Zerilan posted:No real game dev experience beyond like, rpgmaker projects as a kid, small amount of programming experience in a few languages. Kind of want to try something solo for sake of attempting something creative. Are there any good engines/game dev project that are real easy for an amateur to pick up and make something simple with? Unity might work. It's well documented with tons of tutorials. You can also have a good time just slamming together free stuff off the Asset store while you learn.

This being the first jam we're doing on Itch.io I'm really surprised at the state of the community over there. It's just an accepted thing to drive-by all the game jams and just submit whatever you want to them without looking at what the jam is about at all. Some people get very upset when you remove their games too. So I added some fields to the submission page to be all "No really, don't just submit without reading the rules". Overall though doing this through itch has been really nice, be sure to let us know how the jam was from your end of things. The future incarnation of the Awful Jams site will likely incorporate itch in some way.

Doom Goon posted:Yeah, but not even on Twitter or the upload to YouTube yet? Guess it was a Discord thing only. VOD has been up on Twitch https://www.twitch.tv/videos/300640990. There will NOT be a winter Awful Jam this year. Although we might host someone else's jam during the same time frame. I just don't have the time to organize these jams twice a year anymore.
