a word nonetheless. The last of the magic leaves him, in one last spell.

Cyclops and Beast, Nightcrawler and Storm

An image of the Ancient One, as he was in life, appears before the other members of Weapon X - Doom, Gaston, Venom, Agent Addison, and Spiral. The apparition speaks to them, and glows bright white, as though a spirit. "Your friends have succeeded, somehow, against all my doubts. They have located the amulet, and the path is laid clear now. I use the last of my magic to reach out to you - to show you the path, as they see it now. Find the Sorcerer Supreme - find them, and save this accursed world!" The apparition disappears as suddenly as it arrived, but a glowing path is now visible to each of them.

Doom is puzzled. Why was Nightcrawler so amused at the notion of using a lightsaber? On their world, they treat "magic" users as evil and the use of the power cosmic certainly seems to fit their definition. Their foolish definition. They act as if magic is a choice. But there is no choice in magic, only will. The will to power. It is human nature. If something exists, it is the right of humans to seize it. If that human is not worthy, another may claim it. And not just humans, but all beings. For all are equal...in their inferiority to Doom. The true master.

"Yes, both Padawan Wagner and Master Ororo uses lightsabers, as was expected of the Marvels. But your words are false. Those with affinity for the Power Cosmic are born that way on my world. Your small minds call it magic. Would you say it is their choice then to ignore mastery of a power that could control them if not properly tamed and subdued?"

But it was not time for philosophies and arguments. Those were for lesser beings. Doom stands above arguments for he knows the truth of his vision. This was a time of action. And allies in desperate time should not be ignored, even if you keep your dagger drawn for protection.

"Our allies are at the Cube and on the path to the amulet. We have less than 30 minutes to save your world."

As Doom speaks, the Ancient One appears in a flash of light. He speaks of the success of their allies and urgent nature of their mission.

"Your world is on the brink of destruction. It has forsaken an important pillar of creation out of fear, ignorance, and bigotry. The nature of magic is power. And power must be controlled by the worthy. Without a sorcerer supreme to protect your world, you, who know nothing of magic, have led it to doom. You have the option to save the world. Now, follow us and help us rescue the Sorcerer Supreme. Or consider the deaths of the billions that will be on your head in moments if you do not act and know that you will go into oblivion knowing you could have done something but didn't because of your own prejudice and foolish!"

Doom turned and begun on the path giving a knowing look to Venom to follow. He would not waste another word on these two. If they were heroes, they would follow. If they were fools, they would stay. Life was as simple as that on occasion.

Nightcrawler and Storm

Watching Doom's preening, Nightcrawler and Storm roll their eyes several times. Storm is the first to speak, looking to Venom. "Your...friend makes quite the speech. You should know that we can't just let you take artifacts from here, but it's clear that we need to come together and sort this out somehow. I shall be the first to make a gesture here - I urge you to take it in goodwill." With that, she taps her ear, activating her communicator. "Storm to all teams - call off any attacks. I have met with some of the intruders, and deemed them to be non-hostile." She pauses, listening for a moment before continuing, "Trust in me, Scott. Do not fight them - escort them, instead. We will all converge and sort this out."

Cyclops and Beast

Just as the Ancient One disappears from the view of Spiral, Addison, and Gaston, Cyclops and Beast suddenly hold their hands to their ears, looking at each other in mild surprise. Cyclops responds, "This bunch here seems pretty hostile, Ororo..." He listens a bit more before sighing, "Acknowledged..."

The two mutants look to their opponents, taking on a guarded, but not hostile, stance. "Alright, I don't know who you are or who you're with, but sounds like you've got a chance to explain. You lead the way, and we'll talk this through." Almost immediately, Spiral sets off along the trail, causing Beast to curse under his breath before he and Cyclops both take off in pursuit.

Cyclops and Beast

Cyclops seems unconvinced, looking around at the group of Weapon Xers as they run. Something about his expression gives Agent Addison the distinct impression that he is determining whether he could optic blast the walls down around them quickly enough to make this argument moot. Though for his part, Beast seems intrigued, albeit with a healthy dose of skepticism.

"Universal failstate? I'm afraid you'll have to expound upon that a bit, ma'am. Magic, as unpredictable as it is, has caused nothing but trouble to our fine world. That's the whole reason the Cube was built - to contain it and ensure that by keeping it off the field entirely, it would never again be used to take innocent lives." His face turns somewhat grim as he continues, "With no way to defend ourselves against its use, the power of magic was at risk of becoming the next nuclear arms race."

Breaking his silence, Scott joins in then, his voice tinged with anger. "Everyone in the world saw what it could do - one sorcerer took out a whole city in a temper fit! That kind of power...Nobody should be able to learn how to do that."

Beast continues, "We've never heard of a 'Sorcerer Supreme,' and...despite my admitted curiosity at finding out what that is, I don't think we can just take your word on this one. Still, Storm trusts you for some reason. We're going to find out what you're after, shut down the bomb, and talk this over like civilized people. The Warden should meet us once we sort out where you're going."

The six-armed mutant looks at McCoy, as if to gaze into him, to see if he's really the same person she knew of. She cracks the knuckles of her lowest hands, lacing them together and stretching them, as she shifts her weight. The Warden. Won't *that* be a joy.

She sighs at Doom's arrogance, and stays closer with Storm and Nightcrawler, partly to overshadow the man's presence to them, and partly because she was pretty sure they'd need some sweet-talking to support a new Sorcerer Supreme -- the other teams likely hadn't made as good an impression on the not-X-Men.

"You have my sympathies for all this; it wasn't my idea to come in here and tell you all you were doing it wrong. But 'magic is an inextricable part of the world', sadly, sounds like one of those things you just have to live with. It's sort of like forest fires, from your perspective: you can't just keep the whole place un-burned. The ecosystem depends on a few blazes every now and then."

"It isn't that different from basic spacetime theory. Universes distorting the multiverse's fabric around them, it's complicated. The point is, if things get out of alignment universes start colliding. I don't need to explain how bad that is."

Addison really should leave it at that. Discussing the morality of this whole operation would just put Cyclops off further. Still, if they're going to be meeting the warden after this...

ahem "So. Cyclops, you ought to know that there were people in my universe that made similar arguments to that. They weren't arguing against magic. Just... people with the inborn ability to read and control a mind with a thought, or take off their glasses and destroy a city block. I figured you had the right to hear it from me, and not when Warden Xavier notices it in my memories."

"We never went this far with it, before you ask. A lot of horrible people tried, but... Never did this."

Cyclops and Beast

Beast looks to Spiral and holds a hand to his chest, "A caveman?! You wound me, madam..."

Cyclops listens to Addison's speech, but his face remains grim and unchanged. "Your people were fools. We were chosen for this mission specifically because we didn't seek power. We got it through dumb luck. We work with what he have, rather than trying to seize more power through mystic crap like that amulet you're after."

The path gets brighter as they get closer to their destination. The prison gets darker, and more threatening as they go. It seems that they're heading into the containment area for living subjects...or maybe living isn't the right word. The cells are labeled, one with a man held in a sort of stasis chamber, labeled "Jacob Russell" and another with a shambling, bandaged creature which makes unsettling moaning noises, labeled, "CHIEF N'KANTU". Eventually, the path comes to a stop, right before a cell labeled, "VLAD TEPES". The cell is only partially illuminated, but they can clearly see the decapitated head of the Voivode of Wallachia, Vlad III...Dracula. His body is restrained in a coffin nearby, but deliberately kept separated from the head by a plastic wall.

Storm and Nightcrawler

Nightcrawler scoffs a bit, "Yes, well...The warden will be able to plan out the next move, either way. Maybe one mage would be enough, I guess..." He seems doubtful, but decides to keep it to himself as he teleports up ahead. They continue along the route until finding themselves in front of a cell, surrounded by friends from both sides. Storm and Nightcrawler quietly step aside to compare notes with Beast and Cyclops.

Sir Nicholas the Fury and Mega Man X arrive moments later, joining their compatriots in front of the cell. The amulet, in their possession, glows brilliantly, a beam of light pointing towards the motionless body of Dracula. It seems they've found their new Sorcerer Supreme...

"I'm afraid you'll all have to step away now." A voice calls out suddenly from behind, as all turn to find Warden Xavier moving towards them, his wheelchair stopping a few feet away. He is flanked by the remaining X-Men - Wolverine, Jubilee, Siryn, Dazzler, Gambit, and Iceman. "Our newfound...friends...here have some explaining to do."

"Warden...I'm glad you're here. We were hoping you'd be able to do just that." Cyclops steps forward, hands behind his back and nodding to his mentor. "They told a pretty wild story, and we're hoping your abilities will be able to verify for us. We should...turn off the bomb, though."

Xavier sighs, and shakes his head a bit. He leans forward, as if to concentrate, reaching a hand toward the Weapon X team, and then...

A massive energy wave lets loose, tossing the assembled X-Men and Weapon Xers in all directions before they can respond! Xavier smirks, kicking up the foot rests on the wheelchair and standing up and out of it as the fallen warriors lie on the ground, momentarily dazed. "You fools...I had everything in place perfectly! It was WORKING!" Xavier yells to Venom and Doom, as they struggle to stand. His face controts in rage. "But you've ruined it all!!" The image of Xavier fades then, and in his place is a floating, impish man with impossible hair. Psychic energy crackles off him in all directions, and his straight jacket hangs limply off his waist as he smiles wide to the assembled heroes.

Cyclops looks in horror at the strange man, shouting, "Oh my god, it's The Myriad!! He's loose!" He tries to set off an optic blast, but a piece of debris flies up to wrap around his face.

"Don't interrupt me, Scott!" The Myriad commands, then turns to the Weapon Xers. "I've been hiding right here all these years, you see...They never knew who I really was! I came back all those years ago, from the now-time...I didn't exist yet then! I went back to kill my father's greatest enemy, but I wound up becoming his own nightmare!" He laughs at the irony of it, as he continues to ramble. "My father...he stepped right in front of the blast, saved Magneto! His arch-nemesis! But I couldn't let that just happen...So I took over his body, and I made him fight me! Made him dance like a puppet on my strings! He wouldn't ever love me, so I made him fight me!" He wails in anguish, his broken mind trying to piece together what had happened in retelling the tale. "I...made him tell the world that I was some evil mage...I had to make the world fear something, don't you see?! I knew that maybe...maybe I could still fix this! Give my father his dream come true! AND THIS WAS IT!" He waves his hands around, gesturing to the Cube in a manic fashion. "Now they hate magic, not mutants! Don't you understand!? I fixed everything!!"

He holds his head in his hands, pulling at his hair as he tries to get himself under control. "The magic-man, he gave me the idea...he said, 'they'll always fear you, David! Don't you know? They have to fear something!' And I did it! I won!" He suddenly looks to the Weapon X team, his eyes glowing with rage. "YOU WON'T MAKE ME LOSE!" He lets loose with another big wave of psychic energy, this one more focused, and directed towards each of the members of Weapon X!

Addison - you can count that XP for lecturing Cyclops, go for it.

For the moment, though, it's BOSS FIGHT time! Legion's datafile is weird as hell, and we're going to be jumping into this. I have him written as using multiple different datafiles as one character, each with their own stress levels and powersets and everything, and each datafile plays a bit differently. His first one here is his big angry psychic datafile, which is based off of Phoenix. He has an SFX which allows him to switch between the powersets if he gets to a certain stress level, or at will by spending a doom die. So that's a bit of explanation on how this'll go down. The X-Men are going to count as a d8 asset for y'all that you can use anytime that you want to narrate an action with an assist from one of them. Tagging Agent Addison to kick things off!

So, Warden Xavier wasn't even an alternate of her professor Charles, after all. As Peter would say, what a tweest! David's mad rant stretched on, and Venom was struck by his lack of focus - yes, spending years on end in a masquerade, but deluding himself that it was an improvement. Naturally, as she came to that conclusion, the wave crashed upon her. (Honestly, the whole thing reminded her of an incident during finals sophomore year, when one of the med students was arguing loudly and storming out of the building before he threw his notebook at a lamp post.)

Weathering the blow was one thing, but she'd become a little friendly with Kurt and Ororo over the last several (emotionally fraught) minutes, and it was heart-rending to see them rock from this betrayal - and still reach for her, when she fell to one knee.

God drat psychics. Always trouble, always meddling, always a threat. Spiral had been taught early on how to resist them - not fight, you coudln't fight, but you could resist them. Some used songs or reciting prime numbers, anything to throw up static. Being a fighter, Spiral found 'mindset training' the best. Think like you're bracing for a blow, even take a stance like you're about to be hit. Spiral does this, as the wave comes towards her and buffets her mind, which likely looks strange to the others.

"Anything can be killed," Spiral says to Beast and Addison, a disconcerting smirk on her lips, while two of her arms draw swords. "And everything has a weak spot."

With that, Spiral digs her feet in and takes off towards her prey. She swings into the fight, thrusting out to stab while another hand slices, while she moves to jump to the side from a swing back her way. Like a tornado the mutant moves, and each move seems to send a new splattering of blood on the floor.

@Lager: 4d10+1d8 And Now to Avoid the Energy Blasts! (Solo x3, Crazy as They Come, Telekinetic Shield) = (4+10+3+9)+(2) = 28; 19 with a d10, because the dice roller is apparently a bigtime X-Men Legacy fan and loving loves Legion? I dunno...

As Addison and Beast open fire, and Spiral becomes a whirl of arms and blades, the Myriad raises a shield of pure psychic energy around himself. While not a perfect defense, he manages to avoid anything beyond a few fleshwounds. His eyes glow with a brilliant light as bits of scattered fabric on the ground simply rise up, as he telekinetically bandages himself as an afterthought. "I told you, you can't beat me! You won't beat me!!"

Since Spiral didn't tag anyone, I'll go ahead and pass it to...Mega Man X!

Mega Man X
PP: 1 | XP: 1 | Stress: 1d6 Physical Stress

Seeing Legion's blast fire outwards, he quickly activates the Raven Wing and shoots off into the sky, latching onto a wall. Below he sees his team and the X-Men, working together. X smiles: at least some heroes are still heroes.

Reaction Roll: @little mac: 2d6+4d8+1d10 avoiding Legion's dealie = (6+3)+(4+7+2+7)+(10) = 39. 17 avoids that but barely.

X glances for a moment at the amulet and then down at the body of Dracula. For a moment he considers the variables. This is their mission, but Dracula - well, that seems like bad news. Still, Legion might be worse. There wasn't a lot of data in X's index on Legion - Stark seemed to think Xavier was hiding information about him - but it didn't take a psychic to know he was tough. X steels himself and shifts to the Cobalt Crush, his buster turning into digital fist. He leaps from the wall and dashes quickly to drive the fist into Legion's face.

Cobalt Crush! X uses his speed to ram his stolen power fist into Legion!
This is 2d6 (Stress and Affiliation) + 3d8 (X-Men, Combat Expert, The Last Avenger) + 1d10 (Superhuman Speed) + 1d12 (Cobalt Crush)
@little mac: 2d6+3d8+1d12+1d10 cobalt crushing Legion's jaw = (3+2)+(8+4+2)+(5)+(9) = 33

@Lager: 4d10+1d8 Avoiding X's Attack (Solo, More Than Just Reactive, Telekinetic Shield) = (2+3+1+9)+(8) = 23; 17 with a d10, and an opportunity. X takes out one of the Solo dice! And Legion's powerset will switch now, because that's how he rolls when you take out one of his affiliation dice.

The Myriad realizes too late that he has underestimated X, as the robot slams a metal fist into his jaw before he has time to fully protect himself with his psychic energy shield. Tears well up in his eyes as his jawbone shatters, and he lays on the ground, his breaths coming in long, raspy heaves.

David curses, reeling inside the prison in his mind from the blow as he loses his grip on Tezko the Unforgiving. The splinter starts to grin, thinking that he has his chance now, but David throws an arm out and shoves the creature back inside the cell, locking the door and sealing him away again. Falling to his knees, David looks around at the cells, racking his brain to think of a solution, before looking down at his hands...Maybe where one splinter had failed, two might succeed!

For a long moment, it seems as though the fight may have finished as quickly as it started, but...The Myriad's eyes glow bright red, then fade to black before returning to normal. Immediately, his body begins to shift, making horrible bone-crunching sounds as he transmogrifies into something unnatural and unnerving. His torso turns reptilian, with massive claws and thick red scales that almost look like plate armor. His lower half, on the other hand, undergoes a far more astonishing change. His legs split in half, then a second time. They begin to harden and turn black, almost like a carapace, and his lower body extends into a horrifying spider-like shape.

The creature known as The Myriad stands before them as what can only be described as a spider-lizard, and shrieks. "that...HURT!!!!"

That brings the roll to 17 with a d10 effect die, and beats Fury's attack...barely!

The Fury has experience fighting against giant spiders, and giant snake men as well. But a lizard-spider? Well, that's something a bit new...Still, he manages to land deftly on the creature, and begins stabbing at the scales and carapace. He feels the armor plating giving way beneath his dagger momentarily, but the hide is just too thick for a quick attack - The Myriad quickly regains the upper hand, managing to shake the old warrior loose at long last, and not a moment too soon!

"Yes, David, Charles Xavier's X-Men fought against anti-mutant bigotry. But they never stood back and watched while non-mutants suffered, and they certainly never stoked hatred of another group for the sake of mutant safety. Your father would have been ashamed of what you've done. All you've accomplished is ruin, persecution, and despair."

It was a nice little speech, but Venom felt there was still something lacking.

"Look at these fine men and women you've twisted to serve in your cruel cause. The trust you've abused, so you wouldn't have to admit your failure. You betrayed them anew with every day you lied to them, David."

The Myriad's face becomes blank for a long moment as Venom speaks, listening to her words despite all his blustering and raving. Several of his former guards hold their breath, wondering if she's somehow convinced him already to surrender, but...Alas.

The creatures face contorts suddenly in rage as she finishes, roaring at her incomprehensibly before shouting, "NO! You're wrong! Dracula's Tomb

Posting for Doom, due to probation

Doom had done this to many people over the years. Mind tricks, people would call them. The Marvels kept mainly to easy ones. A simple trick of the mind. Something to confuse the weak willed. But, the Dark Lords were different. Ripping the mind for details. Tearing it apart. Pulling up memories and emotions as need be. It was neither fun nor misery for Doom. It was a tool.

This, however, was misery.

Doom lie in anguish as his perfect mind was ripped apart by the machinations of the mad mutant. As he watched the others fight, he tried to piece it together. His mind flashed as he got to his feet. Once, he was back on the fields of Felucia. He had come to get General Xavier’s life. He had spent weeks emptying his mind to avoid his detection. He wasn’t going to let the General escape again. Doom had been one step behind for months. Everytime he got close, Xavier would escape.

Doom flashes back to the present. He is staring at a hard, grey concrete floor. He can only hear his labored breathing. The sounds of fighting a distant distraction.

And then he can feel the heat of the jungle. The humidity making his cyborg bits ache and rust. But he can’t dwell on it. Even think about it. He must let the power cosmic marinette his body. Anything more and he will be given away.

Doom is putting his hands on his knees. He pushes himself back up. Fighting a massive headache.

He sees Xavier. He lies in camp. A beard grown on his face. His lyftchair is rusted and breaking down. He is vulnerable. Doom should plan. But that would only hurt him. He must act on instinct or allow Xavier a chance to blast his mind.

Doom is back on his feet. Tired. The world is moving around in a haze. He can’t see straight. Only a horrible blob that seems to morph and change draws his damaged vision.

Doom is in the dirt. Xavier was still one step ahead. His trap was sprung. And Doom was at his mercy. Could he had thought before, he would have avoided the trap. But had he done so, Xavier would escape. He was in a catch-22 and was now caught and dying.

Doom can feel the power cosmic well up inside of him. His vision tightens. He seems the shape of the lizard-spider in front of him.

Xavier rants about his victory. Doom is down without a hope. A lightsaber ready to take his head. But, he can see it. An Acklay. It had not noticed them. It was out on his hunt. Doom could feel the rock under his hands.

Doom begins to summon the power cosmic and pull on the door.

Doom throws the rock and the Acklay strikes.

Doom yanks on the door to Dracula’s tomb and tries to burst it open.

Doom is attempting to free Dracula to add him as an asset in the fight.

D10 from Solo, as I’m certain no one will help him.

D4 from Broken Narcissist, as he only does this due to his delusion memories.

D10 Superhuman Durability, since Doom is weary and fighting through pain.

D8 Cosmic Push, as he is trying to rip a door open with the Power Cosmic.

D8 Cosmic Expert, because he is using the Power Cosmic.

2D10+2D8+1D4

Outburst, as Doom is concentrating and summoning the Power Cosmic through pain and is using tremendous force in a big burst to shatter all the security.

3D10+1D8+1D4

Focus, as Doom is trying to focus his mind through this pain.

1D12+1D10+1D8+1D4

https://orokos.com/roll/710349

D12=10, D10=8, D8=1, D4=2

18, with a D4 effect dice to make this Asset. 1 Opportunity.

Doom spends 1 PP to make his effect die a D6. (I can do that right?)

18, with a D6 effect dice. 1 Opportunity.

Doom looms over Xavier as he begs for his life. The Acklay, already stabbed through the Marvel’s body, is dragging his screaming and flailing body to certain death. Doom watches and does not think. Free of thought. Denying Xavier any distraction in his final moments.

Dracula's Tomb

And now for the reaction...Releasing Dracula is a doom pool roll, but he's kind of decapitated at the moment. So I'm going to assume Covok is cool with me expanding a bit on Doom's post to make it make sense for how Dracula is going to be able to get up and help if the roll works. Regardless, I'mma claim that opportunity to add a d6 to the doom pool so Doom will get a PP!

@Lager: 2d8+4d10+1d12 Doom Pool = (1+2)+(9+5+10+9)+(7) = 43; welp that is a 19 with a d12 effect, so no dice on opening the cell door!

Darth Doom shakes off the Myriad's mental assault just in time to dodge the spindly legs or the mad mutant's arachnoid form. Moving towards the tomb of Dracula, he manages to shake the cell door loose, the bulletproof glass vibrating violently against the emanations of power cosmic pouring off the former Marvel in waves. Unfortunately for Weapon X, the hinges - though damaged - manage to hold, and the glass does not shatter, despite its protests. Though Doom has weakened the door, the head of Dracula remains beyond their reach, for the moment...

Nobody was tagged, so I'mma say that The Myriad gets to take an action!

As Doom rushes the door, the beast that was David Haller roars with rage. "Stay away from that BEAST!" As Hank McCoy begins to protest, the Myriad suddenly begins to throw massive cords of sticky webbing all over the room, trying to envelop both X-Men and Weapon Xers alike. "I will end this, now!"

@Lager: 3d10+3d8+6d6 Webbing His Prey! (Solo x2, Reprachnid Monster, Superhuman Reflexes, Webbing, Grapple, Area Attack, Combat Expert) = (6+9+3)+(5+1+4)+(1+6+2+2+2+5) = 46; Somewhat...less bloated than the last roll...This will be a Webbed! Complication and the Grapple SFX will be boosting the effect dice, so it could get nasty in here. Remember that Myriad does have a d10 of stress on his top affiliation die, and you can use that in your rolls along with the X-Men asset if you narrate Wolvie running around like crazy clawing at the webs or something similar. 15 with a d12 against Venom (who pissed Myriad off most recently), d10 against Fury, d10 against Spiral, d8 against Mega man X, d8 against Doom, and d8 against Addison.

Tagging Addison!

At least I don't dance with them, right?
Agent Addison
PP: 4->2 XP: 5 Stress: Physical d8

First off, my reaction roll. Team d10, Stress d10, X-Men d8 from Cyclops shooting eyebeams all over the place in wide arcs, "I've Fought Bigger" d8 because c'mon, this is half a Venom at best, Covert d8 from contorting out of this, Weapon d8 because I'm cutting out with a knife.

2d10+4d8 = (7+2)+(7+3+7+1) = 27

Spending one PP to keep a third die, making that a 21 with d10 effect die and one opportunity Lager could take.

Scarlet beams cut through the room in great arcs as the leader of the X-Men struggles against the webbing. But that is not the focus. No, that's on the agent slowly cutting her way out of the mass of webs suddenly wrapping themselves around her. She's not worried, though. She's fought Venom, you know. These webs aren't even actively trying to strangle her. It's only a few moments until she (with the help of an errant blast from Cyclops) falls to the ground with a wet plop

"Alright, guns aren't a great plan..." Addison staggers to her feet, slowly brushing herself off as she tries to figure out what Weapon X can even do here. Knives won't work. Energy blasts haven't done much better. X got a good hit in, but can he get another? ... No. There's a person down there, somewhere. Maybe she can make a connection.

Gambit reaches back to throw another salvo of cards. Addison grabs his wrist as she walks past him towards the spider monster in the center of the room, shooting him a glance that says 'please, just one moment'.

"Hey, David. You're hurting, right? You must be, after all that. I just want you to know, you don't have to keep fighting." Addison slowly sheathes her knife, keeping both empty hands raised towards Legion. "We can all just calm down and... talk. You can trust me. I don't know how you do things in TORCH, but SHIELD gives second chances. Even to you, if you'll take it."

I'm going to try to inflict some Emotional Stress, but in a nice way. Team d10, Stress d10 (or possibly just the Emotional Stress d8?) because Legion's hurting, X-Men d8 because I'm stopping Gambit from attacking more to make a point, Psych d8, Agent of (A) SHIELD d8 because have you seen the number of recruits they had in AA, Weapon d8 because I'm making a show of putting away my knife and being empty handed.
Does that work? I think that works. If it doesn't, I'll just drop the last d8 in post.

2d10+4d8 = (2+4)+(8+8+4+3) = 29

Spending 1 PP to make my total 20 with a d10 effect die, because the doom pool's getting big and I want to play it safe.

Tagging Venom next, because we might want to keep talking at Legion.

The Myriad looks anguished, more and more frustrated that his playthings won't just listen! He howls back at Addison, his voice breaking as he holds back tears, "Don't you understand?! This is my second chance! TORCH was my shot at redemption! God...I killed my father, don't you get it?! I had to make it right! I HAVE to make it right!"

Within the prison of his mind, David slumps down, almost losing his grasp on the splinters as he does so, tears welling up in his eyes. He tightens his grip, trying to find some resolve, but he is shaken as his hands begin to loosen once more...

The other splinters take notice.

David flails a bit, seemingly desperate to find some way out of this battle or to end it quickly, when suddenly...he stops.

His body transforms once more, returning to its more human previous appearance. But for all the physical changes, something is...very different about The Myriad. He smiles wide at the X-Men and the Weapon Xers. Everything about him, from his posture to his expressions, is that of a completely different person. He stands nearly motionless, one hand idly playing with a piece of paper, folding it into a lotus flower. "I'm sorry Agent Addison...But David won't be accepting your generous offer tonight."

Venom

1 PP, 1 XP

Venom eeps and frantically dodges the wave of bleagh. She was already on a hair trigger - David was very unstable, emotionally wounded, and it wasn't going to be more than a few seconds before he lashed out. Fortunately, she's not alone - Storm is, as she proclaims, mistress of the elements, and gale-force winds help to thwart the sticky stuff. The velocity drops significantly, airborne dust neutralizes some of the tackiness, and the chill of the whole affair alleviates the risk of being wrapped by less-flexible masses.

Team d8, Sorority Queen d8, Superhuman Reflexes d10, Psych d10, X-Men d8, Stress d10: 4d10+2d8: 3, 3, 5, 1, 2, 5. Crap on a cracker. Spending a PP for 13 d10 so I don't get taken out by webbing, however ironic that is for Venom.

Alas, despite Storm's best efforts, she just doesn't have enough room to bring her talents to bear fully, and Venom gets splatted by several large clumps. Nevertheless, she persists.

"Oh, I think he will, actually," she disagrees, following up on the SHIELDie's argument. "That's the only way forward, see? Killing Xavier and taking his place, that was one long Weekend at Bernie's gambit, decades of stalling. It lasted quite a while, but it was never truly going to be a stable status quo. It was always vulnerable to disruption - you just had to wait for the right kind. My team has rocked the boat," she waves to her fellows, "and yours will provide the new foundation. TORCH can continue to protect the world, putting ignorance aside, and without your leadership."

She cocks her head. "Unless your tenure has been so . . . inadequate that none of them have the skills and training to step up, and provide proper stewardship, where yours was poisoned?"

These X-Men are standing firm, and Venom grasps for the light at the end of the tunnel. "Come, sir. You scrambled for a solution to a bad situation, and now it's time to transition to something less . . . destructive."

Team d8, Sorority Queen d8, Siren Song d10, Psych d10, X-Men d8, Stress d10: 3d10+3d8: 6, 2, 3, 5, 5, 6. Spending my last PP for 17 d10, to 17 d12, for an Another Way? complication. Time for Sir Nicholas the Fury!

Time to break out the Doom pool...adding a d12 to the set for my pool, along with Solo d10, Folding Reality, Free at Last, Psych Expert, and Venom's stress. @Lager: 2d12+1d10+2d8+1d4 = (4+3)+(1)+(8+2)+(4) = 22; That's going to be a 12 by default, so I'm going to spend a d6 and a d8 from the Doom Pool to boost it to an 18 with a d12 effect and at least not have Myriad's final form be one-shotted! That's 3 doom dice down in this one roll, doom pool is looking much smaller now, but avoids the complication for the time being.

The Myriad sneers at Venom's words, watching her with mild amusement. "You really do not understand what has happened, do you, little hero?" He waves at her dismissively. "You have no idea what you and yours have wrought. You see, you might have had the chance to talk young Mr. Haller down, to convince him that your way was right and proper, and that he could fix all his mistakes and come back into the light."

He reaches out a hand and moves it as though folding an invisible piece of paper, and as he does so, the room around them suddenly begins to collapse. "But you aren't dealing with David any longer, and I'm afraid that I will not be taking your deal." The floor and the ceiling compress in on each other as the room is folded, the Myriad's hands moving along the imaginary seam as though to crease it. Wolverine's arm and Dazzler's torso are folded together, blending and flattening out into each other in a horrifying manner as the two veteran mutants howl in horror and anger. As Beast gets ready to fire, sensing that the time for conversation has run its course, the Myriad turns his attention to the hirsute guardsman. "I am free now - free to make the world into what pleases me. Free to tear my enemies apart, to twist them into shapes that amuse me. And you? You bore me." The Myriad claps his hands together, and the Beast collapses in on his own body, becoming suddenly two-dimensional. His scream is nearly soundless.

Tempted to spend a doom die, but we'll go ahead and let you do some stabbin', since Fury's been having a rough time of it so far this fight.

Fury lunges towards the Myriad, but finds that the further he leaps, the greater the distance to his target becomes, as reality warps and bends around him. Suddenly, the corridor they've been fighting in, in front of the Tomb of Dracula, becomes an impossibly long expanse, with the Myriad visible only as a distant mote from Fury's perspective. "None of you get it, do you? You'll have to be educated. This is the way the world is, now, you see? My whims. My desires. I can fold it any way I wish." And with that, the room suddenly contracts once more, and violently. The Myriad stares into Fury's surprised eye as the room shrinks, grabbing him by the face. "You are not my enemies anymore. You are my toys." He smiles wickedly, patting Fury on the head and turning away, confident that he's successfully intimidated the old warrior, and that he's so far out of his league that he need not concern himself with Sir Nicholas.

And then Fury stabs him anyway.

The Myriad spins around, enraged and confused, not believing the sight of blood on his fingers. He looks at Fury with an open mouth, but no sound escapes.

As the Myriad stares in shock at the blood on his fingers, Spiral takes advantage in order to launch a massive assault. Blades spin out at the madman from seemingly every direction; Spiral's multifaceted attack would've been hard to deal with even at the best of times. As it stands, David Haller - or the facet in control of his body at the moment, anyway - finds himself skewered in multiple ways. Gurgling blood, he looks down at his other hand, where a single folded paper crane rests. It drops to the floor as his eyes, previously glowing brightly with untold power, return to their normal color.

David's eyes look around frantically as Addison touches him, and his voice is quiet as he rambles. "Name? Fame? Grim grum fate...Ordain, destroy, condemn. drat...his name?" David shakes, becoming almost manic but lacking the strength to move.

"You ought to know Mr. Mistoffelees! The Original Conjuring Cat-- (There can be no doubt about that). Please listen to me and don't scoff...Cold, late night so long ago/When I was not so strong you know/A pretty man came to me/I never seen eyes so blue/You know, I could not run away it seemed/We'd seen each other in a dream/Seemed like he knew me, he looked right through me..." He coughs and hacks as he speaks, but he seems to be desperate that they understand.

“Guess I’d just kill him.”

Sir Nicholas exhales, adding more smoke to the small cloud gathering at the ceiling. By the light of his cigar, he can discern little more than his companion’s silhouette against the night sky as she turns from their open window.

“Kill the Witch King?” His scowl darkens at her chuckle. “Solve a lot of problems,” he shoots back with a jab of his cigar, pulling himself into a more upright seat in the bed. “Wouldn’t it?” “And create just as many,” the Contessa replies, leaning back against the sill.

“What else can you do with him?” An accompanying wave of his smoking hand interrupts Nicholas’s latest drag. Valentina sighs, arching her back far enough out the window to contemplate the stars as The Fury continues. “No prison of ours could hold him forever, and-“ He snorts at the thought before it’s out of his mouth. “And I doubt my charms or yours could change something as twisted up as him.”

“We are both killers, Nicholas.” Straightening, Valentina steps from the window. “Had I the opportunity, I would kill Gath wherever he stands, whatever the price. But you know that.” He turns from meeting her gaze, sits up to the bed’s edge. The room’s shadows hang heavy in his scars. “Just as you knew where the truth of my concerns lay when I asked what you would do were Gath before you.”

Her arm weighs across his shoulders like steel as all the years sink into his bones. He feels like an old man. He chuckles darkly at how naturally even he takes his own brand of magic for granted. “I am an old man,” he mutters. “Elixir or none.”

“You have us. To protect you.”

“But how much longer can I do that for all of you?” He raises a hand to meet hers at his shoulder. “That’s what tomorrow’s deal is about.” Even now, this long after his last contact, the word still echoes with power. Turning his head, The Fury and Contessa lock eyes. He can feel how his burns, despite his even tone. “Making sure it’s long enough.”

“Of course. But that is also tomorrow’s concern.” With her free hand, Valentina snags the Fury’s ashen cigar from his. “Tonight’s is to stop you burning down this lovely inn, and our bed with it.”

By the next night, the entire company of The Shield was dead by diabolical hands, save one old man.

Somewhere in Sir Nicolas’s memory, a connection is stirred by something in David’s gibbering. Pushing aside Addison, The Fury grips the singing Haller by the throat. “That’s enough games, boy.” He snarls, leaning in to put himself eye to eye. “Tell me what you know about devils.”

Dracula's Tomb

Haller gasps as the Fury grasps his throat, hacking blood onto the old warhorse's hand. He barely utters the following, "The Devil - had he fidelity - Would be the best friend - Because he has ability - But Devils cannot mend..." He reaches up, his fingers wrapping around the Fury's doublet, "The Devil hath power To assume a pleasing shape." He reaches up to Fury's ear to speak once more, his voice a hushed whisper, "Smooth runs the water where the brook is deep; And in his simple show he harbours treason...." And with that, David Haller falls limp to the ground, his hand dropping from Fury's shoulder as he breathes his last.

The assembled guards, the X-Men of this world, look to each other in silence. Still processing the shock of all they have learned.
