Is it built on a gold mine and you get mineral rights? I understand you're just buying it for the land, but...well, it's California, so do you get water rights?

Right, but then you have to live in Florida.

The only people buying an $800k house in Florida are rich people. And the wages in Florida are pretty lovely compared to the rest of the country (though no where near as bad as the Midwest).

Also you have to live in Florida; a literal bogland that is wiped out every 5 years or so by Mother Nature repeatedly reminding us that people shouldn't live there.

You can also buy REALLY CHEAP beachfront property in New York State, but everyone says there is a reason it's so cheap, and it's not the condition of the houses. I forget the name, but it's two places...one has an M in it. It'll come to me.

Land for 900,000, build for a million, list it for 2.4 million and sell for 2.6. Make $5-700k profit.

The house will look exactly like the dumpy bland middle class person's house I grew up in in the Midwest for a tenth the price but have like, stainless steel appliances and a marble "kitchen island" and a "great room" which is where there's no wall between the kitchen and living room so it smells like whatever you cooked yesterday all the time
