This next fight is probably going to barely cover the legal expenses he just had defending himself from a lawsuit put forward with the sole reason being to cost him money though so it all evens out in the end

CM Punk went on a podcast hosted by his buddy and talked poo poo about a WWE trainer/doctor about a lump on Punk's rear end that he may or may not have had saying the doctor ignored him and didn't help and the doctor sued him for 8 million total in damages - 1 dollar for everyone that heard the podcast then doubled or something like that. The thought being thrown around was WWE being the petty company they are put the doctor up to it just to bleed punk of whatever money he has and possibly bankrupt him in defense fees or judgement.

I can't do the trial notes justice, so if you ever want to have a laugh look up the notes from the trial. It was a clownshow from top to bottom.

From CM Punk's lawyer's twitter:

https://twitter.com/LauraKMcNally/status/1004388023440637952

They were trying to take every dollar he had

quote:

Punk noted that while he doesn't have to pay anything, he spent a lot of money in legal fees for his defense. He said that to recover those fees, he would have to file his own lawsuit. Punk noted that he doesn't think he'll do that.

"I don't think it's my style," Punk said. "I don't know know what I'm going to do. This whole experience has taught me a lot... I'm on the fence. Money is just paper, but that was my life's work. I do think it was intentionally done to bleed me of money. It's over, and there's a big part of me like, it's over. Just leave me alone. I don't want anything to do with you. That's how negative that situation is, and I don't want anything to do with it. I just want to be over here and be happy [motions to his right], so I'll probably just stay over here and be happy."

Punk added that the trial was supposed to start earlier than it did, but Amann's side was filing motions and "stuff got delayed." When asked if he thinks that "they" got the trial moved to end this week to affect his fight, Punk replied, "If you know them and if you worked there, it makes a lot of sense. But I don't know."

So they may have also stalled poo poo out in court just to make sure the trial was at the same time as his upcoming fight

He's not wrong - Jackson did look like a complete loving idiot. He probably thought he looked amazing stylin' on his opponent but his opponent was an amateur fighter with no hope in the first place so it just made him look like he couldn't finish someone that in mid fight was trying to finish himself. In a whole fight that was sad at least CM Punk was trying even if it was hopeless for him so Jackson was the saddest part. He's just a lazy dumbass.

Edit: Hopefully neither of them ever fight again it was tough to watch and not in an entertaining way

I've seen people floating the idea that Jackson put money on himself winning by decision and that makes his entire 'performance' make sense

I mean he was slightly less sad than the guy that could have put him away at any point just acting like a dipshit for the whole fight and then trying to style like a champion afterward but that's about the extent of it

I dunno, I thought it was kind of funny when he dropped no look hammer fists on Punk.

For a few seconds of a round it would have been funny - like how funny it is every time a diaz stockton slaps someone but for the rest of the fight they're usually punching the poo poo out of someones face trying to end it or taunting someone to get them to stop loving around and fight.

Jackson was making an already bad fight boring as poo poo and then making it go to decision.

Orange Carlisle
Jul 14, 2007

He landed a few clean shots, rocked the poo poo out of an already tired CM Punk then decided to coast and do nothing until a decision

How much money he won at the bookie from a bet placed by someone close to him for him to win by decision is the real question

i always wondered... is this actually illegal or is it just something that gets you banned from the sport? is there actually a law in the books against betting "against" yourself?

quote:

According to Purdum, Mayweather went into the sportsbook at M Resort in Las Vegas around 3:30 p.m. and attempted to place a $400,000 bet that he would win the fight before 9.5 rounds at -200 odds. Since the fight was stopped just more than a minute into the 10th round, Mayweather could have taken home an additional $200,000 in profits from the fight, but he was never able to make the bet.

There were concerns at the sportsbook about whether or not it would be legal for a fighter to bet on anything besides a straight win his own fight, and after Mayweather was still waiting after trying to just bet on a knockout, he left, according to Purdum.

After the fight, Mayweather told ESPN that he left one of his friends with the $400,000 to bet on Mayweather winning in 9.5 rounds, but Mayweather said his friend was only allowed to bet $87,000.

According to ESPN, there are no regulations about a boxer betting on themselves by the Nevada State Athletic Commission or the Nevada Gaming Control.

Apparently not illegal if you bet on just a straight win, not the round or method or you do it or you bet through a friend. Boxing and not MMA, but I don't know if it's different for MMA bets.

Seems there isn't one but I'd imagine betting on yourself is a different law than outright throwing a fight by falling down and losing. Boxing has had it's share of that kinda thing in the past though so I'm sure boxing fans here would have way more info on it than I would.

I will always love the clip of Forrest Griffin saying that fighting Anderson Silva was like a kid trying to beat up his dad and that's the first thing that came to mind when Punk was literally just hanging off of Jackson not knowing what to do next with Jackson just walking around with him before slamming him to the mat

It's definitely quantity over quality in fights right now and nobody I know locally has talked about MMA in months and it bums me out because this poo poo is fun to talk about with friends - but with the cards they're putting on and the shows they're making GBS threads out there just isn't anything to get hyped about. I mean you reading this and I both know that there are great fights out there but to the casual fan nothing exciting has been happening at all. I mean - isn't that exactly what he did? He said he had a friend bet the money for him anyway - but if the fight ended in the 10th he must have bet on the 10th.

There was no point that he was in any danger and I doubt there would be if you ran that fight 100 different times

I agree that fighters in general are underpaid and should make way more money - but what other job can you get hired for that you can refuse to do your very base level duties and not get fired

If he doesn't want to be a fighter then focus full time on real estate or whatever makes him happy but stop fuckin' around with fight contracts

Orange Carlisle
Jul 14, 2007

Alright, fair - but after coming off a loss and backing out of an already scheduled fight he doesn't exactly have the high ground in negotiations. Guys that get what they want usually prove themselves valuable and I don't think Al Iaquinta is going to move the needle one way or the other. He can be replaced, and already has been.

Edit: Again - I too agree that fighters need more money/protections but this one in particular doesn't give a poo poo about fighting and he's made that clear many times. Throw money and support at the ones that actually want to be there and make a career out of it and are genuinely getting shafted and ignored.
